i played this recently on PC and it was an absolute blast. unlocked everything and completed the game 100%. The level design is what i enjoyed the most with all the alternate paths its fun exploring and finding the biggest shortcuts. Also racing against metal sonic and metal Knuckles was challenging.

The PC version of Sonic R has no music.

You can change the levels of volume for the music in the options but no music will play. I inserted the PC disk into my Mac and saw that it had no music files to download into iTunes either.

@scr515 Could be. Mine never had music, no matter how much I fiddled with it. Maybe it was the OS I was running it on (Win2000) or perhaps the fact it was bundled with the PC Sonic 3D Blast. I'm not really sure what's up with it.

From what I've seen, the PC version of Sonic R is highly superior to the Saturn version. The PC has a much longer, more powerful draw distance than the Saturn (even if you're playing it on an old computer), the character models look a lot cleaner, and the controls are a heck of a lot smoother. Looking here, I can tell the Saturn pad was not a good control scheme for this game at all, and I can safely say using a keyboard or even a modern controller with a stick is much easier.

It's nothing like this guy says,sonic's faster than tails and knuckles,and his double jump makes him pass through places others can't.

And you can't make them run straight because you don't know how to play this game -.-

I've done everything on this game: all emeralds,chalenges,i had all characters,and i loved the gameplay.

Man don't chose sonic and bash the game on how hard it is ... Sonic is a bit hard but he is the fastest and must have some kind of a drawback, just chose one of the slower guys for starters.

I've played this a lot and I beat it using Tails. One time in tag mode I saw Knuckles not moving even when I was close to him. However I didn't get any of the lock characters expect Eggman. And I only 6 of the 7 Chaos Emeralds.

I actually almost completed the entire game with Amy. I was down to unlocking my last playable character (Metal Sonic) and no matter how hard I tried, I gave myself a migraine trying to beat him. So, I just said, "screw it!" and kicked his metal nuts with Super Sonic. Tails Doll was hard enough to unlock with Amy, but if Tails Doll won't get you, then Metal Sonic will. Amy is actually the easiest character to control, if you're not retarded.

Hey maybe for sega saturn its like that but all of these problems are fixed in sonic gems collection it has sonic R and i like the songs and i like the levels the characters [except tails doll] And better graphics its easy more easy to drift its fun i would give it a 7/10 for the sonic gems collection version.I can't say my opinon on the sega saturn because i dont have it.

I love this game, in a "so bad it's good" kind of way. The music is awesomely cheesy, the controls are a broken mess, and especially hilarious in multiplayer, and it's a glitchfest.

But at least it's really easy, funny, and not boring at all (except the balloon game).

I honestly thought this game was great. The vocals got a bit irritating, but if you shut vocals off... the music is FAR more enjoyable. Especially Super Sonic's theme.

The characters were mostly interesting and varied... Amy, Robotnik and to some extent Robo Tails were bad. Other characters had their ups and downs. Also when you get all guys unlocked, the difficulty increases when using hidden characters, as only they show up in races, which was a nice way to lengthen play value.
