  • Nice!!!!!

  • Nice work Kid!

  • cant believe this guy died.he was an excellent bassist

  • killer riff

  • thats cool

  • Great job covering one of the best bass players out there and you did it with a four string. Great job

  • Love the improv'd parts, this sounds amazing :)

  • well done dude :)

  • you are the only bass player ive seen on youtube...or anywhere, that plays primus with such skill and feel other than les claypool himself...thank you...RIP Rob

  • This song makes me want to become a boxer just to have this as my Opening song.

  • How did you get that sound!! its amazing

  • nice bass. i've got a Ric 4001 in sunburst, too. but it seems yours is in better shape than mine tho, dude. props on your playing, can't go wrong with Les :)

  • fucking sick dude

  • hahah! my bass player has those same PJs. good man i love this band

  • That is a sweet Ricky. I was born in August of 1974. That guitar could have the same birthday as me! Great playing as well.

  • One of my favourite Primus songs. What you play there is fucking awesome man - very cool clip!!!!!!

  • I LOVE how you SHIT on the hecklers faces! haha. you're a legend dude, and a fucking bad ass player too. much love

  • I've always admired this

felt true sorrow to hear this very talented man has died

I've never seen anyone funk out this much, with true soul happening

RIP rob, may you rock on forever!

I wish I could have met you and your wife, truely XX

  • 1:34

  • the guy in the video is dead? no way. hes so young. r.i.p.

  • awesome, i just love the bass on this song

  • This video convinced me to buy a bass a year and a half ago. inspiration to all but imitator of none! You always played everysong your own way. ZODIAKIRONFIST FOREVER

  • i miss your vids.. you had one of the most distinct rad tones on youtube! R.I.P.

  • R.I.P.? This guy died? :-O

  • Great!..So Solid..:-)

  • @Mariekesone R.I.P.

  • Of all the videos he had made, this one was my favorite, and still is.

    I miss him so much

    RIP Rob

  • What? This guy died? :-O

  • Yes, unfortunately.

  • yea he died in January from a heart attack.

  • standard tuning?

  • Why is your Ric tone better than mine?

  • Not being rude, but why are the headphones necessary?

  • I imagine he was probably not trying to be a dick to those around him. Plus, it is common to record DI for ytube videos. So, headphones are usually preferred. This is true both in a studio, as well as a living room.

  • @BitchinnShoes07 maybe the headphones make him less nervous, hha, i have no other idea than that

  • dude, you just owned that song.

  • Great, great work, my friend! Nice bass, too! All hail the Ricky! Nice pyjama's too... Lol! (:o) \m/

  • Awesome!

    5*****

  • I absolutely LOVE your improv of this song, I've always loved primus, watching you play made me want to jump into your living room and jam with you :-)

  • I'll have to use this video to show some of my idiot friends how "easy" bass is.

    Great job man!

  • Tell your friends that they are idiots. Any instrument can be "easy" or difficult, it depends upon how far you want to push it. Difficulty in playing any piece of music is more contingent upon the material, than that of the instrument itself. This isn't the most difficult song to play theory-wise, but it does involve good use of technique. And, the ability to do swift fills (of which this guy cam up with many of his own). Music isn't about how hard it is, it is about how it makes you feel.

  • Who are you trying to play like, Les Claypool?! Just messing with ya. Good work. Fooling around with the bass myself, my favorite bass line of all time to play is "Laid to Rest" by Lamb of God. Good for a bassist seeking a challenge.

  • you sir are incredible!

  • Fantastic effort mate.

  • Dude in a living room rockin' the Brown Album...badass indeed...good improv.

  • wn seco!!

  • that was well done man

  • Really enjoyed that buddy!

Played totally diferent to Les and still sounded cool.

  • And you are well-known to those on whose videos you comment as a troll. Look at your channel comments...everyone thinks you are an asshole from something nasty you have said to them. What is sadder, someone who improvises his own bass parts or the pathetic loser that insists on shitting on everyone's video he sees? Sadness is in the eye of the beholder, and this beholder finds you truly pathetic.

Now get the fuck of my channel. This place does not have an open-door policy on assholes.

  • right on! don't take any guff from these swine. personally i love the pairing of the rick grit and heavy-handed playing with that very brown sound.

haha now play it on those ivories in the background there. i think that might actually sound pretty rad.

  • @zodiakironfist You tell em man.

  • damn hella good!!

    i fucking love this song!!

  • Very good Job !

Im prefer you playing PRIMUS songs then you teache. try Explain detail per detail.

  • only way this vid would be any better would be if you had a mexican wrestling mask on...or a guy juggling chainsaws in the background

  • God thats badass!!! He just played this song on his solo tour...awesome!!!

  • I first heard this when I was 6 or 7 years old. Sent chills down my spine!

    Fuckin brilliant song!!

  • good job on that one man. Primus rules, whoops, I mean PRIMUS SUCKS. In a good way of course:)

  • get you and vadrum cuse that guy fucking rocks on the drums and you guys make a drum and bass band that would be sick

  • best bass guitar ever! RICKENBACKER!!

  • rickenbacker <3

  • K this might be a lil off subject but i was wounderin if youd ever make ne video's of you coverin TOOL

  • God you've covered so many primus songs, You rule! It'd be cool to see Lacquer head and American life when you got the time.

  • Sweet. Nicely done.

  • amazing! simply awsome. and that bass is beautiful. What kind is it? But amazing job on the cover. really awesome.

  • It's a Rickenbacker 4001 model, manufactured in August of 1974.

  • well... there is a lot to say for style - if you thinkabout it he is adding personal "flare" for effect - to highlight his personal technique that he himself acquired. So.. before you become too critical take a chance to consider what actual playing entails and what in essence makes someone good.

  • this was orginally played on his upright...but i like to play it on ma' bass as well even though its not an upright.

  • Nice work bro!

  • fantastic song. performed with perfection. haha les is the man. nicely done.

  • Perfect, man. Perfect. Do you live in the Bay Area? We should start a band.

  • i totaly agree with you saying that there is only on Les. his one of those rare bass players that come along and acualy has the skill that piss's on any lil person that just plays 2 different riffs in a song.

thats the 1st cover iv ever seen dude. and u nailed it. Primus should always remain an underground band, insteed of becoming corprate sellouts. keep it up dude. your fucking awsome.

  • I love this song so much, thanks, this was so cool to see it played.

  • YOU sir,,, are a bad ass.

  • I tip my hat to ya. It sounded great and I know it ain't easy to try and replicate the sound from Les Claypool, one of the greatest musicians ever to grace the strings of a bass guitar.

  • That's a really awsome rendition of my fave Primus song. That song actually made me turn to boxing as a form of exercise (and knocking people out's fun too). I can't really see, are you playing a 5 string, or just a 4 string? I can't seem to play it on my four string, thats why. Anyway, great job, I love how it sounds!

  • Thank you. And my Rick is a four-string. The best way to play it on a four string is to have no idea that you cannot play it on a four-string. Much like the Coyote doesn't fall unless he looks down first. You end up playing the tune different from the "official" version, but sound-wise, it suffices.

  • the game of fisticuffs has always treated me right!

  • But did anyone know the men who came and took your life that night?

  • No, but he knew the game of fisticuffs!

  • @wachaninja7 dude pay attention to the lyrics. no one knew.

  • Hey great job man, thats some hard shit to do keep it up.

I wish that the fisticuff song was shown here on youtube :(

  • I agree. This is an excellent rendition for a self-titled Les Knockoff.

You are a talent among humankind.

  • LOL...that is a fine compliment, my friend. And considering your handle implies you do opinions for a hobby, I will take that as the highest compliment.

    Rock on!

  • Thanks, I think you are right in more ways than one.

  • nice sounds mother fucking good to me

  • Great song. The bass part reminds me a bit of a funk version of pink floyd's Money bass line.

  • I love your playing ! and your fills are awesome !

  • love the playing, you funk it up on that beaut of an ol' rickenbacher

  • awesome pants

  • I, too, just stumbled across these vids. Just amazing...great job!

  • More great stuff. I'm so glad I stumbled onto your vids. I love the Bass and Primus rocks.

You do it so well and The Brown Album is such a fun album anyway, I'm glad you look like you are having fun too.

    *Bucko subscribes*

  • LES!! Good job man.

That Rick tracks nicely with that tune.

  • That was fucking COOL!

    Great job!

  • man yer too much!

  • Yes!!! Ricks are badass, as are you... FANTASTIC tone and energy... Good Ol` brown album! 5 Stars

  • rickenbaker

  • i picked this song up in like 10 minuts becaus of this vid =]

  • Awesome....that's what the video is for....saves a lot of time picking it out or studying tabletures (which make my eyes cross).

  • Dedicated bass players are few and far between, it seems, since everyone seems to want to play guitar. I respect you, man.

  • Thank you.....I just bought a guitar a year ago, but I have always been and always will be a bass player first and foremost. It all started with liking Gene Simmons the most in Kiss and developed later into a severe Steve Harris fetish.

  • Sick playing man

    Primus Rocks!

  • dude ur awesome! any advice for a beggining bass player?

  • Practice every day, play music that you love, and pay more attention to the beats than you do the riffs. Oh, and never be afraid to express yourself, despite the critics.

Thanks for dropping a line and rock on!!

    Good luck.

  • did u like take lessons or what cuz im getting a bass this christmas and i wanna b good like u

  • Nope...never took a lesson. Mostly because I never had the money. I just listened to my music a LOT and frankly, I didn't have much of a social life.

    Thanks for dropping by!

  • I love the brown album.... all the tunes are great

  • Quality mate. Real and Gifted. Amen.

  • ORALE!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

    PRIMUS SUCKS!!! ::wink wink::

  • Awesome Vid

    tight as hell

  • what do you use to record your audio

  • A USB guitar recorder by M-Audio and a Digitech BP80 plugged directly into my computer.

  • The thing I love about Zodiak's videos is that it's almost as if he gets up out of bed and says "alright, let's whip the rick out and make another YouTube smash hit"

  • Wow. Thanks a ton! To be honest, you aren't that far off from the truth. I usually record first thing on Sat or Sun morning, but I have no illusions about youtube hits. That stuff is for such classics as "Chocolate Rain", not for cheesebags like me.

  • not a smash hit? I could have sworn every one of your videos has 4 out of 5 or 5 out of 5 stars, with multiple thousands of views! Not to mention you're and inspiration for bass players like myself. I can afford no higher sign of respect Zodiak, ;)keep rockin'.

ps. God I love that bass, but from the sound of them both I can tell why you use the schecter for your primus covers.

  • I think that part where you're playing F then a dead note and then popping its octave twice is wrong. I'm not 100% sure, but I think it is just the verse moved up to F. Great Job though.

  • Could be. I'm not really that stringent when it comes to replicating exactly what you hear on the album. That's what happens when you play by ear.

  • sounds almost entwistle-like when you play finger style. cool. 5/5!

  • Nice Job! I've been tryin to learn primus and its not easy!

  • your videos are awesome.

  • Wow, I've searched all over youtube for good Primus covers, but yours are the only ones that come close to the original sound; and yours are almost perfect! Bravo!

  • you have alot of really nice things

  • not sure about those pants dude.

  • very nice man keep it up

  • Wow man i love ur bass. The sound the look n everything. Don't like it much for slapping coz of the sound but someday i'll have a Rick for sure :) Keep it up mate!

  • primus, a band for bass players and only bass players

  • Theyre guitarist is actually very good as well.

  • Dude, what is your problem? It's completely unnecessary for you go around to every video with a bass playing anything but roots and decry it as terrible.

  • Uhh, drummers too man, hate to break it to you. Tim is a god amoung men, easily top five for rock. And Brain, I think, has the right attitude. Also, I am with goldmemeber, the segment after the silence on Coattails of a Deadman is one of the cooler guitar pieces I have heard (although it may, in reality, be very easy, I think he uses some sort of effect pedal w/e.)

  • Brain was the drummer. He was never the guitarist. Larry LaLonde has been the guitarist since 1989. Brain was the drummer from 1997-2002.

  • thats who i mixed it up with ty man

  • dude im not completely sure but brain was their guitar player for a while not drummer

  • lol dude. brain was the drummer, check on wikipedia. there only guitar players, were todd huth, and now currently its ler (larry lalonde).

  • wonderful Bass, very good work!

  • Good job mate.

    How you recommend the Rick?

  • It's a wonderful instrument. Easy to play, great sound with a pick or with finger-style. Not so good on slap, though. Lastly, mine weighs quite a bit. Newer Ricks weigh less.

  • good job

  • Damn that was pretty tight. Is it possible to play that on acoustic? I just started learning a couple months ago but I'd like to learn that someday :p

  • I see no reason why this cannot be played on an acoustic (bass).

  • 10/10 rock on.

  • no vocals yet? haha

    5/5- great playing

  • hey,i wonder what kinda thing there is usualy in this bass,a thing over the strings..

  • nice job! :) MOAR xD

  • dude... teach me

  • great playing!

  • All this song is a nother way of playing Duchess if you can play it then you should be able to play this one to :)

  • You're right. If one can play Duchess, one can play it my way, too. That's what is so great about this tune...anyone can play it and there is plenty of room for one's own style. Primus is great that way.

  • davvero bravissimo! complimenti!

  • I think you should take Les Claypools place in Primus :P

  • Hey, now! :P

  • You have no idea how hard it was for me to hit the "Approve" button, Pook.

But it was a nice compliment to a chaotic slammer like me :)

  • another one already?? I only had time to upload one! Very nice rendition as always, man. =).

  • You rocked that one, baby!!

  • Thank ya, my darlin'
