I hate original Tabasco (except for a few drops in clam chowder.) The chipotle and milder jalapeno sauces are delectable. I think Cholula and Tapatio are better than the original, but that's just an opinion in personal taste.

There's a commercial for McIlhenny's Tabasco Sauce airing now, where they have a singing quartet of sliced pepperoni faces (on a slice of pizza!) harmonzing the praises of Tabasco, and the slogan is along the lines of, "The Taste Is HOT". That's the difference between 45 years of advertising- from appealing to the average housewife to the "jock" using Tabasco in his dorm or apartment while watching a football or basketball game....so you were right, 'furbearingbrick'.

I didn't know there was actually a TV commercial for Tabasco sauce, for gosh sake! It's like "Pitch-In". There was a commercial that went along with that logo on trash cans, but the commercials aren't as well-known.

It was also a surprise hearing about people calling every hot sauce "tabasco" back then!

If anyone has seen the classic Little Rascals short "Birthday Blues," this is the exact same brand of tabasco that Dickie Moore puts on a sausage that he gives to Spanky. The sound effect that follows is the most impressive (and hysterical) sound effect in history, and it later shows up when the Rascals make the suprise birthday cake. Great stuff!

Of course, you couldn't produce such a "simple" commercial for Tabasco sauce these days...there'd have to be loud music, flashy graphics, and endless montages of the "cool" things you can do with it...and the music would have to be an adaptation of some "baby boomer" classic- say, "I Fought The Law" {"'I fought the heat and the... HEAT WON!!!' TABASCO...FEEL THE HEAT!"}. Too bad.
