speaking of songs in this video, just the opening song still gets me excited, man o man o man do i miss racing pre-2001. Doesn't that get you guys excited? I used to count the hours to the next race.
i dont know the name of the song at 2:29 but ive heard that song before somewhere. i would like to know what it is because it sounds very cool. i want to download it. and i have no idea about the song at 3:40 either.
agreed, now ESPN is horrible at broadcasting. ESPN uses the same words over and over again: mojo, Sailing by (Punch says that) and umph which really drives me crazy. They should have Fox the first half of the season and TNT the other half.
love the theme song man why is ESPN's coverage so horrible these days. how can you go from being the best to being the worst. man that unbelievable its a damn shame and bob jenkins should get in the damn booth.
i like this pre-game coverage. short and to the point. maybe put pre-game to 30 minutes. get a few driver interviews and anthem and start the engines. that is the way to go on espn fox tnt and so on.
they need to play real theme music like this and fuck fox for changin there original theme for that fuckin shitty ass lets go racing theme. rule #1 in theme songs if it has singin its gonna suck ass. and darrel waltrip is too much of a fuckin goofball hes never serious like ken squier and bob jenkins were.
Ernde383 I agree ESPN needs to change. Lose Suzy and Brad, put Jerry Punch as a pit reporter and Allen Bestwick as the play by play guy. Rusty is ok, but Darrell Waltrip and Kyle Petty are way better.
You know what's weird, ESPN did partially what I suggested and got rid of Suzy and Brent and put Allen in the booth! Maybe they'll leave Doc. Punch on the Nationwdie broadcasts and bring Bob Jenkins over to cover Cup now that Champ Car re-merged with IRL. (Bob was doing Champ Car lap-by-lap for them last year).
Thanks 4 the post Battalion. I have only like half of this race on tape. Now i can enjoy the beginning and reflect how awesome nascar was at a time when the rules were changing and a legend was living his life at the fullest...one last year. (#3)
He WAS doing the Champ Car Series for ESPN, but now that they merged witht he IRL again, it'll either be Bob or Marty Reid doing lap-by-lap. Weird because they BOTH used to do NASCAR lap-by-lap for ESPN before 2001. Marty for the trucks and Bob for the Cup series.
That was too bad! He was definitely the best back then. Not taking anything away from Doc. Punch, but he had/has nothing on Bob Jenkins, IMO! Makes me wonder if the race would've been anymore exciting with Bob in the booth. I can STILL (without watching the video) here BP say, "...and here comes Earnhardt! How did he get THROUGH all those cars!?"
Man, ESPN needs to adjust their current broadcast for me to like it as much as I like the current FOX broadcast team. Get rid of Suzy, and Brent (annoying voice!). Put Allen in the infield studio with Brad. Make Doc. Punch Allens pit-road replacement, FIRE Rusty's ass! Replace him with DJ, and put Bob on play-by-play! Then I'll be happy! LOL.
I was looking through the comments for the 2000 Winston 500 Intro and one user said he was covering an IRL race at Texas Motorspeedway that weekend. Credit given to that user on You Tube
Ah, good ol' pre-Mickey Mouse ESPN.

Jenkins was in Texas for the IRL race that weekend. The USAR Hooters ProCup went to a playoff the next year (where NASCAR had their idea).

what happened to Bob Jenkins??
StewieGriffin1985 4 years ago 2
He is now a professor at an Indiana college I think.
He is also a cancer survivor and still broadcasts races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on the radio.

Check local listings. Usually a Saturday night or Sunday afternoon.

O5fan 4 years ago
Live races, folks.
IllinoisHighwayMan 4 years ago
Oh, lol. ESPN Classic was showing races Thursdays at 4 until recently, did they stop showing them altogether or move them to a different time?
O5fan 4 years ago
Bill Weber needed to stay on pit road, and never be put in the booth
