I don't have a piercing so have no idea if white stuff is normal. But am pretty sure if it's a little red, hurts when you press & has the light yellow to yellow color liquid stuff coming out it could be an infection & recommend you get it checked by a professional. (I do believe the yellowy color is puss). Also if it has odor like a sewer, that is also a definate sign of infection but keep in mind that even without odor it could still be an infection.

I have a question. I got my belly button pierced about a month ago. it ooks pretty normal except its a little bit red at the top. Also, whenever I get it wet and press down on it when I'm cleaning it, a little bit of white/clear/light yellow gooey stuff comes out. I know it sounds gross lol, but I read online that it's normal for this white stuff to come out, but its not normal for puss to come out. How do I know if it's puss, or just the normal white stuff? Do you think it's infected?

hello, there i am having the exact same problem and i've had it for quite a long time ... it kind of gets better at times and sometimes is just nasty.... i had my gall bladder removed through my belly button so it's really scary .... i already wen to the doctor but he only suggested to dry it out really good everytime i showered... it hasn't help so im gonna get it check out again ... i mean the odour is really bad ... i tell my husband i am rotting alive .... gross...

hey i got this goin on now, third or 4th time i can remember this happening and i did have pretty good weight loss, 240-175 yea it hurts, definately sticks, makes me feel like i got a yeast infection in my belly button, and im a dude so double nasty

@meattube2009 Sorry I'm just now answering, life has been getting in the way.

You really need to get it checked out and sent the right antibiotics, thankfully the 2nd time for me was the last time (so far). Congrats on the weight loss!!!

I bet it's nasty, it's nasty for me as a woman.

A great doctor told me, "Your weight is not the answer, a good doctor will search for the real cause and treat you for it."

It's just unfortunate this happened to you :-S sorry. I am 14 and would like to get my navel pierced do you think I can go ahead and get it done... is infection something to worry about and can growth cause a navel piercing to reject or not. Do you know? Thanks for the long answers ha :)

@Anitia14 Sorry I didn't get back to you, been out of touch.

Honestly, not trying to preach but maybe you should wait until you're like 18 to make this type of choice. That way you will give your body the time it needs to finish the changes that are going on, but if you don't want to then just remember to make sure the person uses clean everything!!!

Did infection travel into the section your navel is attatched to? Im scared incase this could happen to me if I got a navel piercing hah. Sorry about what happened to you.

I'm not clear on weather it occurred outside or in, all I know is that the doc told me that it is a sensative area since it is still attached to our amniotic sack (inner infections are dangerous to have). Anyone considering piercing should always be careful, starting with how professional is the person doing it & how clean the place is.

Just remember to always listen to your body, the pain is there for a reason & it has to be checked out.

No one was more sorry than me that this happened. You have no idea how disgusted I felt and how embarrasing it is to know that you smell like a sewer because of the infection leaking out.

Well, actually it's a good thing that it was leaking out cause if not I would have had to have a surgical procedure done.

A few people wrote me privately telling me they've had this happen (& are not surgery people). Most have it quite frequently do to lack of proper medical care (not their fault).

If this happens due to a piercing or sticking something in there that you shouldn't have, atleast you know why it happened. Bad thing is when you don't know why it happens, all one can do is insist on proper attention & get the correct antibiotics.

Remember that this IS a sensative area & anything can happen. If this happens to you or someone you know, my advise is seek proper care even if it means going to the emergency room so that they have no choice but to atleast do an ultrasound.

A good doc told me that all pain, irregularity & strange happenings have a source. Don't allow a lazy doc to dismiss it.

Thankfully ever since I insisted on going to the emergency room & took the antibiotics prescribed, this has not happened again :-)
