My Dad was on the bridge of the USS Trigger (sub) about 10 miles off the coast of Bermuda in 1962. He watched, what he called, a fight between a whale and a giant squid at a distance he said was a mile for several minutes. He estimated the squid's "arms" were as high as 30 feet in the air. He's a smart guy and not the type to exaggerate or embellish a story. The story came up again at lunch today (12/31/11) hence my Google search. I think is a pretty cool story.
