~why NO pauses between the sentences ??? it is as if you do not allow people to digest what really is said with an skeptical mind, by talking so fast and without pauses it like RAMMING into your system bypassing the other part of your brain. this is the first video of yours ive watched, ive seen allot more of yours now. i really like your videos :P. in this one my first thought on seeing it was the character molly millions from the novel neuromancer, not calling you female, not calling you a girl. but the combination of lipstick, mirrord lenses and your hair is just how i imagine her. sorry if i offend you
Transhumanism, like any good idea, will likely be a rocky long road ahead. I believe it is one of, if not the best idea ever. Inevitably, all "humans" would be absorbed into the dominating population of technologically and biologically enhanced and transcended beings that we will become via technological paradigm shifting revolutions. Just think of how the middle east would change over night if some one "infected" their water supply with intelligence enhancing nano bots.
@ThoseGamerguyz Well a little... But mostly I think it's because death comes in many different forms and never can it truely end. And the end of the normal death that I've come to know and understand is a very scary thought to me.
why will we need to live for ever or 1000 years??? there is no life without death there is no light without dark and there is no love without hate ... we (plants animals fungi bacteria ALL OF US!) have to die so our athoms could be used for something or someone else lets not be so self centered!
@unsolocuerno no sorry goofy fuck! dude your atoms are used in other things already check it in a text book our atoms are completely replaced every 7years.
first, i am having a hard time formulating a cogent reply of the subject matter due to my sudden internal confusion about my own heterosexual proclivities. (your brain is attractive too, but why so serious all the time?) my concerns on the subject are limited only to human history with use of technology. while nuclear power could have been used exclusively for benevolent purposes, it was sadly used for mass destruction as well. in short, would you like a copy of your mind in my personal matrix?
I think about these things a lot for me sci-fi writing, and indeed, I have so far a conflict where certain religious people claim that literal 'transhumans' are pulling people away from faith by tempting them like the snake tempted Eve "Ye shall become as Gods"! LOL! If only I could think of a good ending....
wait what, christians believe that they have to live a whole other life after death. Im pretty sure i was baptised christian or something, great now i gotta go kill myself. stupid afterlife, theres not enough things to do until the end of time. lol jk id wanna live as a transhumanist 4ever i dont get whats so bad about it. im sure you all use some form of technology. That technology was created by scientists who were probably transhumanists. So without progression there is no technology.
I have migraines myself, and I believe that everyone should experience at least one severe and nauseating migraine in their lives. To many people love to dismiss my pain as "a little headache" and say it's no excuse to not do anything. The experience of a migraine gives understanding and perspective to what it is. And, thus, makes a person more compassionate to others' pain, and more likely to avoid pain, for himself or for others. That can probably apply to other things too.
I don't believe it. The elite who are working on this want everybody to conform to it for the benefit of all mankind? As if the elite really want to be equals with the rest of us pukes. BS, its all lies. There is an evil underline to all this. Im so glad I have Jesus and already knew of this type of thing before I ever heard about it.
So only the wealthy or those with wealthy sponsors will be our guineapigs. After a few years/decades/scores, it will be affordable to some of the rest of us.
I forgot the exact wording, but I once heard something like, "If you learned that you had six months more to live, what would you do differently in that time? So, what's stopping you now?"
It's funny to see how people react to something they don't understand. Transhumanism is something that scares some people because they can not comprehend that this can and will be achieved. As far as I'm conceded I applaud it and welcome it. For all those against it you can go a head and die and go to heaven I would much rather stay here.
@Vjgoth As a Transhumanist, the vast majority of my arguments end up being against the so-called "yuck factor" that you're pointing out. Then there are people like Leon Kass that argue that this yuck factor has some validity to it (even if it isn't a solid moral argument), which only lends more power to such a fear-driven response.
It's pretty absurd that people would attempt to control others through legislation because of a highly-subjective distaste in the topic.
When people argue against inequality they haven't really made a distinction between different types of inequality. Inequality in Nazi Germany (Godwin's Law!) between Jews and non-Jews was clearly at the Jews' expense; but is technological inequality at anyone's expense?
If I get offended by a certain person's opinion it is a breach of rights to censor them; but if I am distressed by the possible exponential wealth of others is it a breach of rights to veto such advances?
Of course, out of sight out of mind. We forget about the program/server the transhumans are "living" in. All the poor mortals go on killing themselves and no one is there to man the power switch! There you have it your eternal life has become eternal man made hell.
@shawndonald78 well i dont know about you but i like living, and if i could go on doing it for the next couple hundred, maybe even couple thousand years that would be great. idk what planet you are living on but id rather not kill myself because i grow old
We should have the transhumans commit to machine bodies, then blast them to the far flung reaches of the universe! Or live on Mars that solves the problem of a caste system developing. They could transform Mars into a habitable planet and after years of work, download them into whatever utopian program they desire. That should solve over crowding. After all you don't really care what shape or form you exist in. I figure by this point we will have found an enegy system that's nearly everlasting.
I was going to comment on this, but I don't know where to begin. It's like trying to enumerate the improvements one might make to the Star Wars prequels, the inconsistencies and weak analogies are so much and so interconnected that you would almost need to argumentatively address the entire person to even form an adequate response representative of one's view. I bow out and let all here wallow in their self importance and naivete. Oh, and before anybody attacks me for this, no, I'm not Christian
Atheists themselves used to be very comfortable in maintaining that the universe is eternal and uncaused. The problem is that they can no longer hold that position because modern evidence that the universe started with the Big Bang. So they can't legitimately object when I make the same claim about God-he is eternal and he is uncaused
okay, last comment, i think, haha: do you think it possible that the conscious and manual self-direction of the functions of intelligence may (though you certainly seem to think it would accelerate our intelligence) actually hinder our intelligence overall by manipulating evolution? OR, would that capability actually be advisable? maybe it would be a new twist on the evolutionary process? then again, does controlling mechanisms in the way you suggest lead to faulty and inhibiting tinkering?
also, it seems to me that our conceptual construct of time is a vitally important aspect of hour human make-up, and without it i don't see us being very 'human' anymore. is that okay with you, if you agree with that at all? and if you don't agree with it, please tell me why. furthermore, the idea of eternity in a mass' pattern conflicts with the reality that all systems are in the process of failing: perpetual degeneration. this plays such an important role in what we are!
and about finding meaning through life: i am an absurdist, and view meaning in this light: it is something not innate in life, but created by life through interaction and language. i wonder if our interaction will lose significance without the empathic interaction of mortality in relation to how we live. certainly, there is a vast wealth of interactions to have, but even with a supposedly unlimited source, will we care enough to interact in the face of eternity?
zj, i'm curious as to what you'll think of this: our connections in relationships, society, and the world in general are empathic; we have the capacity to understand and relate because of hardships. mortality is, one might say, the kingly hardship. what do you think the empathic losses would be? also, a defining concept: everything we are is defined by what we are not... what becomes of life without death? very broad questions, i know, but i'd love to hear your thoughts.
Question,Why the fuck would anybody wan't to live longer then what they're destine to do in this world?i'm not trying to see this world if and when i get passed 85 and if i happen to die at at a younger age so be it..that is life, the great thing about being human..go with the flow and live "FREE",i'm not going to be like damn i'm almost dead i need a recharge,no i'll just go..oh my brain has wi-fi and you humans still use laptops,it's not REAL..it's mind control!
aka: if you idiots cause problem because we come up with stuff we want to use it's on your heads not ours. We don't care if you're stupid and kill yourselves, cause wars, start fights, and destroy. We're smart enough to survive your worst and not only survive... thrive. So, keep hating and we'll keep not caring.
I've always been an advocate for living better over living longer, we're slowly extending the human life span however more than half our time spent here nowadays is spent under medical care and thus draining our resources.
If we worked towards maintaining the same level of health in our 20's well into our 50's our productivity would remain and we wouldn't spend as much time being a drain on the system.
Well if we live forever, why reproduce? I mean we can still have sex, but whats the point of reproduction in such a time? :I Hmmm, maybe we'll just move past that. Im sure many will see no point in reproduction when/if we start to live forever.
@AnterosOfTheNyboriag Well obviously people would still like to have children you know, thats just a normal thing. I think that we will have the ability to cope with things like that in years to come, I mean we will no longer need to eat food in 2050 because we will be computer generated you know, you choose your own evolution, you do not need food.
@AnterosOfTheNyboriag No, thats a pretty ridiculous thing to say in my opinion. "We should all die so or children can say that we were their fathers and be proud of that" If you honoustly believe that, thats your opinion. You cannot force your opinion on what the meaning of life is with anybody elses.
@alexnzxVersion2 What I was trying to say was, why have kids if we live forever? creating more beings doesnt do anything, we would no longer have to worry about the continuation of the species. It seems like continuing to populate would directly be going against our well being, Im not saying there should be laws for it Im just saying, from a interlectal sense, why have kids? Now that were immortal why not switch our focus to something else?
@AnterosOfTheNyboriag precisely. We could focus on other things such as exploring other galaxies and discovering other species, we could build other civilizations so that we can continue to exist even after our sun is gone. the possibilites are endless.
@AnterosOfTheNyboriag Sorry if you find me offensive but what you said is ridiculous. People have kids because they want to experience what it is like to be a mother or father and want the chance to raise a kid. Saying we should not reproduce because there is no need is kind of arrogant. We reproduce to give other people a chance in this world, imagine if you were never born at all.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You talk like technology is balanced and neutral... it is NOT! The"good" technology is kept secret, while you believe that technology that exist is in the hands of neutral people... How fucking delusional are you?
You're so much into your own pathetic religion of post-humanism and post-gendrism, ie neo-gnosticism, you're like ANY EXTREMIST RELIGIOUS insane people, believing that your so-called neo-feudal socialist "progressive" collectivist transhuman fascist utopia is THE way.
@FringeReality I didn't actually say anything like that. Stop mistaking your own misapprehensions for my positions. I'm not into your conspiracy theory garbage.
You BELIEVE "theories"... from a "great post-human world" to over population.
You believe that your own little indoctrinated concepts and "knowledge" of the world makes a valid theory... Truth is the truth, whether you know it or not, whether you like it or not, whether you believe it or not. Your own education (indoctrination), and your malthusian world view doesn't make a truth. It's ONLY an opinion based on yourself.
@FringeReality he doesnt assume its "balanced" at all he states there are complications and it is natural. I wouldnt go as far as to say he is an extremist either. He is merely making his beliefs public as any other person and/or religion does, and defends what he believes as any other person does. The "good" technology isnt necessarily kept secret it is just not developed enough to be released to the public as a failsafe device and or idea. When it is time you'll know all you'll need to know.
About the life span limited or unlimited , it should be very easy to solve . As long as you don't have childrens ( both partners involve ) you could live forever , but when you have this sexual reproduction it made in you a biological countdown that would end your life in a time of 50 years ( or enough to raise properly your childrens and a little more ) .
This solve over population in the world and let the choise to the people.
@DraskyVanderhoff Actually if we are talking about an "eclipse phase" vision of transhumanism, with immortality being granted by resleeving ones mind in a new body, that would kind of indicate that science was advanced enough for ones mental engrams to be slotted into a computer matrix, which would seriously cut down on over population. Also by that point we will have got off planet.
@matthewlane Any way of transmission makes a copy of you , not yourself in another format , so you die and thats all. There would be a copy of you that wont be you , just another instance of yourself.
Open your eyes that shit that they are trying to sell us is just for convince us to do a massive suicide. Nothing more , thats the plan.
@DraskyVanderhoff um... how would it be any different. Every single thought would be identical to my own... It would be like a cut and stick on a computer. Your not destroying those file fragments you are moving them to a new location one fragment at a time. Though it would be possible to fork yourself so there were multiples of you, though they would all become different from you over time, as it would have unique experiences (chain of continiuty and all that).
@matthewlane You just clearly said that is wrong : Forking! . When you fork a program you made a new instance of itself! A NEW ONE. You are just a instance of yourself , not yourself. "You" are a abstract concept and the you that you are is just a instance. Like in a program the code is runing as one instance (or process) , but you can run many instance of it and they are all different and independent.
Man please , is soo simple to see it... if you copy yourself no matter what is not you.
@DraskyVanderhoff forking is just the name of the proccess in EP (Eclipse Phase). If you copy your self & we assume for a second a perfect mental replication system, at the very second of creation how is he not you. You both have the same reasoning pattern & the same data. Heck sleeve him into a perfect clone body & there would be no way to tell the difference between the original & an alpha level fork (an Alpha level fork is a fork that has not been mentally modified for a specific purpose)?
@matthewlane I agree that the body is hardware but you clearly said that it would be a perfect CLONE body and that said clearly that is not Me , I'll died and that instance of Me would live forever , but not myself! Is like you said " I want to have a "you" in my planet where i'm gonna live and playing golf with you all day :)" Them The earth is blowed up with me there and you just don't care because there is a me with you playing golf.
To defeat the you just need Synthetic Genomics! :)
But how would it not be you. It would still be everything that made up you & if you transferred a perfect copy into the body, then for all intents and purposes it is you. Nothings been dstroyed, its just been transferred. Now if it was a copy, it would still be you, it would become less like you over time as you both experiecned different input, but it would still fundamentally be you.
@matthewlane Man... you don't understand the concept of copy and instance. Please read the linux kernel process called fork for C library if you are software developer , if not i can't explain this in any other way.
You have to believe what i said because is a total fact , you are a instance of yourself executed in this reality and in your body. There is no way to copy a instance because a instance is running on a hardware and it's not transferable ( only copyable and thats not transference ).
@DraskyVanderhoff Yeah Ive never understood why ppl would be content duplicating themselves. For me that would just be an insult to everything I was to say a copy is a good enough substitute for me. The entire purpose of living is to experience life. Duplicating yourself wont allow you to continue experiencing life, or anything, it would just allow someone like you to experience it in your place and that hardly any comfort
@1982mockingbird1982 Okay if you have a word file & you copy that file on to a thumb drive, how is that word file inferior to the word file you already have? The only inferiority is in the physical storage drives capabilities. Now swap out the two identical word files. How is the word file you just called inferior any different to the original it was just copied from? If the information in the brain is just data, then there is no difference between the original data & the copy.
@matthewlane A file and a sentient individual are two very different things. A file isnt a sentient entity and therefore a suitable subsititue only needs to contain ideintical data with minimal corruption. However in transhumanism, a brain duplicate is usually intended to extend the human experience of its predesesor helping them achieve a kind of immortality. So even tho neither brains would be inferior, and may be the 'same' in scientific terms, the main purpose still wouldnt be achieved
@1982mockingbird1982 Yes, but the general supposition of Transhumanism is that the mind is just data we haven't figured out how to record or transfer yet. So no a file and persons mind are not the same... yet. But suppose for a second the technology did exist, in what way would the individual who had his cognitive patterns transfered from one vessel to another, not be the same person?
@matthewlane This has been very enlightening and has made me think. I cant be sure its the same person tho. What if you only copied the the data and stored it on a different medium with the human still alive and well. Where would the original person be? In 2 seperate locations having 2 seperate and very different sets of expieriences? Also could the artificial mind even be fully sentient(and I think anythings possible), or would it just be able to simulate the original person.
@1982mockingbird1982 To continue on the above theory, if you transfer that data directly from one storage device to another, directly how is the file not the same data?
@1982mockingbird1982 I'm really happy to see that someone understand my point :) . What Transhumanist really should focus on is Bioinformatics , Genomics and Systems Biology.
We need to improve ourself and also we can live forever if we use our genetic technology and stop the pollution in this world because we could make everything organic ( even computers , yeah it can be done but the only problem to solve is the performance ( is not too bad but compare with the silicon based one it sucks ) ).
@matthewlane Depends on what you mean by 'you'. I dont want to die bcoz I want to continue experiencing. Duplicating myself wont transfer my phyche somewhere else, it would just(at best), create another phyche similair to mine. But that wont allow me to continue experiencing life, it would just allow someone who is apparently just like me to begin experiencing. I would see no benefit to myself.
@1982mockingbird1982 Psyche is not a real thing, its an umbrella term that refers to the mind. Mind is what brain does & if mind is just data, then transferring data from one storage device to another is not making a copy. Its a direct transfer. So there is literally no difference between the data in its original location & data in the new location. Its exactly the same data.

@matthewlane About the cell refreshing in our bodies: That's true but the point of it is that is gradual, and because the cells first duplicate and them they are connected to the rest of the old cell and finally the original cell die , that means that your "data" is in a continuum with your whole body , if your whole died and refresh in a instant , you died too and a new person takes place.
It's the same with this uploading to a net , there is no continuum because is a external structure.
@DraskyVanderhoff The transferring of your mental program from your body to a new body would also be gradual... It would just be gradual in computer time, not in biological time (so yeah, it might take as much as an hour). It would still be a continiuum from the point of view of the person who resleeved. From there point of view they just fell asleep an woke up in a new body. Thats one of the base concept of Transhumanism: The body is purely hardware that you can update.
@matthewlane Thats one of the main goals of transhumanism: The eventual conquering of death. After all, if everything you think is backed up perfectly in a cortical stack, death becomes a transitive thing. Its no different then backing up your entire computer. Sure of you plug the data into a new computer there may be a small transition period (which EP predicts), but you are indistinguishable from the original data. In the end, thats all a human mind is: Data, we haven't learnt to copy yet.
@TharosTheDragon i personally am not talking about fixing any thing, i just want to do it. i liekd the idea of experiencing it. if you dont want to thats your life. let me be who i want to be.
you are a complete idiot. It is not about "hiding" from the future and technology. I am not a Luddite. It is about enslavement and control. It's amazing given your beliefs on religion and sexuality that in this respect you sound like a complete Nazi propagandist.
The world is not overpopulated. I would recommend a great site to prove this. overpopulationisamyth. com
It is also because of unnecessary multiplicity (example: iphones vs blackberries, same thing, different companies) caused by our economic systems need to keep up cyclical consumption along with the problems of our profit based system wanting to create more & more products regardless of the environmental costs.
Oh no. Transhumanism sounds quite noble, if a bit naive. No, scratch that, very naive.
If such advances were to be made, they would be kept to only a select few/group. Humanity is, as a whole, a horrid monster. They will never settle for everybody to enjoy the same rights or commodities. Having everybody reach such a status quo is impossible. And changing people's behavior so they are all a-ok with it? Those are not humans. Those would be robots, or something even lower.
@ShadowAimai It used to be human nature to have slaves, I am sure people used that argument also. And sorry, i do not go by the name humanity, i am an individual and to not like to be judged in a group. It would be for a select group at first moron because of the cost, like cellphones and computers were and now look at how cheap they are, everyone can have one now in america. And if you do not think your thoughts and behaviors have not been changed, you do not understand anything.
"Used to"? Slavery is alive and well throughout the world, going under different names. Don't kid yourself.
And here is a question for you: Why would the elite allow the lower classes access to enhancing technology? Your idea of an ideal world will not happen unless some sort of messiah comes to magically fix this wretched lot, which, of course, will not happen.
Enjoy your life while you can, transient ape. Don't wait for miracles.
@ShadowAimai Good point, but most of the modern world has come to the same that slavery is wrong. It is only under developed places that accept it. Why would they allow such technology, well, for one if they don't then the services will fail and yes it would be a service and they need money. So if you got the cash, come and get it. I am not going to wait,I am going to work for a dream, something that is logically possible and needs to be tested. Life can be extended and flesh is not sacred.
@ShadowAimai Remember, we did not get a laptop first, we got faulty computers that took up rooms. Everything we make advance, but if we do not take the first risk then we will accomplish nothing. Stop accepting stupid dogmas about death and life from primitive men, and be open minded to the idea that maybe we can overcome and improve on it. Stop assuming that the world is cold and cruel and have some faith in humanity.
Improve life, that's a given. Overcome death, impossible. Make humanity work together and live in harmony, you would sooner be able to raise the dead.
Cold truth is not an "stupid dogma", it is harsh reality. The Triumph of Death by Pieter Bruegel the Elder should open your eyes. Nothing has changed, and nothing ever will.
The world is not cold and cruel, Jace. It is indifferent. Wheter you live or die will make no difference. It goes the same for everyone.
@ShadowAimai It is a dogma, because it is an absolute you know that could be overcome or proven wrong, if not you are not open minded. I do believe people said the same thing about flying, it is impossible to primitive people right? Your view is more of a nihilism viewpoint. I am a dreamer and one that is willing to work for a goal. I might fail and it could be funny, but in the end I am doing something that is better than saying 'Nothing has changed, and nothing ever will.' and giving in.
@ShadowAimai Well, you're wrong. I can settle for having everybody enjoy the same rights as everybody else! And if there's one, there's probably more! Also, if changing peoples behavior is the only way to accomplish it, then fuck, do it. We can't be picky.
@jacewolf301 Search the movie The Age of Transitions on YouTube and watch it! It pretty much sums up the dangers and origins of transhumanism (which are of course eugenics which was based on social darwinism)
Humanism/TransHumanism is just another Utopian ideology caught up in the myth of social progress, Humanism is just an extension of Christian thought, actually Millenarianism to be exact. The myth of human progress was the idea driving some of the 20th Century's worst regimes to commit barbarism and genocide.
all the religious people will refuse this transhumanisn, and as the transhumanists become cyborgs, or computers, and then merge their minds with the fabric of of the universe and leave earth or whatever, the humans left will evolve and realise that we were right.
Oh boy. Those are some strong godhood delusions right there. Maybe you would like to join the Mormons or the Scientologists? You would fit right in.
Here are some news for you: Humanity cannot evolve under its current behavior. Allowing the weak to live and thrive? That goes against evolution and very concept of survival of the fittest.
@ShadowAimai people will evolve in a mental sense, and there are no god hood delusions there its a possibilty considering possible immortality is only a few decades away and i, being 17, expect to live serveral decades, then when i have immortality who knows what will happen, we could become computers or remain as cyborgs .
In over 15,000 years of recorded history Humanity has yet to show a glimmer of real mental progress. Slavery still exists. Nonsensical wars over stupid bullshit (cover for commercial interests lol) still exist. No advance.
Science has yet to understand how the human brain works. Sure, we know what parts is used on what, but the thought process? No clue whatsoever. It will take hundreds of years to really imitate that ability that happened by chance.
@ShadowAimai you've just made a tangent on to a completely different argument in which i agree with you on it, i never made any claims about the posiblity of there being a soul, i just think i'd rather have peace of mind in immortality than take my chances in death
Nobody mentioned souls. This obsession with the flying spaghetti monster goes beyond the inane. You will not attain any sort of immortality even if you were to have a Methuselah lifespan. It would be better for you to quit such self deluded dreams and focus on what you have at hand. Only oblivion awaits humanity.
@ShadowAimai no i will hope and dream as that is what humans are ment to do, and you did imply souls as talking about how the human brain works, you are a useless to humanity if you really think that all have is oblivion look forward to, maybe you should speed it up for yourself? if i can, i will live forever
Nice obtuse logic there. Life is doomed to end. All life. Time itself will also "die". If you understood a bit of physics you would understand what this means.
Never heard of Entropy? The Universe will, one day, become one cold, dead balloon. Thus, only oblivion awaits. Immortality cannot be achieved. Long lives, sure, but immortality? Pray to the gods, you will have the same chances as if you did expect science to do it for you.
@ShadowAimai but that wont happen for another 1000 trillions years, and im sure by then we will have invented time travel so that when we do reach the point where every thing ends we can travel straight back to the beginning of time and live out another 1000 trillion years, and agian and agian and again
Nothing short of an almighty deity can "travel through time". You have watched too many scifi movies, methinks. Do you even know what time stands for?
You can't possibly be this ignorant if you claim to be someone focused on science.
@ShadowAimai you cannot rule out the possibility of time travel in the very distant future, i mean , did anyone in the 19th century think that we would have the internet or television?
Time is movement. In order to travel through time, one would need a snapshot of the universe in one specific moment, then set everything back the way it was. That is the only way. That is "time travel". You need to be a deity to pull that stunt.
But that's alright. You are young and have not sit to actually read a book, I see. Start doing that and leave delusions aside.
@ShadowAimai im sorry you have a weak imagination, i was only speculating the possiblity of living forever, although probably not possible as the hadron half life would have ran out and my matter would dissapear, its still possible that i could make new body from earliar mass travelled from the beginnig of time and just transfer my mind on to it. who knows... but you are the one acting like a deity by being so high and mighty looking down on me in contempt, pfft.
@TheRacistsMustDie Every religion on earth speaks of gods, most speak of a deceiver. Consider the secret societies and their occult(hidden) understanding.
I do not look at this for the stand point of religion. There is much evidence in the ancient world that suggest Aliens/more advanced humans made many appearances. There is no reason to think they ever left. Check out "chariots of the gods"
We have come too far to make it a choice. If we don't become dramatically smarter, we have to face extinction.
The question is how much of our humanity we are willing to sacrifice to save ourselves. Will transforming into intelligence machines make us happy?
Even if we become way more advanced, our minds are still part of a universe vastly more complex then us and we'll still be plagued by a lack of understanding.
His vision is augmented.

And the end of the normal death that I've come to know and understand is a very scary thought to me.

why will we need to live for ever or 1000 years??? there is no life without death there is no light without dark and there is no love without hate ... we (plants animals fungi bacteria ALL OF US!) have to die so our athoms could be used for something or someone else lets not be so self centered!

first, i am having a hard time formulating a cogent reply of the subject matter due to my sudden internal confusion about my own heterosexual proclivities.

I have migraines myself, and I believe that everyone should experience at least one severe and nauseating migraine in their lives. To many people love to dismiss my pain as "a little headache" and say it's no excuse to not do anything. The experience of a migraine gives understanding and perspective to what it is. And, thus, makes a person more compassionate to others' pain, and more likely to avoid pain, for himself or for others. That can probably apply to other things too.

It's funny to see how people react to something they don't understand. Transhumanism is something that scares some people because they can not comprehend that this can and will be achieved. As far as I'm conceded I applaud it and welcome it. For all those against it you can go a head and die and go to heaven I would much rather stay here.
Vjgoth 10 months ago

We should have the transhumans commit to machine bodies, then blast them to the far flung reaches of the universe! Or live on Mars that solves the problem of a caste system developing. They could transform Mars into a habitable planet and after years of work, download them into whatever utopian program they desire. That should solve over crowding. After all you don't really care what shape or form you exist in. I figure by this point we will have found an enegy system that's nearly everlasting.

I was going to comment on this, but I don't know where to begin. It's like trying to enumerate the improvements one might make to the Star Wars prequels, the inconsistencies and weak analogies are so much and so interconnected that you would almost need to argumentatively address the entire person to even form an adequate response representative of one's view. okay, last comment, i think, haha: do you think it possible that the conscious and manual self-direction of the functions of intelligence may (though you certainly seem to think it would accelerate our intelligence) actually hinder our intelligence overall by manipulating evolution? OR, would that capability actually be advisable? maybe it would be a new twist on the evolutionary process? then again, does controlling mechanisms in the way you suggest lead to faulty and inhibiting tinkering?
TheMindsmack 1 year ago
also, it seems to me that our conceptual construct of time is a vitally important aspect of hour human make-up, and without it i don't see us being very 'human' anymore. is that okay with you, if you agree with that at all? and if you don't agree with it, please tell me why. furthermore, the idea of eternity in a mass' pattern conflicts with the reality that all systems are in the process of failing: perpetual degeneration. this plays such an important role in what we are!
TheMindsmack 1 year ago
and about finding meaning through life: i am an absurdist, and view meaning in this light: it is something not innate in life, but created by life through interaction and language. i wonder if our interaction will lose significance without the empathic interaction of mortality in relation to how we live. certainly, there is a vast wealth of interactions to have, but even with a supposedly unlimited source, will we care enough to interact in the face of eternity?
TheMindsmack 1 year ago
zj, i'm curious as to what you'll think of this: our connections in relationships, society, and the world in general are empathic; we have the capacity to understand and relate because of hardships. mortality is, one might say, the kingly hardship. what do you think the empathic losses would be? also, a defining concept: everything we are is defined by what we are not... what becomes of life without death? very broad questions, i know, but i'd love to hear your thoughts.

Everything?

I've always been an advocate for living better over living longer, we're slowly extending the human life span however more than half our time spent here nowadays is spent under medical care and thus draining our resources.
If we worked towards maintaining the same level of health in our 20's well into our 50's our productivity would remain and we wouldn't spend as much time being a drain on the system.

@AnterosOfTheNyboriag Well obviously people would still like to have children you know, thats just a normal thing. alexnzxVersion2 1 year ago
@alexnzxVersion2 Ffffffff nevermind I misphrased that
AnterosOfTheNyboriag 1 year ago
@alexnzxVersion2 What I was trying to say was, why have kids if we live forever? creating more beings doesnt do anything, we would no longer have to worry about the continuation of the species. It seems like continuing to populate would directly be going against our well being, Im not saying there should be laws for it Im just saying, from a interlectal sense, why have kids? Now that were immortal why not switch our focus to something else?
AnterosOfTheNyboriag 1 year ago
@AnterosOfTheNyboriag precisely. We could focus on other things such as exploring other galaxies and discovering other species, we could build other civilizations so that we can continue to exist even after our sun is gone. the possibilites are endless.
yomama12password 1 year ago
@AnterosOfTheNyboriag Sorry if you find me offensive but what you said is ridiculous. People have kids because they want to experience what it is like to be a mother or father and want the chance to raise a kid. Saying we should not reproduce because there is no need is kind of arrogant. We reproduce to give other people a chance in this world, imagine if you were never born at all.

DraskyVanderhoff 1 year ago
@DraskyVanderhoff Actually if we are talking about an "eclipse phase" vision of transhumanism, with immortality being granted by resleeving ones mind in a new body, that would kind of indicate that science was advanced enough for ones mental engrams to be slotted into a computer matrix, which would seriously cut down on over population. Also by that point we will have got off planet.
matthewlane 1 year ago
@matthewlane Any way of transmission makes a copy of you , not yourself in another format , so you die and thats all. There would be a copy of you that wont be you , just another instance of yourself.
Open your eyes that shit that they are trying to sell us is just for convince us to do a massive suicide. Nothing more , thats the plan.
DraskyVanderhoff 1 year ago
@DraskyVanderhoff um... how would it be any different. Every single thought would be identical to my own... It would be like a cut and stick on a computer. Your not destroying those file fragments you are moving them to a new location one fragment at a time. Though it would be possible to fork yourself so there were multiples of you, though they would all become different from you over time, as it would have unique experiences (chain of continiuty and all that).
matthewlane 1 year ago
@matthewlane The base premise of the Eclipse Phase vision of transhumanism is that the mind can be mapped & is therfore just data.
matthewlane 1 year ago
@matthewlane You just clearly said that is wrong : Forking! . When you fork a program you made a new instance of itself! A NEW ONE. You are just a instance of yourself , not yourself. "You" are a abstract concept and the you that you are is just a instance. Like in a program the code is runing as one instance (or process) , but you can run many instance of it and they are all different and independent.
Man please , is soo simple to see it... if you copy yourself no matter what is not you.
DraskyVanderhoff 1 year ago
@DraskyVanderhoff forking is just the name of the proccess in EP (Eclipse Phase). If you copy your self & we assume for a second a perfect mental replication system, at the very second of creation how is he not you. You both have the same reasoning pattern & the same data. Heck sleeve him into a perfect clone body & there would be no way to tell the difference between the original & an alpha level fork (an Alpha level fork is a fork that has not been mentally modified for a specific purpose)?
matthewlane 1 year ago
@matthewlane I agree that the body is hardware but you clearly said that it would be a perfect CLONE body and that said clearly that is not Me , I'll died and that instance of Me would live forever , but not myself! Is like you said " I want to have a "you" in my planet where i'm gonna live and playing golf with you all day :)" Them The earth is blowed up with me there and you just don't care because there is a me with you playing golf.
To defeat the you just need Synthetic Genomics! :)
DraskyVanderhoff 1 year ago
@DraskyVanderhoff Sorry i want to said that : To defeat death you just need Synthetic Genomics! :)
DraskyVanderhoff 1 year ago
But how would it not be you. It would still be everything that made up you & if you transferred a perfect copy into the body, then for all intents and purposes it is you. Nothings been dstroyed, its just been transferred. Now if it was a copy, it would still be you, it would become less like you over time as you both experiecned different input, but it would still fundamentally be you.
matthewlane 1 year ago
@matthewlane Man... you don't understand the concept of copy and instance. Please read the linux kernel process called fork for C library if you are software developer , if not i can't explain this in any other way.
You have to believe what i said because is a total fact , you are a instance of yourself executed in this reality and in your body. There is no way to copy a instance because a instance is running on a hardware and it's not transferable ( only copyable and thats not transference ).
DraskyVanderhoff 1 year ago
@DraskyVanderhoff Yeah Ive never understood why ppl would be content duplicating themselves. For me that would just be an insult to everything I was to say a copy is a good enough substitute for me. The entire purpose of living is to experience life. Duplicating yourself wont allow you to continue experiencing life, or anything, it would just allow someone like you to experience it in your place and that hardly any comfort
1982mockingbird1982 1 year ago
@1982mockingbird1982 Okay if you have a word file & you copy that file on to a thumb drive, how is that word file inferior to the word file you already have? The only inferiority is in the physical storage drives capabilities. Now swap out the two identical word files. How is the word file you just called inferior any different to the original it was just copied from? If the information in the brain is just data, then there is no difference between the original data & the copy.
matthewlane 1 year ago
@matthewlane A file and a sentient individual are two very different things. A file isnt a sentient entity and therefore a suitable subsititue only needs to contain ideintical data with minimal corruption. However in transhumanism, a brain duplicate is usually intended to extend the human experience of its predesesor helping them achieve a kind of immortality. So even tho neither brains would be inferior, and may be the 'same' in scientific terms, the main purpose still wouldnt be achieved
1982mockingbird1982 1 year ago
@1982mockingbird1982 Yes, but the general supposition of Transhumanism is that the mind is just data we haven't figured out how to record or transfer yet. So no a file and persons mind are not the same... yet. But suppose for a second the technology did exist, in what way would the individual who had his cognitive patterns transfered from one vessel to another, not be the same person?
matthewlane 1 year ago
@matthewlane This has been very enlightening and has made me think. I cant be sure its the same person tho. What if you only copied the the data and stored it on a different medium with the human still alive and well. Where would the original person be? In 2 seperate locations having 2 seperate and very different sets of expieriences? Also could the artificial mind even be fully sentient(and I think anythings possible), or would it just be able to simulate the original person.
1982mockingbird1982 1 year ago
@1982mockingbird1982 To continue on the above theory, if you transfer that data directly from one storage device to another, directly how is the file not the same data?
matthewlane 1 year ago
@1982mockingbird1982 I'm really happy to see that someone understand my point :) . What Transhumanist really should focus on is Bioinformatics , Genomics and Systems Biology.
We need to improve ourself and also we can live forever if we use our genetic technology and stop the pollution in this world because we could make everything organic ( even computers , yeah it can be done but the only problem to solve is the performance ( is not too bad but compare with the silicon based one it sucks ) ).
DraskyVanderhoff 1 year ago 2
@matthewlane Depends on what you mean by 'you'. I dont want to die bcoz I want to continue experiencing. Duplicating myself wont transfer my phyche somewhere else, it would just(at best), create another phyche similair to mine. But that wont allow me to continue experiencing life, it would just allow someone who is apparently just like me to begin experiencing. I would see no benefit to myself.
1982mockingbird1982 1 year ago
@1982mockingbird1982 Psyche is not a real thing, its an umbrella term that refers to the mind. Mind is what brain does & if mind is just data, then transferring data from one storage device to another is not making a copy. Its a direct transfer. So there is literally no difference between the data in its original location & data in the new location. Its exactly the same data.
matthewlane 1 year ago

@matthewlane About the cell refreshing in our bodies: That's true but the point of it is that is gradual, and because the cells first duplicate and them they are connected to the rest of the old cell and finally the original cell die , that means that your "data" is in a continuum with your whole body , if your whole died and refresh in a instant , you died too and a new person takes place.
It's the same with this uploading to a net , there is no continuum because is a external structure.
DraskyVanderhoff 1 year ago
@DraskyVanderhoff The transferring of your mental program from your body to a new body would also be gradual... It would just be gradual in computer time, not in biological time (so yeah, it might take as much as an hour). It would still be a continiuum from the point of view of the person who resleeved. From there point of view they just fell asleep an woke up in a new body. Thats one of the base concept of Transhumanism: The body is purely hardware that you can update.
matthewlane 1 year ago
@matthewlane Thats one of the main goals of transhumanism: The eventual conquering of death. After all, if everything you think is backed up perfectly in a cortical stack, death becomes a transitive thing. Its no different then backing up your entire computer. Sure of you plug the data into a new computer there may be a small transition period (which EP predicts), but you are indistinguishable from the original data. In the end, thats all a human mind is: Data, we haven't learnt to copy yet.

dig the shades, but I have to disagree with you when you say transhumanism is meant to help all humanity.
You don't believe that the same elite that are depopulating will give you and every John Q. Public a legitimate shot at immortality, do you?
truthtrekker 1 year ago
The world is not overpopulated. I would recommend a great site to prove this. overpopulationisamyth. com
It is also because of unnecessary multiplicity (example: iphones vs blackberries, same thing, different companies) caused by our economic systems need to keep up cyclical consumption along with the problems of our profit based system wanting to create more & more products regardless of the environmental costs.

@ShadowAimai could you please tell me what your concerns are, I am a transhumanist and would like to know why you seem to think it is harmful.
jacewolf301 1 year ago
@jacewolf301
ShadowAimai 1 year ago
@ShadowAimai It used to be human nature to have slaves, I am sure people used that argument also. And sorry, i do not go by the name humanity, i am an individual and to not like to be judged in a group. It would be for a select group at first moron because of the cost, like cellphones and computers were and now look at how cheap they are, everyone can have one now in america. And if you do not think your thoughts and behaviors have not been changed, you do not understand anything.
jacewolf301 1 year ago
@jacewolf301
ShadowAimai 1 year ago
@ShadowAimai Good point, but most of the modern world has come to the same that slavery is wrong. It is only under developed places that accept it. Why would they allow such technology, well, for one if they don't then the services will fail and yes it would be a service and they need money. So if you got the cash, come and get it. I am not going to wait,I am going to work for a dream, something that is logically possible and needs to be tested. Life can be extended and flesh is not sacred.
jacewolf301 1 year ago
@ShadowAimai Remember, we did not get a laptop first, we got faulty computers that took up rooms. Everything we make advance, but if we do not take the first risk then we will accomplish nothing. Stop accepting stupid dogmas about death and life from primitive men, and be open minded to the idea that maybe we can overcome and improve on it. Stop assuming that the world is cold and cruel and have some faith in humanity.
jacewolf301 1 year ago
@jacewolf301
ShadowAimai 1 year ago
@ShadowAimai It is a dogma, because it is an absolute you know that could be overcome or proven wrong, if not you are not open minded. I do believe people said the same thing about flying, it is impossible to primitive people right? Your view is more of a nihilism viewpoint. I am a dreamer and one that is willing to work for a goal. I might fail and it could be funny, but in the end I am doing something that is better than saying 'Nothing has changed, and nothing ever will.' and giving in.
jacewolf301 1 year ago
@ShadowAimai Well, you're wrong. I can settle for having everybody enjoy the same rights as everybody else! And if there's one, there's probably more! Also, if changing peoples behavior is the only way to accomplish it, then fuck, do it. We can't be picky.
JonathanClement140 1 year ago
@jacewolf301 Search the movie The Age of Transitions on YouTube and watch it! It pretty much sums up the dangers and origins of transhumanism (which are of course eugenics which was based on social darwinism)

Humanism/TransHumanism is just another Utopian ideology caught up in the myth of social progress, Humanism is just an extension of Christian thought, actually Millenarianism to be exact. The myth of human progress was the idea driving some of the 20th Century's worst regimes to commit barbarism and genocide.

all the religious people will refuse this transhumanisn, and as the transhumanists become cyborgs, or computers, and then merge their minds with the fabric of of the universe and leave earth or whatever, the humans left will evolve and realise that we were right.
saulwilliams56 1 year ago
@saulwilliams56
ShadowAimai 1 year ago
@ShadowAimai people will evolve in a mental sense, and there are no god hood delusions there its a possibilty considering possible immortality is only a few decades away and i, being 17, expect to live serveral decades, then when i have immortality who knows what will happen, we could become computers or remain as cyborgs .
saulwilliams56 1 year ago
@saulwilliams56
ShadowAimai 1 year ago
@ShadowAimai you've just made a tangent on to a completely different argument in which i agree with you on it, i never made any claims about the posiblity of there being a soul, i just think i'd rather have peace of mind in immortality than take my chances in death
saulwilliams56 1 year ago
@saulwilliams56
Memento Mori. Look it up.
ShadowAimai 1 year ago
@ShadowAimai no i will hope and dream as that is what humans are ment to do, and you did imply souls as talking about how the human brain works, you are a useless to humanity if you really think that all have is oblivion look forward to, maybe you should speed it up for yourself? if i can, i will live forever
saulwilliams56 1 year ago
@saulwilliams56
ShadowAimai 1 year ago
@ShadowAimai but that wont happen for another 1000 trillions years, and im sure by then we will have invented time travel so that when we do reach the point where every thing ends we can travel straight back to the beginning of time and live out another 1000 trillion years, and agian and agian and again
saulwilliams56 1 year ago
@saulwilliams56
"Invent time travel"???
Nothing short of an almighty deity can "travel through time". You have watched too many scifi movies, methinks. Do you even know what time stands for?
You can't possibly be this ignorant if you claim to be someone focused on science.
ShadowAimai 1 year ago
@ShadowAimai you cannot rule out the possibility of time travel in the very distant future, i mean , did anyone in the 19th century think that we would have the internet or television?
saulwilliams56 1 year ago
@saulwilliams56
ShadowAimai 1 year ago
@ShadowAimai im sorry you have a weak imagination, i was only speculating the possiblity of living forever, although probably not possible as the hadron half life would have ran out and my matter would dissapear, its still possible that i could make new body from earliar mass travelled from the beginnig of time and just transfer my mind on to it. who knows... but you are the one acting like a deity by being so high and mighty looking down on me in contempt, pfft.

Naw Jace. You are just being melodramatic. And a bit silly.

@TheWillwillwill Please specify, otherwise I have nothing to say but:
Well that sucks, but still no need to encourage that even more.
TheRacistsMustDie 1 year ago
@TheRacistsMustDie Every religion on earth speaks of gods, most speak of a deceiver. Consider the secret societies and their occult(hidden) understanding.
I do not look at this for the stand point of religion. There is much evidence in the ancient world that suggest Aliens/more advanced humans made many appearances. There is no reason to think they ever left. Check out "chariots of the gods"
TheWillwillwill 1 year ago
We have come too far to make it a choice. If we don't become dramatically smarter, we have to face extinction.
The question is how much of our humanity we are willing to sacrifice to save ourselves. Will transforming into intelligence machines make us happy?
Even if we become way more advanced, our minds are still part of a universe vastly more complex then us and we'll still be plagued by a lack of understanding.
