It was the same with fellow Black UK singer Seal. Seal's best material was from the 90s. His latest Seal IV (2003) was good although not as great and didn't sell as well as his first two albums in the 90s. It seems that artists who had their prime or started their careers in ther 80s and 90s end up being cut short in the new millenium either because their new material is not as great as their early stuff or because the industry is filled with with an image but no talent.

I think Des'ree is not alone in terms of what I like to call the "millenium album flop" period. Des'ree's best material in a commercial was in the 90s. The 90s was somewhat the best of times for music. Nowadays with so much lack of talent in music that's shining through the charts, it is not hard for someone like Des'ree or any other artist with talent to try to make a comeback on the charts.
