Oh, how worthless the summons in FF12 were. Excellent (and highly underrated) game, but the summons were pointless except to open the door to Ghiruvegan.

The challenge to beat them was always fun, but such a waste to use.

I think it's mainly because they replace two members instead of one. It probably would have been better if they just replaced the summoner, not 2 whole party members with better DPS.

The mana isn't a problem since you can siphon most of it back from them once they are summoned.

I somewhat dislike Belias's and Hashmal's Deathblows because they're too similar - both involve some kind of attack hitting the ground, causing earth and flames to rise up and engulf the opponent. Belias should have at least thrown that huge fireball into the ground to blow up the opponents (since he did little else with it), and Hashmal's attack animation should have had less flame and more boulders throughout. The other Espers' Deathblows generally emphasize their elements more than those two.

i found that by summoning a lvl1 esper(1 mist cartidge) you can syphon 2-3mp bars back. it was so handy for me fighting yiazmat.

It basically means, even if they are weak as hell and they use one to three mist charges, you can get your net cost back from them by siphoning. Great stuff. Just make sure they last long enough for you to do that. (Belias, Mateus and Addramelech don't last very long, Zalera has the best staying power.)

No, Shemhazai actually has the strongest deathblow. If you build it up (her deathblow= total damage done by soul purge) it can deal 99999 damge while ignoring defenses. Thats even higher than Zodiark.

Her soul purge is dealing a random amount of damage every strike. What you should keep in mind is that if you stop her from using her deathblow and simply just call her off, you can prolong her "unloading". As she keeps attacking, her deathblow will keep getting stronger and stronger until you finally let her use it. If you stocked her damage high enough, she could easily deal more damage than Zodiark and its the same on all targeted units. A time investment can pay off for a strong attack.
