  • I saw them in concert. A million years ago

  • @gkhovde Lucky you. I'd treasure that memory for sure. I envy you.

  • You are so right. Karen was given a gift straight from God with her unspoiled voice. She was so natural and she sang so effortlessly like the birds do. I really miss real talent like that.

  • @cyndaification An angelic voice without question. Her voice is timeless. What a beautiful spirit she was. I love her yet I never knew her. I bought the Carpenters "Best of The Carpenters" CD and have it on my ipod because listening to her voice literally soothes me like no other singer in this entire world can. Her voice is actually many things: It's soothing, gentle, smooth, sentual and melodic. She was absolutely wonderful. I miss her so much.

  • Holy cats....Karen singing Carole King....can't get better than this....!!!!

  • @centralparocker agree totally!

  • I truly miss this girls voice! What a tragedy!

  • She would be 61 today, if she could have gotten over her sickness. What a beautiful voice, so sad.

  • I miss this song. I feel it speaks to me after my divorce. Too many tears spent. It's gonna take some time. Hopeful and wiser.

  • OMG ! WOW ! jeepers. I love this song. I love KAREN CARPENTER (and thanks to Richard for making this voice happen). WOW ! nearly 40 years later its' still the best ! THE BEST ! I have yet to know of any other female singer with a voice this brilliant and wonderful. Timeless. JEEPERS ! I'm all giddy now ... hootie hoot !

  • @ahfaxthis

well said! Karen was the greatest pop singer ever imo. Her voice is crystal clear and could reach inside you like no other no matter what she sang. It was all heavenly :))

  • @Purple1984Rain You said it! There was no purer voice ever recorded. Her phrasing and style were all so subtle - it was never "forced" like some more stylized artists people think so highly of. She was a perfectionist with a perfect voice - that combined with her brother's perfect arrangements and it was surreal. I'm so tired of some people saying "bland and boring" about their work. I think it takes an exceptional ear to fully appreciate the Carpenters' subtle brilliance.

  • Ummm, I may have failed to mention exactly how in love with her I was...she sang with the voice of the Godess on Earth, how I wish we could have saved her, we need her voice...Rest Karen, you'll always be remembered...I'm so sorry...

  • For people who wonder what angels sound like when they sing, just close your eyes and listen to Karen Carpenter...

  • Karen has one of the best female vocals in Christmas songs like "Merry Christmas Darling"!

  • The Best Voice.

  • Did you notice? the photo at 2:33 is from the photo sessions for the Now and Then album - that's Richard's red Ferrari, which people mistakenly thought was a Ford Pinto on the cover of the album!

  • @dgobbie1 I didn't know people thought it was a pinto on the NOW and Then album,,TOO funny.

I'll have to look at it, for I have that album,,cool thanks

  • I love this song - I remember listening to a radio interview in which Richard and Karen felt, after its release, that perhaps it was not as strong a single as they had hope for - it did not crack the Top Ten, unusual for the Carpenters in the early 1970s - upon first hearing it on the radio, Karen recalled "we goofed."

  • although i am only 12 i love her songs

  • @TheVongolaFile Karen's heart & her singing reaches all ages. You're not "only 12".....you're becoming your own person & that's a beautiful thing. The Carpenters far exceed in talent almost all music today. Be proud of what you love & let it become a part of your heart & soul.

  • It will be another 50 years before we see or should I say hear another amazing voice like Karen had. To date nobody has come close. In my opinion.......she has them all beat including Barbara Streisand who is another Great with a unique voice......

  • The vocals, the music, everything about this song is wonderful and a pleasure to listen to.

  • talant so righteous... This voice just is so pleasant to hear.. She is for real and will always be with us..

    Aloha

  • Seeing pictures of her so thin breaks my heart......Love their songs, they are timeless. I just wish someone could have saved her.

  • Esta cancion me trae recuerdos ENORMES...

For the old good times........... Beautiful voice

  • Our older brother bought my sister a table radio Xmas of 69 or 70, remember hearing this as I went to sleep one night when I was 6 or 7.

  • y love you karen the music is very bealtiful

  • I think Karen's voice is the most beautiful female voice God ever created. The Carpenter's music had such an impact on my life. I am so grateful for their work. I am so sorry Karen was not able to find peace on earth.

  • @JayMagner

well said and I agree 100%

  • See what people take from us with cruel and casual remarks. Karen should have been alive to entertain us today but she let someone's ignorance destroy her. People, be kind. You don't know what words can do to someone.

  • I am suprised that her anorexia didnt damage her vocal cords.Or make them weak

  • AT 27 min you can tell she is starting to get bad. the normal weight girl giving her the trophy looks fat compared to Karen. She looked pretty normal til about 1978 or 79.Guess it got really bad in 1981.At one point she was so thin she looked like an ET or a burn victim.

  • @melodicrockfan Es la mejor media voz femenina de todos los tiempos

  • What an incredible singer and drummer, She and my Mom have the same Birthday, March 2.

  • Ultimetely Karen & Olivia would have made more recordings together. No question about that. Fate just didn't allow it. Karen's range was beyond comprehention. Just a gift from up above.

  • @pbrick6301 Abusive Richard??? I think your on some kinda drugs pal!

  • With all her money and fame, and still couldn't get the help she really needed to get better.

  • What a terrific voice full of feelng, loving the sound she made before Jesus claimed her from the abusive Richard. Jesus vs Richard? I think I will bet on Jesus. And Karen.

  • If we'd only let her continue playing her drums, when she was happiest maybe she'd still be with us.Ok,so we may not have witnessed her remarkable vocal gift, but she'd maybe still be alive! Forgive us Karen, and thank you for your gift.It was too big a price to pay,but thank you!

  • truly gifted and a beautiful performer and person, I m sad she did not find HAPPINESS in here life time

  • @ralfi955 I really wonder if it's true that she didn't "find happiness". From what I heard about her, she was not an insecure person and seemed pretty down to earth with her act together. But for some reason she believed she was a fat pig when she was underweight and died of anorexia

  • She was one of a kind sad loss!

  • OMG. Lead Sister. Thank You,

  • voice of an angel brings a tear to the eye every time i hear her sweet voice RIP KAREN

  • what a lovely song...the best in lovely songs.....the Carpenters

  • Anyone who dislikes this song doesn't have a clue as to the true definition of the word harmony, not to mention that Karen had a voice that was un comparable to any performer before or after.

  • Amazing to think that she never even wanted to come out from behind the drums.

  • Makes me happy

  • @gooniegoogoo62 Thank you and you're welcome :)

  • Karen R.I.P. :(

  • beautiful voice. 0:27 too thin.

  • The world will NEVER have a singer like Karen and I think we all know that. She was so natural and soothing!! ♥♥♥♥ Love her!!! We miss you Karen!!

  • Written by Carole King and Toni Stern!

  • @lastalot AMEN...

  • its going to take some time till another Karen Carpenter- like voice will dominate the music industry

  • As I am deep into writing my book, her voice takes me to places only she and music can touch.

  • This song descibes my divorce to a tee. Beautiful and sad.

  • this is an excellant group, duo that is. A & M records made a fantastic choice to produce this pair of singers this song debut on4/39/72 reached up to 12 on the billboard charts staying there on the charts for 10 weeks, thanks for posting some great songs, timothy phillips / oct

  • Adoro sua voz!!!!!

  • I love them both... what joy they their music beings to my life :)))

  • lol i loved their hippie phase from the late 60's :)

  • Is there not a more comforting voice?

  • For some reason this is my favorite of all The Carpenters songs, I listened to it often back during the early 1970s when I was a kid. Brings me back with good memories every time I hear it, along with rest with her beautiful voice.

  • @CaptainNomura

Hi, I agree with you it has same qualtiy as Masquerade and All You Get From A Lovesong.? Relaxed layed back music with that special memory feel to it..

Real Carpenterssound so original, Always with the amazing arrangements always best suitable for Karen's Voice.

  • Everything they did was amazing!

  • Karen was such a star that her light still shines to her fans as strong as ever! Thank You Karen Anne Carpenter!!!

  • I've felt like this so many times, I have really messed up, but life keeps giving me new mornings!

  • Their songs invoke hazy memories of my youth. One thing I know for sure is that the first time I heard Karen's voice, I felt completely comforted. Brings back memories of people and times that are no longer with us, and can not be recreated. I'm trusting in Christ for the happy reunion.

  • at 1:26 she looks sexy :D

  • Sorry, my age may be showing but nowadays it seems like every voice is trying to sound the same, but truly I haven't heard a voice like Karens since Karen and that's beautiful.

  • Maravilhoso, a voz de Karem aveludada da forma que foi, jamais vista antes na face da Terra, sem palavras. Deus gostava tanto de Karem que a levou para bem perto dele, no sentido de que ela cantasse ao seu lado no céu.

  • Ghods, how that girl could sing. What a tragic loss of a tremendous talent.

  • A great tune. Time to make a comeback...

  • @frank47hammer you're a fucking asshole.

  • @atty1chgo get back on your medications as soon as you can. Seek medical attention immediately.. haha

  • Go watch some Michael Jackson movies, fag.

  • @atty1chgo I hope you don't have access to any sharp pointed objects, because you are a danger to yourself and others. And quit calling me your family names. I bet you tried to runaway from home when you were little, but you always came back because you couldn't leave your brother's behind. Haha

  • @atty1chgo and go some place else, troll, because when it comes to a battle of wits you are unarmed, and I like more competition than conversing with a fool. Save yourself from further humiliation. There is nothing wrong with being gay; unless you are a closet gay like you who pretents to be against gays. You are a sad person.

  • @atty1chgo You have messed with the wrong person, you punk! I'd like to repeatedly take a shiv to your torso, you punk! Come on, scum. You closet fag, come on! Bring it on. Let me know where you live you British fag, and I will come and take care of you.

  • @frank47hammer Hey pussy boy, go get your rotten British teeth fixed, fartbreath. You're a really class act to criticize a dead singer. Go away.

  • @atty1chgo I feel sorry for ya, because the only thing that was ever long and hard on you was the third grade! You punk! You better run....

  • @atty1chgo In addition, I am not critizing a dead singer. She is one of my favorite singers. I love Karen Carpenter, and I still do. So I have no ideal why you started this.

  • Carole King, who wrote and originally recorded this lilting song, reportedly said something like this when she heard Karen's remake: "It makes my version sound like a demo." Since Ms. King's original is superb in itself, this was quite a compliment. There are no Karen Carpenters or Carole Kings around these days -- our loss!

  • @Iwakuni8 interesting, thanks

  • A man today would not believe in divorce with this gem rocking you to sleep!

  • I use to bring this album over to my friends house when I was a kid--and we would sit there and act out the whole recording. Such good music to grow up on!

  • I didn't remember this song. Thanks you very much for posting!!!

  • karen sings this song so sweetly.

  • :34 note karen's back-up on the words "next time" , untypically breathy and sensual, probably to better contrast a symmetrical treatment at :39 when the same back up vocal words are voice multiplied with her brothers and given two hard accents on the downbeats. cool little pick-up on the jazz flute--1:40-1:41 and also nice breathy staccatos on the up at 1:46. at 2:30 karen hits the high hat rythmically mirroring her voice--reminds me of shaft theme for a second, but compare with 1:21

  • Pretty version of a great breakup and recovery song. I prefer Carole singing her own song on this one though. ;)

  • Such a shame.

  • Iif you do not like Karen Carpenter then get the f--k out because you are messing inside a hornets nest those of you who do not like her!

  • @padude64 hear hear

  • She was Beautiful, inside and out. No comparison with Todays female singers. Hands Down, Karen Would WIN.

  • Oh my gosh...there is a beautiful sound coming from Heaven above!

  • I'm 36 and you know what...Karen Carpenter has the best female voice ever. I love her voice and Richard's talent must not be pushed aside either. His harmonies made them. RIP KC. Through me my kids age 6 and 11 know you and your songs. Caught them a few times singing them to themselves. :o) That's great! I know I smiled.

  • What a woman! My dream is to meet her in a dream. I wonder what knowledge she is saving up to share with the saints, I know that would be great. Beautiful woman up in the clouds, minister to Minnie, my beautiful soul-mate. Kingdom of Heaven is roaring so loud, can everyone hear it? Chariots of Fire. The Two-Edged Sword can't help but pour us out an even measure. Can you hear the war drums beat? World War Three. Oh no, visions and Dreams of Nuked New York City. DAMN NORTH KOREA TO THEIR FATE!

  • Coming from you that really means a lot...Ha Ha Ha !!!!

  • I must say that i really like the re-mix version better than the original...love the keyboards...

can really tell the chord changes and progressions...

    this is a great tune!

  • great flute solo.....

  • @dimpledick3inch Hi! Well I understand that you're saying that comment as a joke, but you shouldn't have said that.

Although I may agree that sometimes, Karen resembled a "witch", it's because of her being too thin. When she was healthy and all she looked good, pretty actually. Watch the video of Ticket to Ride or them playing Dancing In The Street when she was about 17. She looked great!

  • If this world was filled with more people like Karen Carpenter, it would be much better place to live! She seemed like such a beautiful person to know!

  • Wow ! That's Danny Kaye between Karen and Richard. Greatness knows it's own kind!

  • She was SO beautiful, it is so sad to imagine her struggles with her self esteem ...If only her Mother had paid attention to HER and Not Richard as much perhaps she would have had felt more love for herself...What Parents do to their Children !! God will judge her ...Karen..RIP ...xoxoxo

  • @PeaceFan1 ,parnts often don,t know and don't intend what they;re doing, you know.

  • wow, i had forgotten what a spectacular voice she had. strong and clear with a great sound....

  • ...makes my heart ache, I love it so much!

  • A great cover version of another great Carole King song. Timeless!!!!!!!

  • the times back then were simpler and they truly crossed over

  • While I was never a big Carpenters fan I do enjoy this song and it's just so terrible was she done to herself.

I know anerexia is considered a disease but still we're all responsable for our actions.

Wish she would of not allowed this to happen.

  • Speaking as a recovered anorexic... I can tell you then when you have this illness a mental change occurs and the suffer actually starts to feel good about themselves and no matter what is said or done it takes a LONG time to come from behind that protective shell. Once you get to that point you have no control any more and the illness is then in the drivers seat witch is the reason why Karen ended up waiting way to LONG to get treatment and ulitamitly passed away..

  • touching & beautiful. all their songs****love you karen**** & richard****

  • I love this song and I wont be so blind next time.

  • My favourite Carole King song. I'm not into, or even dislike, those classics in Tapestry, but this one is really moving. I prefer Carole King's admittedly "demo-like" version, but since the lyrics are not so sad, it can be said that Karen Carpenter's voice suits it better.

  • Not my favorite Carole King song. But it is good to see that Richard captured the optimism behind Carole's complaint. Perfect match: CK and the Carpenters. Wish Richard had selected some more CK's songs for Karen to sing. "One", for instance.

  • beautiful!!..what more could I say! I love this song and I miss Karen terribly!

  • Perfection!

  • karen spirit

  • Amazing. Simply amazing. Hello to everyone who has excellent taste in music.

  • Does anyone know where we could get the instrumental version of this song?

  • There's a company called Selectatrack which I use for karaoke discs. They're excellent and post to you within a couple of days. I've tried to post the link for you twice but with no success. Fingers crossed for you! Pls let me know if you still have probs finding it - I'll see what I can do.

  • Definitely my favorite Carpenters song. Everything about it is perfect: lyrics, production, harmonies, Karen's breezy vocals, love it :)

  • Not only was she amazingly talented, but she was also very beautiful in such a wholesome way.

  • There is not a day when I do not think of the beautiful music that the Carpenters produced.

  • @padude64 ************** I hear you, its hard NOT to cry when I hear their beautiful music....it touched when I was young and NOW that I am older I still get sentimental when I hear it............

  • @chazrjr Me too...when I hear ANY of the Carpenter's music, I'm happy {and} sad all at the same time. This music is REAL music. It can take me right back to the 'good old days' of my youth and a simple time I miss dearly. Thanks for this fabulous posting. xoxo.

  • My absolute favorite Carpenter's song. Beautiful!!!! LOVE the flute solo in the middle!

  • what a great person and a great song........RIP

  • Mike, Thanks once again for sharing and sending...foolishness never exists among friends....remember that!

We are all lost without Friends and they are usually there when no one else is....Thanks my friend!

    Bob

  • always loved her beautiful unique voice. Missed her.

  • I miss Karen everyday.... what true vocal prodigy she was. There wont be another Karen for 600 years!!

  • i like this song, not as much as the others, but its a cool song
