There is no reason why they had to get rid of the city at the end. Maybe the scenes were outdated but the fiber optic effects and the city beat the glowing triangles by far. They ended at the beginning of home computers. The last I remembered I got a text on a handheld computer that is way more advanced than a Macintosh Performa, fit's in my pocket, it also works as a camera and a phone Its called a CELL PHONE. Even the screen show is an outdated image.
yeah come on, Disney has enough money to update the last part of the ride that is supposed to be the future. It's supposed to be the future but it's more like 1980!!!
The Irons narration also read like a textbook. A very elegant textbook, mind you, but not something I'd read for pleasure.
I personally liked the eloquence of the old narration, but I can imagine most guests being bored with it. The Dench narration though seems a little too conversational and jokey, and it just doesn't work to have her inject little bits of humor into the speech when the animatronics are all deadly serious.
the old ride was so outdated! they were talking about the future, but most of the stuff they were envisioning when this ride was made happened 20 years later.
I sit here applauding Disney for YET again ruining another ride, thought they might have learnt from Journey into Imagination but guess not! The FANTASTIC Space & City scenes symbolising communication have gone, unbelievable! Judy Dench is great BUT not Jeremy Irons. The ride music score was the best Ive heard, how is anything ever going to become classic if Disney keep changing, when will they realise people LIKE these classic rides and to leave alone! This WAS my favourite ride,it's so sad!
I agree, They really messed up when they changed Journey into Imagination, it is so stale and lifeless now! I was VERY sad to see the change, even the interactive area is lacking! Bleah! I am writting them and giving them Two Mickey Ears Full!
Spaceship Earth is one of my favorite attractions, I agree they made alot of unfavorable changes. I miss Walter Cronkite, Tomorrow's child, and the Jeremy Irons version alot. That being said, there is nothing wrong with change, that is what EPCOT is all about, there are a few updates within the ride that are great, and greatly improved the ride.
hahahah dont worry up until 2007 I didny even know there was a ride at inside the "big ball" hahahaha and aprently i've been on it when i was little hahaha

please bring back jeremy iron's ethereal voice and eloquent script. ...this sounds like a schoolteacher reading out of a textbook! first disney ruins Alien Encounter -- and now the great classic Spaceship Earth. (sigh)
the last time i was there was march 2006 and i really loved this ride, we went on it about 5 times over the course of our stay! so what actually has changed? is it just the voice? or has the whole ride changed completely?
We sure are losing the old Epcot attractions. Back when they had strong good narration, not like the ones such as this version of spaceship earth. But I guess that's what it has to be you know, out with the old, in with the new.
I agree. The "story" of Spaceship Earth is a pale imitation of the strong message it used to have. Even the Vic Perrin version is better than this current story. Inventing the future? Get Real. The future of mankind should not just be about technology! And not about how it helps, quite selfishly, "you, the individual." How about the advocation of peace, understanding and cooperation to create a better world? This is what I thought Epcot was about!
Thanks so much for this and your other videos, I have been wondering what done since the rennovation.
I cannot believe what they did to Spaceship Earth, they have completely ruined it. The narration is so dumbed down and lost all its power with the new narrator and weak script.
I'm 17 and remember the last time we were at Epcot and how the ride had so much meaning and power and inspiration, now its meaningless. I hope they realize what they have done and somehow change it back.
true that jeremy irons sounded like prof. snape growling about the history of communication, but he had just the right amount of darkness for the ride. and think about it, judi dench's voice is just too upbeat, too happy for a dark ride if u ask me. i dont know about u, but, coming from a 15 yr. old, i personally miss the jeremy irons version of this ride. hell, i miss the original concept of this ride in general!

We are fomenting rebellion-- here is what we may do:
first, print out, headsized, a photo of Jeremy Irons' face(for example, the shot at tinyurl com 83lxdzt ...
take it with you on to Spaceship Earth...
hold it in front of your face when they take your photo for the silly animated stuff later...
Jeremy Irons masks , the Guy Fawkes masks of Spaceship Earth :)

...the Judi Dench narration feels as if she's "talking down" to me....and I find that quite offensive.

I liked the old ride much better. Nothing wrong with the New ride but the old ride had more of a "classic" look and feel to the ride itself...
It would have been cool if new scenes and characters were included..

I am 16 years old, and I must say Horizons was my favorite "Futuristic" Ride...
At any rate, I can only hope they have not entirely fucked Spaceship Earth up (Prior to 1999, I called it "the big ball" xD)

Well, the thing is, for a ride about Communications, this new incarnation allows people to communicate with the ride.

While there were some breakdowns, that message typically means that someone in a wheelchair was getting onto the ride.

Tell me Dench did not actually say "remember how easy it was to learn your ABC's?"
No m'am, for you see, I am developmentally stunted, and there for I must be spoken to like a child.
Cripes, I was expecting a slightly more sophisticated script considering this was supposed to be an UPGRADE.

Morgan Freeman would have been a better choice for this ride than Judi Dench. I mean it's Morgan Freaking Freeman.

Not only that, but the current Disney Channel, compared with the original, is something to be questioned about as well.
