  • She shore wuz purdy.

  • A wonderfully romantic song sung beautifully by Patti Page. The meaning of the two roses will always stay with me. Nothing more sweet than to give the simple gift of a red and white rose to a sweetheart.

  • The Movie was just Morbid ! and so is this song.

  • @franklindavid Frankie, it's just a movie....... get over it.

  • I love this song..I was born the year this came out.....the movie has been a favorite of mine ever since I saw it when i was in my teens..

  • Just beautiful and so romantic .

  • Hush, hush, sweet harlot.

  • i love this song. this is one of my favorite movies and this version is beautiful

  • My name is Charlotte and when I was little my whole family stayed at my Grandparents house on every Christmas Eve and my Grandma sang this to me when I went to bed :) all my cousins and siblings were so jealous that there wasn't a song about them! Ah, the memories...

  • @LittleMissBoogie awww that's so sweet!

  • My name is Charlotte, therefore i have to Hush.

  • this was my chilfdhood listening to this. I loved the song never ever did I ever think, I would one day.think of this as a sweet part of my past. I just cannot believe how time just got away from me.

  • I am 65 years of age now. I saw this movie at the age of 18. The movie and Patti Page version of this song still tugs at my heart. I am not sure if it is the plight of Charlotte that saddens or the fact that my youth slipped away so quickly.

  • Absolutely great. Why music like this can't be produced today is beyond me, except possibly we didn't do a good enough job raising our children to enjoy the same simple pleasures that we grew up with.

  • @RXBA3U5 i'm 14 and my cousin is 6. we both love this kind of music. we sing songs of Kay Starr and Patti Page to our grandma. songs of this genre are so beautiful :)

  • @ThisIsJoans Very glad to hear this, thanks!

  • I first heard this song while in viet nam. a sargent friend of mine recieved it from his wife. as we sat there listening he began to crie. I don't know if he made it home or not. It will always bare a sadness when I hear it. thanks for posting.

  • Patti Page...The Singin' Rage......What a sensuous and lovely voice....What a beautiful love song

  • She's all country, as wonderful as Patsy!

  • Lady Gaga should learn from Patti Paige.

  • This is the version - her voice is so smooth and rich.

  • a beautiful arrangement on such a sad song.......thx for uploading....

  • I think of this movie and song every time I go into the mansion and think of patti whom I met years ago and always bette davis

  • ...probably the best female American vocalist who ever recorded a song!

  • I agree that this is probably the best version ever recorded. However it's disappointing that Patti mis-pronounced "Charlotte". For some reason she pronounced it as "Charlette" instead of pronouncing it as "Charlotte" as Al Martino and others correctly pronounced the name. That slight difference could easily elevated Patti Page's version from nearly perfect to perfect. Still, it's most likely one of the most beautiful love songs ever recorded by any artist.

  • @roscodawg Wow, your hearing is ultrafinely discerning . . . to most of the rest of us, the short "o" vowel in the second, unstressed syllable of "Charlotte" is (like most vowels in unstressed syllables) is a schwa.

  • @JudgeJulieLit

Not really, Judge Julie. It's easily very apparent without ultrafine hearing to notice the difference in the way "Charlotte" is sung if you listen to the Patti Page version and then listen to the Al Martino version. Al Martino pronounced "Charlotte" as the name was spoken and pronounced when addressing the character in the movie. Patti, for unknown reasons pronounced the name differently than the way it was in the movie. Minor quibble, but noticable. Still a beautiful song.

  • @roscodawg I haven't heard the Al Martino version (or any but Patti Page's), nor seen the film "Hush . . . Charlotte." But in near future will, to hear their pronunciation of the name Charlotte. Patti's pronunciation is that generally of the Anglicized "Charlotte" as I'd always heard it, as in Charlotte Bronte. I suppose the original French accented the second syllable, as in the Latinate "Carlotta." And if the film setting is US South, apparently that region (or the film) said it uniquely.

  • top klassiker spitze.......

    mfg c.s.a.-kavallerie

  • Miss Patti Page what a voice Her version is the greatest of all time

  • Gorgeous, simply gorgeous. Beautifully sung and orchestrated. And yes, it is better than the version in the film, which is also good, but this one will always be the definitive version.

  • Here is an example of a woman in popular music who would never sell her music using enticing images of sex, unlike Lady Gaga. Lady Gaga must learn from Patti Page.

  • @sheltv100 ain't it the truth. Lady Gag Gag sells a sideshow. This was when music sold "class" and honest talent.

  • @1911HeadBanger Right.

  • @1911HeadBanger You are SO right.....I'm 54 and I love music like this

  • LOVE IT...Better then Al's version, I only LIKE Al's.

  • i'm gonna be sick...

  • Patti Page the Singing Rage

  • you ran to meet your lover, chop, chop/ now everyone understands/ just why you ran to meet your love, chop, chop/ to chop off his head and hand!

chop, chop, sweet charlotte/ chop, chop, 'til he's dead/ chop, chop, sweet charlotte/ chop off his hand and head!

  • @WikeddTung That violent satire can only be funny if a woman is retaliating against the man who raped her.

  • @sheltv100 or in a bette davis film. you need to dial it down a few notches and relax

  • @WikeddTung Yes I understand. I think it's funny.

  • This reminds me of warm, quiet summer nights. One of the Most Lovely Tunes EVER written. Thanks for the Post.

  • We have a newborn baby daughter named Charlotte. This has just become her lullaby. =)

  • i'll love you til i die patti.

  • What can I say, the absolutely best version by such a beautiful singer.

  • Hands down, this is one of the most sublime and beautiful tunes ever done.Makes me think of 1965...........Superb Performance..........They will still be playing this decades from now when all of the offal that is touted as music today will be on the discount rack or the landfill where it belongs........Gorgeous and sensuous voice !!!!!!!!

  • I love this song and the vid with Bette Davis!!!

  • @gfks11 I saw the movie and like the song. In fact I bought

an album by Patti that "Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte" is on.

  • The last picture of Patty Paige is a beautiful picture, so beautiful that even young guys still finds her attractive.

  • I've seen the movie just yesterday night...I cry every time I listen to this tune. But now with this version in my ears I'm crying more and more...

  • I'm 57 year old male...I cry too! don't tell anyone! ...It's just a haunting song that can make you feel that way!

  • Great Classic

  • This is just so sublime. Songs & singers like these will be enjoyed for ages to come. Thanks for posting this. There's a lovely song by Patti Page, "Go on home, you don't belong here with me" which is really awesome. Can anyone upload it?
