  • in the life… never say me that course of stars isn’t made for me

let me amaze you and take my own flight - at least, we are going to enjoy…

party is going to begin – bring out bottles , that’s the end of troubles

I set the table of my new life

I’m happy by thinking of this new fate – [a life of hiding, but now I’m free the feast is on my way] x2

  • lirix: i want a french baguette

  • @CH33ZCAK3 Iwant french fries :D

  • ... Just be grateful that we are now able to understand the JIST of the song, instead of the continued wondering of what the words actually mean...

    Again, Thanks for the Translation.

  • I saw this film, Ratatouille for the 1st time this christmas. What can I say,It is Fantastic!. I can see why the film ends on a French version of this song, Since the entire film is based in France, however it is very nice to come across a person who has gone to the effort to provide us with a translation - To him, I take my Hat Off. - Brilliant Work.

I do Translation between English & B.S.L., I know translations are difficult and sometimes never exact - So Pls don't criticise the translation

  • C'est pour faire le même nombre de syllabes en anglais et en français que la traduction est bizarre?

  • I mean, he didn't translate the lyrics though. He copy pasted them from another site with them. I remember reading them many times. Much is lost in translation anyway, but it is the general gist of what the person is saying.

Une vie à me cacher et pui libre enfin directly would be something along the lines of A/My hidden life, and then free finally ----> "A life time of hiding, I'm finally free!"

    Hope that provides some insight.

  • Oh my god. I need to learn French. Its such a sexy language.

  • ohh my God...i try to learn it such very difficult...but i like this song...neeed more days to sing this song lol....i'll do it for someone...hah....my frenchy...miss u so....lol

  • Pixar has always been weak on soundtracks, and they probably always will. This song is good, but nothing special, Ratatouille really needed a more powerful soundtrack in my opinion. This makes me think of someone with a lot of money shopping, not a poor rat trying to pursue his dream.

  • tres bien

  • This is awesome :-) Thanks for this! I'm a French teacher and my kids love to do songs and finding the videos, let alone the lyrics, are a pain in the butt! Well done :-) ... and for those of you whinning about the translation, since when is it ever direct in life??!! Get over it!!

  • tres bien mon ami. j'aime ratatouille.

  • ohrwurm:D

  • Gentlmen... gentlemen... you're too hard on the poor soul who did the translation. They do say a translation is like a woman - either beautiful or faithful, but rarely ever both at the same time. He simply went for beauty, and I dare say few would make a different choice.

  • @Ginea25 So true. But in a few weeks your comment will disappear in page 2, and the whole ballet of comments about the translation will resume. IMHO, the translation is good, it bears perfectly the spirit of the french lyrics.

  • Magnificent.

  • That isn't the proper translation. 'Ca n'est pas pour moi' means 'That isn't for me'. And 'La Vie' means 'The Life'. What's wrong with you? I mean, I've been taking French for three weeks in high school and I know for sure that's not what it really means.

  • @fouini94 The translation is incorrect because it is not a translation. Those are the original English lyrics written by Michael Giacchino, the composer for Ratatouille. Upon selecting Camille to perform the song, new French lyrics (which are far from a direct translation of the English) were written by Boualem Lamhene. It was decided that the French-language version fit perfectly with the film's tone, so it appears in all language versions. However, I too prefer the more elegant French lyrics.

  • I still listen to this til 2011 <3

  • dudee omg i watch ratatouille yezter daay andd thiss soong whaas ihn iht andd i hadd too look it uhp ! ;DDD this song is lovely . wOw ivee nvr sedd thaat ovr a songg

  • @fuhhkbudd16 *watcched

  • @fuhhkbudd16

can't tell if trolling, or just very stupid.

  • im not french but this song is awesome!

  • are there any other french songs like this? I've been looking so hard but I can't find any like this.

  • @meixdg i have been looking too. look up the other ratatoille soundtracks, my best offer. :)

  • I think it's more of an alternate version than a direct translation .this version actually fits the melody and rhyme, sing along you'll see

  • The translation is so wrong it's funny :)))

  • the translation sucks what did you used google traductor?

  • Where exactly did u get ur translation?

  • who the heck bothers singing "My dinner is waiting for me"?

  • @ThePiefacify Its a song about "The Feast"

    READ

  • Just to say that the chorus says "I'm never gonna be told, that the path of stars aint for me. Let me marvel and take flight, finally we we shall enjoy" or something like that (I speek spanish actually, so there might be misstakes)

  • im canadian, but i dont know that much french to understand or tell that the english is wrong.

  • i love how she says r.

  • The french is correct but the english translation is incorrect sorry to say

  • The translation is right.

  • ok... once you actually are fluent in two languages, you grasp the fact that things sometimes cant or shouldnt be translated exactly... you want to use the best possible way to express the same idea or feeling as you would in the natural language setting. so please.... give it a rest with all the "OMG i know like.... 2 years of french and i can tell the words are wrong!" and CHILL OUT.

  • translation is wrong, but song is GREAT

  • not only is the translation wrong but also the written french is wrong. eg: its written je si for je suis, clearly the work of an amateur.

  • 0:41

  • If you speak French and you wished you spoke a different language, re-think that! Seriously!!!

  • the worst translation ive ever seen!

  • dans la vie is "in life", not "eating is free" gosh! your translations are very wrong! but i like the video though:D

  • What genre would this be under? I love it!

  • J'adore cette chanson du film! Je voudrais chanter ce dans la salle de bain et il est une chanson vraiment bonne. Plus cette chanson me rappelle de la maison. J'ai vécu à Lyon, en France et c'était un endroit vraiment agréable à vivre et à visiter. Mais ma famille a dû déménager aux États-Unis parce que o certaines raisons et il a déménagé aux Etats-Unis.

  • Love this song!

  • Well, guys, the translations are not the same and that way they can make the English lyrics sound beautiful :)

  • This isn't the right translation, I guess you got this from Translate Google? :) But either ways, I am Inlove with this song!!! =D

  • Usually when songs are translated well it's not exact. The words were changed because something that sounds good in french may not seem as beautiful in English. What translators try to do is keep the overall MEANING instead of just using a dictionary for each word. for example the line 'un voleur solitaire est triste a nourrir' literally means ' a solitary thief is sad to feed' and I think the english version here is better : 'Many thieves' lives are lonely with one mouth to feed'

  • maybe its not the right translation of this song, but, who cares, the song is simply beautiful

  • @MsCulorico Because some people who want to know the real translation will probably end up believing this is it. If they think this is correct they have no reason to search for the actual lyrics. No offense, just saying.

  • @MsCulorico wouldn't it be even beautiful if you knew the real meaning of the whole song? ( if it were correctly translated into english)

  • @MsCulorico The song is beautiful because of the lyrics, if you mistranslate them, it loses its natural essence.

  • @MsCulorico Thats very very true

  • j'adore this song

  • @flquadcamp Moi aussi :)

  • ummyeah... I'm in my fourth/final year of french in high school and that is WAYYYYYYY wrong. But thanks for the effort!

  • ilove this song

  • j'adore cette music

  • Did you copy and paste the original lyrics to Google Translate? Thanks anyway !

  • just the word France is already romantic....

  • La France est le foyer du grand artiste

  • J'espère que la traduction est correcte

  • @amndsings essayez-vous à parler anglais

  • Il s'agit d'une magnifique chanson

  • @amndsings d'accord

  • I tried to learn this song but it's really really really hard 4 me !!! i'm not a French and i don't learn french (but i really want to)

  • Thanks for taking the time to translate this as best as you could.

  • lyrics sometimes do not translate directly as to have the same syllabication when translated. thus is the same with spanish.

  • I may be only in Level 3 of French, but that translation is VERY off.

"Ils donnent de la joie ou bien du chagrin"

    roughly translates to

    "Gives(them) joy or grief"

  • other species who want to try a foreign tongue must give a try.....thanks for the translation may it be exact or not i enjoyed your version...it will be another version for anybody now to know the exact meaning...:)

  • wow! i want to cry....thank u...

  • my new goal is to learn the lyrics by heart : )

  • 6 amargadosz

  • 6 ppl didnt like it bc the lyrics were rong!

  • telle une traduction erronée :o

  • the meaning of le festin is the feast :)

  • the meaning of le festin nis the feast :)

  • omg i loooove this song it so beautifullll!!! i memorized it and i speak english

  • its just so lovely..it so calming

  • what the fuck is this English translation?

  • what the fuck is this English translation?

  • <3333 -Love-

  • very bad translation :(

  • muy mala traduccion....

  • such a pretty song

she has an absolutely beautiful voice

  • I would love to do this song but I don't speak a bit of french and I am afraid people would bitch at me for my bad accent and mispronunciation of the words LOL but it just wouldn't be the same in English now would it?

  • me encanta

  • must learn French

  • cette chanson est la meilleure putain de tous les temps

thumbs up si vous aviez à google translate cette réponse

  • The translation is not quite right. But... thanks anyway. The music and the film are excellent.

  • the translation is so effing wrong.....omfg....

  • Cette chanson est plus inspirante, lorsque je vais à ma fenêtre et voir la ville de lumières à l'aube. merveilleux de la façon dont la tour eiffel illumine à la tombée de la nuit

  • Quite wrong, actually. The lyrics are more:

The dreams of lovers are like good wine

They give joy or even sorrow

Weakened by hunger, I am unhappy

Stealing on my way everything I can

Because nothing in life is free.

  • @evillittletree not wine, the song says vie, not vin, and wine is vin, not vie

  • @The123racecar321 no, its wine. vie and vin sound different and she is definitely saying vin in that first verse (it also rhymes with chagrin a lot better too). "Vie" makes no sense there and is too redundant.

  • The translation is really wrong, not a bit, really really wrong and very different of what she's saying in French,

you must understand french for apreciate the words, because the english lyrics is really something that has nothing to do with this song

  • @fouini94 In French, with the intonations and all, the song is perfection. It is simply impossible to translate the beauty.

  • Tu me manques mon chéri.

  • J'aime bien cette chanson :) C'est mimi ^_^

  • Thank you for making this video!=.^_^.=

  • J'adore cette chanson! Quelqu'un sait-il couramment le français, si vous ne parler avec moi! sa personne vraiment difficile de trouver en Amérique qui parle français! Je suis de la France.

  • the reason im taking french!!

  • Hermosa Cancion Camille tiene una bella voz

  • The english translation is nothing close to the actual. The whole song is using food, or "the feast" as a metaphor for love. At the beginning she is "starving" metaphorically, but by the end, she's preparing a "feast" with her lover.

  • Thanks for posting!! Beautiful song!!

But I cannot understand what the subject of this song is even after I read the Eng subtitle. Is it about eating delicious food??

  • @shinw1122

It's more about living life to the fullest and not holding back.

  • the transaltion is wrong.... like really wrong!... sorry to say so but its true...

  • @cullencovenmember what does it REALLY mean?

  • @cullencovenmember A lot of pieces of music have alternative English lyrics that aren't exact translations. They are meant to fit the music, so if you wanted to sing it in English those are the ones you would use. This used to bug me tons in choir too.

  • @cullencovenmember ..really? but the lyrics seems so great..and fits so much w/ the movie...maybe this is just his/her version......anyway, this is really a great song, i wish somebody can work and share for the translation..thanks

  • @cullencovenmember Alors, quelle est la traduction proprement dite? Vous devez leur donner crédit pour essayer au moins.

  • @cullencovenmember its not the translation its the english version

  • @cullencovenmember I have found that there really is ( and those lyrics are it) an 'english' version in which the lyrics are changed to rhyme. there's a great video that puts the french and literal english transalations with it "le Festin' by loveisanoption on youtube. I like this video though so great job, Janjoshua96!

  • @cullencovenmember The translation is right.

  • @cullencovenmember and everyone else that says the French is wrong...

Like most other people have said, the translations may not be EXACTLY the same as the French, but it's meant to be that way. Lyrics can't be translated exactly as is. They have to carry the essence of the music, its meaning, you have to try and make it not only sound natural, but carry the same idea and feeling. We're not just translating, we're writing a whole new song with the same ideas.

    @LovSonicTheHedgehog: agreed. <3

  • @Petalsayer

But then that's not the ''English translation'', but the ''English version'' of the song. The essence of the translation is to be faithful.

  • @cullencovenmember the "translations" are no literal translations, but the lyrics used in the english version of this song.

  • This is beautiful!!!!!!!!

  • Oh I just love France, the music, the art, the sites, the language, the food <3 I'm so happy I decided to take French in school, I'm gonna go there one day. France is so romantic along with its language :)

  • @LovSonicTheHedgehog4 Unfortunately the translation is horrible! LOL

  • @LovSonicTheHedgehog4 OMG! same with me! im going to paris in a week 4 a tour with meh BFF!!! I CANT WAIT

  • @LovSonicTheHedgehog4 I love you!!!!

  • @LovSonicTheHedgehog4 sorry to burst ur bubble but its actually really filthy....

  • hermosa cancion

  • j'adore ce chanson. C'est l'histoire de ma vie. XD

  • looooooooooooovvveeeeeeeeeeee this song <3 and the lyrics <3

  • I LOVE FRENCH PEOPLE! I LOVE YOU FRANCE!!!!!! YOU ROCKS! ANYONE THAT'S FRENCH AND IS READING THIS, YOU ROCK!

  • The party will finally start

And bring out the bottles, the troubles are over

I’m setting the table; tomorrow is a new life

I am happy at the idea of this new destiny

A life spent in hiding, and now I’m finally free

The feast is on my path

A life spent in hiding, and now I’m finally free

The feast is on my path. . . .

  • The dreams of lovers are like good wine They give joy or even sorrow Weakened by hunger, I am unhappy Stealing on my way everything I can Because nothing in life is free.Hope is a dish too soon finished I am accustomed to skipping meals A thief alone and hungry is sad enough to die As for us, I am bitter, I want to succeed Because nothing in life is free. Never will they tell me that I cannot shoot for the stars; Let me fill you with wonder, let me take flight We will finally fea . . . st.
  • @tRandaPandat The English lyrics, aren't translated. They were re-written to match the music.

  • wow... lyrics are hella wrong

  • woah these lyrics are suprisingly meaningful! magnifique :)

  • It's not the direct translation, these are the English lines to this song as they are sung in the English film version of ratatouille, they would have to change the lyrics' meaning in order for the words to fit the tune ;-)

  • um... the translation is wrong alot...

  • now i can speak french but little

  • i taught myself to sing this! and i sound pretty good =D

  • I feel sorry for those 6 people who missed the "Like" button!

  • i can help person who wanna speaks french better (or lean completely) bye (i'm french ^^)

  • Nobody can ever tell me that the course of stars isn´t for me Let me surprise you and take the mine flying (robbering?, here's another game of words, it could be robbering or flying) We are finally going to give us a feast The banquet is about to start Bring the bottles of wine finish the details i set the table of my new life I'm so happy with this new destiny i have hided myself all my entire life and now i'm free The feast it's my new destiny
  • the hope is a dish that one eats really fast

I'm so use to eat no meal

A lonely thieve is sad (here's a beauty rhyme, that cannot be literally translated, instead of "à mourir" [until the dead], it goes "à nourrir" [Until the meal])

Against this bitter game, i cannot win

because nothing is free in life

  • the dreams of lovers are like the good wine

They give us joy or sorrow

    Weak because of hunger

    i'm so unhappy

Stealing in my way all that i can

    Because nothing is free

  • WRONG lyrics
