I haven't seen this anime yet... but after seeing this opening, there sure are a lot of characters...maybe too much.

That's not true at all. Some of the characters in the OP are pretty minor whereas some are major, like the first 2 you see, Isaac and Miria (Who are hilarious btw).

Honestly, it's a great anime, you should at least try the first ep out.
