@edthefreak no, as if you're right handed you use your dominant (right) hand for simple strumming and your lesser hand for the more complex fretboard. However it seems swapped for keytar, where the simple controls are up top and your dominant hand is doing much more than picking. I guess a guitarist playing keytar would be like trying to play his guitar lefthanded?
@xYiazmatx Then, clearly you don't play keyboard. Since I'm right handed... and have played both guitar, keyboard, and a make-shift keytar, I still think you're missing the point. Keyboardists' strongest hand is their dominant hand. And most melody in keys is in the right hand. It only makes sense to play keytar with your dominant hand then. You even hold it the same way you'd hold a guitar right-handed.
@xYiazmatx It's just a difference of what's comfortable on a different instrument... and strumming isn't exactly all simple... gotta be good at rhythms to do it right. Especially more than just continuous chord strumming.
Remake the video. 1st CLOSE your closet door. 2nd Keyboard should face the camera. 3rd Plug the audio output directly in to your camera so we don't hear clicking of fingers as loud as the solo. 4th Have your instrument be the obvious loudest thing we hear. Other than that, great video
Hey, I know. The song is not transposed, but directly played by ear from the Jordan Rudess improvised solo on chaos in motion tour, so don't tell me about that! ;)
@hamelkarl how is it accurate when the solo is actually mostly on the white keys! how can you tell this guy he cant play black keys when he is better then at least most of us
@Mithedhel italian is not spanish :P im from mexico (spanish) great solo, btw, i dont think that was an improvised solo of JR, he is playing the 2nd on petruccis arpegios since 4°th compass, but I do think the first 4, that it is improvized... unless he plays the same in each concert, and if it does, maybe the first time it was improvised...
I was kind of wondering the same thing. I played guitar for about a year, but realized that it just wasn't the right thing for me. Now I'm really interested in getting one of these babies.
the screen is facing right up to the camera the whole entire time. ppl like you that think they know what they are talking about really annoy me. its a roland ax-7
well...that's probably also because it's the most recent model. also because it's a midi controller, so you can keep up with modern synth sounds. the AX-1 (very similar model) is also pretty popular (as far as keytars go anyway lol)
Thanks for your comment :) Yes, its played by ear from the performance of "Surrounded" of the "Constant motion" DVD.
However, the unison part is easy. It combines G-C-D and F in a major key, and all of them with the same movement. I recommend you to try playing it ;)
Anyways, there's a lot of solos of DT whose notes are written, and much better than this! Thanks again and good luck! Talk to me if you need anything ;)
I'm having plans of switching my instrument. I know how to play clarinet, guitar, and am a beginner level at keyboard. (Though I guess the first two don't matter.) Anyway, the keytar is on my top 5 option list. Can you offer any advice or good facts on the instrument?
I can briefly give you some advices. The keytar is a keyboard without sounds. So you have to connect it to a synthetizer of another keyboard or from a synth in a computer or as a sound module. All of this is quite confusing, expensive and it hasn't so much advantages. I highly recommend you to choose one or two instruments that you mentioned and become better on those.
BTW: there aren't keytars for sale at now. You can wait to the coming release of the new model that has it own sounds!
The new model has the advantage that it will have its own synth (sounds) and you only will need to connect to power and amplificator. But I still say to you that a keyboard has a lot of more possibilities than a keytar to make music. Keytar isn't a full complete instrument like keyboard, guitar or clarinet.
Anyways: The new model will be called Roland AX-Synth and it'll cost around 1250$ I believe.
Good luck with anything ;) talk to me if you need some more help
Yeah. I kinda figured that out myself about the Keytar when my friends always said "why would you want a keytar when you can continue with the keyboard?" (Ignore them. XP)
Aye aye....that's a lot.
Thanks! I'll be sure to ask you for advice, etc when needed. ^^
Keytar is just a way to play. Roland AX-7 is only a MIDI controller without sounds. The new model (Roland AX-Synth) will include its own sounds, and that's the reason why it will be more expensive. I think it will be around 1100 $
Well, I wouldn't call it "harder", is just different, and you must get used to it, and until that, it will be a little more difficult than normal, of course ;-)
One of the best keytar-videos on Tube and in HD! Wow Man that board looks even cooler when you can see it in HD :P I'm going to buy myself Roland AX-synth when they start selling them :)
Sorry :) I don't understand what you mean. Do you ask if I'm really playing it? Of course man, I think is appreciable, but thanks for your question. That means that it sounds so similar to original solo, hehe
yup cables are there, however all I can hear is the backing track and the sound of keys being hit. i'm not just being a dick here that's ALL i can genuinely here.
Its played with a similar sound, but it's far from being the same. If you listen to the backing track (The surrounded performance at constant motion DVD), you will easy notice the difference. Congrats for the video, very well played.
