why? u cant have more than 50%. Every choice has the chance that u get nothing.
So it always depends on what the enemy does. thats the unknown part of the calculation. so if u pick steal, u can only win everything or nothing. if u pick split, u can get 50% or nothing. AND the most important factor is, if u pick split, and the other is a greedy ..., u see him smiling with no concience and u think damnit, i wouldve prefered that this greedy guy gets nothing. so. all in all. pick steal always!

Humans are emotional beings and judging by the comments in the videos I can be sure that my reputation would be tarnished. Money is not the most important thing in life for everyone. If that is the case then everyone would be selfish and you would never buy a beer to your friends in a pub. But in a long run it is better for everyone if we are cooperative (repeated prisoners dilemma).

@mS28811: Steal is the 'superior' choice from the point of view of a person who wants to win the most money at the expense of somebody else - but it's still an asshole choice. It might be best from a individual point of view to steal somebody's idea and pretend it's your own too, or to slam on the brakes of your car and get rear ended so you can sue for money.

This is basically just a variation of the Prisoners dilemma which is a popular problem in game theory, I suggest you look it up. Actually the fact that you get to communicate with the person makes steal an even better choice. It's not that betraying isn't an 'asshole' choice as the first person who replied to me so elegantly put, but it is mathematically the correct choice. You do AT LEAST as well by stealing.

@mS28811 in terms of safety, if you choose split, either you both get money or one of you gets it all. choose steal and its all or nothing. from 1 persons stnad point, split is half or nothing. but after going through alot with a partner, id rather give them their share of the reward as well, theyve had all the same stress. id hope theyd be honest and split. its the more moral choice i think

If you were competing against a friend I would agree that split would be the proper choice since you can trust them and they likely wouldn't want to fuck up your friendship just as much as you wouldn't, but mathematically it's incorrect, especially if you don't knowthem. So your argument is it's all or nothing, or half or nothing? Weak argument since it proves the point that Steal weakly dominates Split.

@mS28811 Read about REPEATED PRISONERS DILEMMA. Tit for tat strategy is the best in a long run. Our life is repeated prisoners dilemma and you would help a family member or a friend without looking for immediate gain and your honest friends would do you a favor. Maybe in the future you would do a business partnership for more than 50k and the deal could fail if your business partner sees that you are greedy and uncooperative. If your reputation worths more than 50k then split is a better choice.
