  • I believe there's a misconception that martial arts is only hand to hand combat. Martial arts encompasses weaponry too, in which case, Africa has MANY martial art styles. Note that the Zulu and the Zandi are two historical african peoples that had a warrior class. Each warrior was trained in several weapons, each of these weapons having their own uses thus their own methods for combat.

  • soul-in kung fu!

  • Actually egyptian martial arts comes from ethiopia...for egypt was once a colony of ethiopia...

  • Thanks for the informative video. I take interest in researching the roots of the Martial Arts. I hope young people like myself would also take interest in learning about their own people through Martial Arts.

  • hmmm

  • sensational execution of fact i would love to have seen this interview in its entireity!!

  • African Martial Arts is the Best.

  • @Ayisiens thats not true

all martial arts are equal coperia, kung fu, okinawa karate, silat, muay thai, bokator and all other martial arts

  • @flysnake12 : Well I'm not sure that's a completely accurately statement..... But All have the inherent qualities that can cause it's participant to excel.

  • It'd be nice if the African MA were demonstrated rather than this guy saying "Most martial arts came from Africa"

All I know is that the oldest MA is Wrestling, apparently founded in Egypt

  • @ronki23 : Just for the record "this guy" didn't say "most martial arts came from Africa". :=) Yes you are correct that the oldest recorded Martial Art is rooted in Egypt..... ok... that's enough from "this guy". :=)

  • @OsoTayariCasel Osu sir, would you agree with me that just because something might not be recorded before egyptian times doesn't mean it didn't exist...lol, your on the right track sir, back to where life started.

  • @ronki23 wrong, do more research and you'll find the truth and it goes back way further than egypt, I know it hurts but he's right....lol

  • The only videos I can find on African martial arts seem to be Americans who say that what they do is African.

Was this learned in Africa? If so are there any videos available of the African masters practicing and teaching in the traditional way?

The only clips I've seen of Africans fighting is short clips of tribal games that seem to be a very interesting version of boxing or wrestling, but it doesn't look like what you do in your clips.

  • @seadawg93 : Yes there are several documentaries where the different countries show small segments of their warrior arts.

  • @OsoTayariCasel That's great. I haven't been able to find any of them, do you have the titles?

  • As much as I agree that the source of humans originated in AFrica, that does not mean everything other cultures practice are dinstinctly AFrican, many things developed later in time due to trial and error, and investigation, that inlcudes kung fu and Asian Martial arts as with other practices, the Chinese get credit for refining Asian martial arts to what we see today, as with other cultural aspects and other cultures..

  • Hotep: This concise explication of the History of Martial Arts and its' Afrakan foundations are being formulated now. The fact that this video cuts of GrandMaster Casel as he shares powerful information on the foundations of contemporary "Asian" martial arts is reflective of the need for a more extensive video in the immediate future for all to know and see the truth. May Maat be Ra-stored. Shem Hotep

  • Habari Gani? Mfundi? It has been along time. I am happy to have been one of your students. Nice to see you.

  • Asante Sana..... As you know there are many words and gestures used throughout the world to represent respect given to someone and Namaste resonates with me very well. There are times when others are expressed. Glad you asked. :=) Hope this finds you well. Have a Magnificent Day, - Peace and Blessing, Oso

  • Oso Tayari do you have plans to tour or do work in the uk?

  • Why do you say "namaste"? Isn't that Hindi? I thought you're an African Martial Artist. Anyway, you are very very good.

  • I just had an enlightening conversation with Master Bakari ... and during this conversation I asked him why it seemed that yellow and also black-skinned monks were being depicted as training together? Just then, I overheard him talking to a certain Tayari Casel. Basically, I feel like I'm barking up the right tree!

  • The most important thing here fror me is that your martial art is in harmony with your spirituality!!! You have truly restored my faith in why I actually train! MY experiences have disheartened me with the kung fu world, and I stay very close to my sifu. Now I'm honored to meet such a being as you!

Ya Haqq! From Amin Aduz Sattar!

  • my friend referred me to your videos here. it seems like the martial arts community really needs people like you to bring to people's attention the lost arts and with it lost information and lost cultures... at least lost to most people who practice today. Please upload the rest of the interview when you can!

  • Asante Sana.... I'm glad you have a friend who wants to expose you to other expressions of the martial arts & you decided to check it out. I will offer the full interview in a short while later. Namaste - Oso

  • Peace!

It is great to see Bro. Mfundishi Casel, it has been along time! It was an honor to train with you and Mfundishi Dennis Brown! My teacher was linked to you "Great Masters" and today some twenty plus years later, I have become a competent Instructor, historian, martial scientist. My 1st Teacher Edward Hanif Uchaka Fox, long live Chi Wushu Shule

    Prof. Sifu Guru Haleem

  • Peace and Blessings.... I'm sure your students appreciate all that you give. Thank you for writing. Namaste - Oso

  • Brother, for years I have been trying to get more information on various forms of Afrikan martial arts. What system is this that you practice, which part of Afrika did it orginate from, and will you do any seminars in New York City in the near future? Peace.

  • Greetings.. Thank you for writing. My studies include Afrikan and Chinese Martial Arts. I will be in New York City October 3,2008 w/the Great Soke Lil John Davis in Brooklyn. However, If you are interested in hosting a seminar to share with others my knowlede and experiences please contact me. Namaste - Oso

  • living legend yes sir

  • Damn, I just sat down with a bowl of shrimp gumbo, put the spoon to my mouth, and the interview was over.!!

  • From most arts that i did and observed they all had common truths as even as my instructor say universal movement of human being,The Afikan Martial Arts laid the groundwork and everyone else adapted their own spin to it.Thank you Sir

  • It sounds like the wisdom of your instructor and your personal experience has helped you formulate an understanding that is True. Thank you for viewing this offering. I hope you find the others interesting. Namaste, - Oso Tayari Casel

  • Mankind in general started in Africa.

  • Mankind in Specific started in Afrika as well as many things that have benefited all humanity. As you may know unfortunately the truth has not always been known to the masses. Thanks for your comment. Namaste, - Oso Tayari Casel
