badass man. sounds real good. do you crusie this at all? mileage? whats it pull for vacuum do ya know?
ive been debating on stepping up to a 200+cc head and a bigger cam, but i dont know how my drivability will work out. i cruise the crap outta mine, but i just wanna go a little faster. 12.80's-90's with 4000 lbs..
What kind of numbers are you putting down? I am building a 383 stroker for my 84 Z28, Ive got a forged scat crank, forged 6 inch scat rods, crane cam roller rockers, looking @ forged wiseco or probe pistons, custom grind LSM roller cam, either going with Dart or AFR heads, demon 750 carb. I am hoping to reach the 500hp mark. Its going to be a fun build :)
i also have a 406 in a 82 z28 the best of both worlds sb/bb bar none. to the first man of the 406cubic inch chevy small block...a mouse motor THAT BECAME A RAT MOTOR!!!....CHEERS!! A BEER TO YOU! !!
hey i have a 87 camaro with a swapped 350, and im sort of in compition with my buddy who has a later 70's mailbu which he built a 406 for and so hed eat my camaro right now but im planning on building a better motor and i was wondering if you think a 383 stroker could beat a 406 and i know theirs alot of variables but in general wut do u think is better
well i was planning on putting either a 4 speed or 5 speed in it, i want a 4 speed because i like more old school kind of stuff. Im also wanting to swap the 10 bolt out for a 12 bolt with posi. And gearing i havnt even thought to much about that yet because its about the last thing im worried about since im doing the motor now and the int/ext. 400's are sweet to but i already got a 350 in it so just going with that. And like they say 383 stroker weight of a small block power of a big block
Hey you runin on pump gas? 91? 93? 11:1 with iron heads and 246* cam sounds like a risk of detonation. What elevation you at?
I have a similar setup going into a nova, 406 with scat rotating assembly with 6 inchers and forged flattops, Ill be using dart iron eagle platinums 215cc and 72cc chambers. CR should be around 10.3:1 Cam is comp XE284H (240/246*@50). But Im at 4600ft. makes me wonder if I should have gotten 64cc chambers
I have no Idea what the elevation around here (Western Kentucky) is. I do run the car on 93 at about 34 to 36 degrees total, seems to work fine. Your 10 to 1 will work fine, better to be on the safe side with pump gas.
the cam is gonna bleed off some of the compression ,, ,, but it doesn't sound like a cam with 272 @ .050 to me ,, with only 505 lift , solid roller ?? i had a 64 chevy II that ran 7.20's with a 355, 252/260 @.050/ 108/ 606 lift with ported 462 heads , flat tops , pump gas ,650 double pumper on a team G intake , 4000 stall /powerglide/5.57 gear /29.5x11.5 slicks , i never did get it completly sorted through ,,
i got the cam,a rpm air-gap intake, holley 750cfm doble pump, msd 7al-2 ign. box, 1.6 roller rockers, and im about to order a set of trick flow heads 195 cc runers 64 cc chambers, .600 max lift,do you have any suggestions on the heads? or you think thats a goo choice?
What size engine? If it's a 350 those heads will work great, a 400 or 406 likes intake runners in the 200+ range. Sounds like a good combo, stay with a cam with duration in the 240 to 260 @ .050 range and about .550 lift. Should be close to that with your 1.6 rockers.
My engine combination is listed here under the ABOUT THIS VIDEO heading. Your truck looks nice, I had a v8 s10 myself, it went 11.80's with a 355 small block.
Yea it's a good street strip cam. Has really good street manners but is a little small for my 406 combo. Still it runs and pull great, sounds good too.
Nice job Bro.

383, would keep up at best.
But really, it all depends on how it's geared.
rear end, transmission etc.
OH....and weight!
But in terms of engines......I'd snag a 400SB!
Torques up like a big block, and launches like a rocket!

Nice. I'd go with the 5. I'm trying to get my hands on one, if not, I'll go with a 4.
All I have is the 3.
I have a 12 bolt from a '69 Camaro in my '50. Never had problems with it.
That's understandable. One piece at a time. :)
A 350 is still pretty bad ass. I like them because of versatility, and availability of parts.
I used a 400 once. Now I'm putting one in my '50 chevy.
Good luck on your car!
