  • just waiting for that part that was in Ghetto Gospel.

  • like this if ghetto gospel brought you here

  • This song reminds me of my childhood, listening to my uncle playing all of the great EJ tunes.

These early 70s tunes were classics, words and music match beautifully. Bernie Taupin deserves more credit for writing some of the best lyrics of all time. Thanks for posting.

    Peace

  • ♥ BEAUTIFUL

  • TO: my screechy...I feel the same way! My Great Grandmother was full-blooded Cherokee...but I have the white blood in my veins...it feels like a curse! I've been listening to this song since I was a young girl...I'm 52 now...I love this old song...thankyou for your honesty...PEACE V from your Sister!

  • I sometimes truly feel ashamed to be a white when I see what was and is done to the true NATIVE AMERICANS. It also hurts me to see what was done to the African Americans. I just wish none of it had ever happened but unfortunately it did and is still happening just not to the same degree. This song is beautiful and so is the video. Thank you!

  • SHUT UP AND ENJOY THE MUSIC AHOLES!!!!!

  • MY GHETTO GOSPEL!

  • im here becuz ghetto gospel brought me here...!

  • if Britain won the war of independence, then maybe the natives would still have had their land

  • @Oldzz i know, eminem used aerosmith as well

  • Feather Swag

  • im nitsiitapii translate to' real people.' politcally correct first nation or native american, welcome to our country

  • @jemjoy2007 Nitsiitapii is what language others might recognize? Blackfeet, I believe? We're Akimel Oodham (Authum) means 'River People' or known as Pima, closely related to Thono Oodham, means 'Desert People' or known as Papago in Arizona, USA. We can educate others about Native Americans this way, like why Blackfeet and not Blackfoot, or is it? The average mainstream American knows less about NAs than Europeans like British white boys Elton & Bernie when they wrote this song in the 1970s.

  • 2pac! (L)

  • Thumbs up if you came to this song after listening to 2PAC's "Ghetto Gospel"!!

  • does that guy realise people are only liking his comment because his username is bigwilly8804

  • Listening to this song brings gay emotions to me, gay as in happy, not as in homosexual like Elton.

  • 3:48 Ghetto Gospel sampling.

    0:01-6:45 A great song.

  • thanks to 2pac i know this beautiful song :) ,now i listen 2 this song almost everyday

  • everything around is not invented by europeans. europeans may have improved on said inventions. europeans did not invent the most important tools, ones used for farming, they copied other races tools and technology. but they did improve alot of these inventions and in the end they used these inventions only to manipulate and control the people and destroy our world.

  • @byusfuku1 AC. There i said it.

  • @Choraligame -Some people prove that trash comes in every colour!

  • Comment removed

  • Before they saw fit to abuse the Black Man they took what they wanted from the Red Man...

  • @filmgrabber and why is it so easy to abuse and dominate you people? Maybe because you have developed nothing beyong stoneage technology. Everything around you was invented by Europeans. without "abusive slavery" you would still eat fecal cakes in a mudhut

  • @Choraligame Who said it was easy to dominate black people? Sorry, but that's your opinion

  • 3:44 .. Enough Said

  • this is elton at his best he was a mad man a cross the water

  • this is elton at his best he was a mad man a cross the water

  • " It ain't about black or white cause we're human"

  • "Hit em with a little ghetto gospel."

  • @polopolopolo95 such a good song...this and Ghetto Gospel...

  • these words are deep, only if you really listen will you understand

  • I heard this song growing up but it wasn't until I was older that I really understood the significance of this song. I listened to it again for the first time in a while and I got chills like I was hearing it for the first time.

  • 3:44 - 3:54 and 5:53 - 6:05 for the parts Tupac sampled for Ghetto Gospel

  • @ColorfulHyena for the parts eminem sampled for ghetto gospel....Eminem created ''ghetto gospel'' 9 years after 2pac had died...rip tupac shakur

  • taupin wrote the lyrics before tupac was born.

  • ghetto gospel? thumbs up if youre here for elton

  • What the fuck is "Ghetto Gospel?" i came here becuz i wanted out of the Ghetto....

  • @XBrokenwingsX98 "what the fuck is ghetto gospel?" Really!? WOW

  • 3:29 for tupac fans

  • thumbs up if your here because you like elton john

  • Thumbs Up If You Knew This Song Before Ghetto Gospel.

  • I have been blessed with quite a few Native American Friends in my 32 years here on Earth. My hat is off to all of them. I dedicate this song to all of them from the bottom of my heart!!!!!! What a story Elton John tells in this couple of minutes he calls "Indian Sunset". It is nothing short of brilliance in my opinion!!!!!!1111

  • I cry every time i hear this.

  • One of my all-time FAVORITE tunes ever! Thanks for putting that together

  • 12 people should go to prison

  • I'm here because Indian Sunset brought me here

  • @bigwilly8804 lol right on bruh. dont people just fucking piss you off sometimes

  • @bigwilly8804 lol I thought you were gonna say tupac

  • uhhh im here cause i fucking like elton john

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, lotta' dumbass comments on here. The song's not meant to be literal, yes it sucks (in short) for what happened to the indigenous people of North America (and to a lot of other native tribes worldwide, really), but it was so long ago, let's just focus on getting along in the here and now, okay?

  • @superspongenova 'The song's not meant to be literal' - WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN?

It pretty blatant it's Elton John's singing about the trial and tribulations faced by North America's First Nations.

  • @Lukege15 Uh, no fucking duh, man. I'm talking about a specific and literal event in history, not the overall history. Christ.

  • @superspongenova I like how Americans always say, 'but it was so long ago', does it make you feel better? And yet, when it benefits you, you deplore the past actions of Germans, British, Russians and Japanese at every turn.

Are you that stupid? Fact is the Native Americans are still fucked over. Their religion suppressed, their lands still stolen, the laws and Constition written often with the one goal of disenfranhising them and the majority live in poverty. You don't know these things? Sad.

  • @Lukege15 I have never once in my life "delore[d] the past actions" of any country. I am Choctaw, Chickasaw, Cherokee, AND Cheyenne. My great-great-grandfather was a translator in Oklahoma. You need to shut up and stop trying to bleed out something that DID happen a long time ago. If you want to go out and physically help the people still being subjected to these misfortunes, do it. Stop being a dick on Youtube and learn to focus on getting along on the here and now than guilting innocent people

  • @superspongenova 'guilting innocent people'... Get the fuck out of here.

Innocent people? Did you see who I was arguing with? A white guy, whose comments included,

'im sorry my race was more advanced and was able to overpower natives? gf tomahawks', and,

'i know im a spaz nerd with no life. 35 in my moms basement. and and idiot who doesnt deserve a computer to begin with. but atleast my race won :)'

You're not a member of 4 First Nations (maybe Cherokee, but they let everyone in).

  • @Lukege15 Oh very nice you're badmouthing the very people you're trying to save. Okay. I am genetically descended from members of those tribes. As I am from other ethnicities. And yes those people are ignorant, but so is your method of "enlightening" everyone else. Choose your battles, man, don't you get they're probably just TRYING to piss you off because you react so aggressively? You're not coming off as someone I'd choose to represent a cause.

  • @superspongenova So you basically admitted your not a Native American, but a 'descendant'.

I'm a descendant of Genghis Khan, does that make me Mongolian? As well as Italian because a Roman soldier was my great-great-great* grandfather. See? Drawing conclusions such as that make you look stupid.

  • @Lukege15 -- And so as such, since I am not entirely native American, my right to argue your methods isn't allowed. You are a complete and total idiot. Your heart's in the right place, but, sir, you are a complete and total idiot.

  • @superspongenova Why did you bring up your distant, distant ancestry? You meant it to be an argument in your favor. That makes you an idiot. Not me.

'Oh very nice you're badmouthing the very people you're trying to save' - because I disagree with some ignorant white boy? How pathetic are you?

You've thrown a lot of insults my way, but I've seen nothing substantial from you. You have no reason to reply, you're just raging, and you're argument is basically 'don't get pissed'?

  • @superspongenova If you do happen to be a member of those 4 nations - fucking decide who you want on your side. White supremacists Vs people that are actually educated in the issues of past and present Native Americans.

Shit's still happening to Native Americans, and the fact that you don't know it makes me even more suspicious of your apparent heritage. You're no doubt a white that doesn't know nearly as much as you think.

  • @Lukege15 I am. On both sides of my family. I'm choosing to focus on the here and now and not separating race. Shit's still happening to a /lot/ of people, and it's horrible, but sitting here telling people to choose sides makes you look more like a hick than these supposedly white oppressive folk you're rambling at. I don't need to go through my family's history with you, or prove my nationality. I am human, over all. Again, if you wanna help, go out and do something instead of raging online.

  • SQUIERLUKE81, We the whites of this country dont need to worry about anyonemaking us look bad. We have committed so many horrible acts against natives that we have shown what we are quite well

  • @suzanrhodes You tell him brother!

  • R.I.P. 2Pac i hope someone can do an official remix of ghetto gospel and use more of this song :)

  • my ghetto gosple !!

  • What I don't get with this thread is ...what's wrong with just appreciating a piece of musical poetry from some who was on tthe top of his game?

  • Ghetto Gospel FTW !!

  • @Valoxification This is an Elton John song about Native Americans...

Do yourself a favour and fuck off.

  • @squierluke81 your an idiot. hes using free speech to create song lyrics. this isnt a propaganda song.

  • bummer. until now, i thought that elton john wrote his part on ghetto gospel particullary for that song. but it was allready made alooot off years before :P

  • i don't care who you are.. this is an awesome song!! no need to compare it to anything, except itself. the invading "settlers" did a terrible injustice to native americans and it doesn't matter what color any of them were.

  • 3:43 + 5:53 ghetto gospel!

  • It's a shame this song is associated with that Tupac crap.

  • @Robotdrummerzzk it's a shame when people call music, they don't listen to, crap

  • @vrblitz I did listen to it. And as you gather, it was crap.

  • @Robotdrummerzzk How disgustingly ignorant. Tupac is one of the greatest artists to ever walk this earth. It's sad that people are so ignorant enough to not realize that.

  • @certise Because I have a different opinion? Fuck off.

  • It is a shame this song got niggerized in ghetto gospel. Typical niggers, I knew that the piano part in that song had to have come from a white person

  • @joel053 ur a fucking douche bag. in case u havent noticed, the greatest modern artists of all time have been black Michael Jackson, Chuck Berry, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Tupac Shakur. if u don't like any of those 5 black men just because u were raised by confederate bitches, u sir are an asshole

  • @WumbMasta Tupac LMAO

  • Why do African-Americans always have to be brought up?

This song is all about Native Americans, let's enjoy it for what it is.

All you Americans could learn a lot from this song. What a great many diverse and vibrant nations were on this land before being replaced by a generic culture, Walmart and parking lots

  • @Lukege15 "all you americans?" i'm korean....

  • @WumbMasta Good for you... I guess?

Are you one of those people that live in America but hold on furiously to your immigrant status, and cry 'I'm not American!' at any given chance? WAS I EVEN TALKING TO YOU?

Still, you should respect the natives of the land you're on. Saying, 'Oh, but my parents weren't from here' doesn't give you reason to be ignorant. You're on their land, learn or fuck off to Korea if you don't like it (LOL at you not even knowing if it's called South Korea). Fucking idiot

  • @Lukege15 trolol u sound mad :D and if its there land.. my property deed is a lie D: oh wait. forgot about colonization oh well :)

  • @Sperix1 And you sound like a special needs case, verging on the medically retarded. We all have our weaknesses, I guess.

  • @Lukege15 umad?

  • @Sperix1 uspaz?

  • @Lukege15 trolol im sorry my race was more advanced and was able to overpower natives? gf tomahawks- every race has commited acts of taking over land get the fuck over it. being on youtube bitching on a song people only come to because they like ghetto gospel is making u look even sadder :o and before u say it yes i know im a spaz nerd with no life. 35 in my moms basement. and and idiot who doesnt deserve a computer to begin with. but atleast my race won :)

  • @Sperix1 HAHA! Oh my, you're a failure on so many levels. The idea that you think you're superior at anything...

Your race? I'm white too genius. Why is that rednecks assume if your supportive of another race, you're either that race or a race traitor. It was our disease that allowed you to be a fat, lazy bastard sponging of your mother on stolen land. I feel that if you were faced with an opportunity to be powerful or 'win', you're pea-brain would probably implode. You're an embarrasment.

  • @Sperix1 'yes i know im a spaz nerd with no life. 35 in my moms basement. and and idiot who doesnt deserve a computer to begin with', the first step is acceptance.

Do I really need to waste my time on you? You know you're a fucking waste of space.

If the Native Americans ever wanted to claim their lands back, they wouldn't need weapons. They could just send all you fat fucks an algebra problem or a Charles Darwin book in the post, then just watch as your heads collaspe into themselves.

  • @Sperix1 'yes i know im a spaz nerd with no life. 35 in my moms basement. and and idiot who doesnt deserve a computer to begin with', the first step is acceptance.

  • @Lukege15 yes us fat fucks who made it to the moon first invented computers, won every major war weve been a part of and developed the first nuclear bomb, were dumbasses over here. anyway have fun in your shit country, hopefully your atleast in one of the nice ones who dont bitch endlessly .. oh fuck nvm

  • @Sperix1 You didn't invent computers...

You didn't win every war you were part of...

I'll give you the nuclear bomb. But what's the point? It was concieved from the research of a certain German scientist - Einstein. The creators became depressed, and some committed suicide knowing they brought something like that into the world AND it's never been used, well done!...

Fact is, I know more about the US than you ever will. You're scared of facts-ignorance is bliss, after all. It's also a cage.

  • @Sperix1 actually, it was britain who invented computers

  • @WumbMasta hey jackass, you said MJ twice. Also i wouldnt say those were the "greatest", i would put some other people on that list.

  • @joel053 racist saying n word a lot do ya

  • i dunno why but i think he sounds asian sometimes in this song, but live he sounds normal, but like in ghetto gospel i though first an asian sing it

  • So often we here people actually doing covers . So often they don't stand up . I would love to heare Pearl Jam get Eddie Veder wrap his gnarly tonsils around this and I think it would be tops. . Itsstill a masterpiece. 1st heard it in 1975 .

  • 3 min 44 there starts the song till 4 min. and then at 5 50 till 6 06

  • this is probably one of the greatest songs ever produced. Although it was originally aiming at the native american race, i feel as though it also is now speaking to the european americans. "and now you ask that i should watch the redmans race be slowly crushed" I feel like you can now switch redman to whiteman since all this multiculturism in mcdonalds, dj hero commercials and so fourth in the media is really trying to eliminate the white race... (and not to mention the black population aswel

  • @SodaPopJohnson what the hell are you talking about????? Multic-culturism has nothing to do with imperialism/genocide. You're weird.

  • @SodaPopJohnson You're an idiot.

How can you fucking compare the two?

Most Native Americans have lost their language, way of life, architecture, homes, history -every element of their culture. White (most definetly) and black people have no comparison.

I agree with hihihihi, you're weird.

  • @SodaPopJohnson wow. that is one paragraph stuffed full of bullshit there

  • btw do u ppl reaslise 2pac didnt "make" ghetto gospel..the beat was layed over his lyrics AFTER he died..like many of his songs..

  • Fighting with my weiner is like fighting with my weiner

Even if my weiner is a weiner it is a weiner

  • @Cruelhazard Philosophical shit.

  • @Cruelhazard best comment on here

  • 2PAC,you cared about good songs I see...awesome song by the way,thanks 2PAC!!

  • One of EJ's greatest !!!! His songs of his early years were much more serious/dark than those of later times. Awesome, though!

  • elton john is the man. rest in peace tupac

  • Tupac knew what was good.

  • @poopoos Someone with a brain, 2pac use's Phil collins, Elton john, etc'

So i quite agree with you :)

  • 3:43, 5:53

  • 3:43

  • tupac brought me here

  • Thanks to Ghetto Gospel by Tupac. Because of that song I discovered this one!!

  • Damn, 11 deaf people. This song is good!

  • Thumbs up if you are here because of Ghetto Gospel.

  • @massmozz Of course

  • this is probably one of the greatest songs ever produced. Although it was originally aiming at the native american race, i feel as though it also is now speaking to the european americans. "and now you ask that i should watch the redmans race be slowly crushed" I feel like you can now switch redman to whiteman since all this multiculturism in mcdonalds, dj hero commercials and so fourth in the media is really trying to eliminate the white race... (and not to mention the black population aswel

  • @SodaPopJohnson -- It's a song about the plight of the Indians told from the viewpoint of a fictional man -- don't dig too deeply. It is what it is.

  • @SodaPopJohnson Not really man, this is about wars between the whites and the Indians and how they were losing their land and slowly becoming endangered.

Whites aren't being killed off, and they still make up the majority of the population.

  • @SodaPopJohnson

    dj hero... lolwut

  • I remember hearing this for the first time in the 70's, me and my girlfriend sat speachless and silent for a long time, made a huge impact on me

  • @Guerillaradio Who cares?!?!

  • Eleven people are racist against Native Americans...

  • @Perry064 hah ur funny

  • @Perry064 god that joke sucked

  • So 2pac's version is just a copy-paste?

  • @Soilbreaker kinda

Eminem mixed the two together after tupac died

tupac's original didnt have the elton john part

  • Elton really loves the American West. He really gets into what the Native Americans were as people.

  • thank you. love the visuals

  • nice song but historically inaccurate.

  • @Mafumadora oh u were there?

  • listening to this song and looking at the pictures is heartbreaking

  • i see they put justin bieber ads on a gay singer vid... xD

  • @Dejimon I believe you mean Tupac Shakur.

  • @de7652 tupac wrote it, eminem produced it

  • @de7652 Uhm, no, pretty sure he means Eminem

  • @de7652 ghetto gospel was produced by Eminem a few years after pac died...

    come on.

  • Fighting on the internet is like participating in the Special Olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded.

  • @mjgc8755 Cruel but funny!

  • @mjgc8755 lol you are so right!

  • @mjgc8755 so true....in fact not a truer statement has ever been made

  • @mjgc8755 who 62 humanless piece of skunk liked this comment?

  • @Peron117 I wrote it to quell the fighting that was going on under this video. Lighten up.

  • @mjgc8755 stolen, but still, 69th like MUTHA FUCKAS

  • Comment removed

  • I think this is the best '' Elton John '' - Song ever made ! The Moral is soooo good and fits sooo good with the music, which is BEAUTIFUL all the way from the first Note to the Last note D chord !

  • Magnifique chanson

  • The magic of Bernies writing is his abilty to capture americana from any point of view. Here we see such insight and retrospect into a culture he only experienced through cinema as a child. His ability to transpose to any situation is truly one of the great parts of his writing...Great job on the Vidi here nice representation of his words!

  • A masterpiece, like Tiny Dancer and Levon from the same album. Now Elton has a great new album The Union, with Leon Russell, rightly gets 5 stars in Rolling Stone

  • @mizofan wow..thanks for he heads up bro..been out of touch...and i am one of ejs biggest fans

  • Absolute masterpiece, matched with a beautiful video.

  • This is truly masterful work, absolutely amazing.

  • Love the song, love the sentiment and have for 40 years. But the part about Geronomo is inaccurate. He did not get shot down whlie trying to surrender. He had long surrendered and become an alcoholic. He was found dead in a ditch.

  • @JunkTeeks your account is as inaccurate too

In February 1909, Geronimo was thrown from his horse while riding home, and had to lie in the cold all night before a friend found him extremely ill.[6] He died of pneumonia on February 17, 1909, as a prisoner of the United States at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.[11] On his deathbed, he confessed to his nephew that he regretted his decision to surrender.[6] He was buried at Fort Sill in the Apache Indian Prisoner of War Cemetery.[7]

  • @JunkTeeks Actually, the song isn't inaccurate about Geronimo, it never claims he was shot when surrendering. Only "i heard from passing renegades"; so while it could be taken as an error by Bernie Taupin, it could also be an interesting point on rumour and myth making, distortion of reality in history, or the reliability of renegades!

  • I don't get this. Why did the americans have to try and kill the Indians? The Indians were facinating and amazing. They didn't deserve what they got. If the americans wanted to build a railway line from east to west, why not? But they shouldn't have disturbed the Indians on their way though. They had nothing against the americans, to my knowlage anyway. It wasn't as if they enjoyed the killing. They were people in their own right. But, you can't change history.
