after the 8 players on the 1994 NY OILER team broke up they all became regular players on the other teams they ran too. the OILERS were great together and average when no together as you can tell when messier led the rangers and canucks out of the playoffs for 7 straight years. graves did nothing after 1994 as a ranger and a shark. gretzky missed the playoffs twice in his 3 yr career in N.Y. --- GREAT TEAMS MAKE GREAT PLAYERS - GREAT PLAYERS DON'T MAKE GREAT TEAMS!

This was the greatest performance in NHL history as far as I'm concerned. Gretzky was great, folks, but he needed Messier to win. He couldn't win without Mark Messier. Messier, on the other hand, lead two different franchises to Cup titles without Gretzky, and this was his greatest accomplishment!

take away mcsorley and add randy gregg, craig muni and kevin mcclelland to that list. do your homework before trying to defend the made up great leader. messier was never known as a great leader untill the new york media hyped him up. if jagr would've won the cup in new york they would've done the exact same thing. jagr won cups with the great penguin team but like gretz and messier he went on to miss the playoffs and never lift the cup again after leaving pittsburg. great teams win cups!

it took scott stevens 13 YEARS to win a stanley cup...and he was a Devil for 3 yrs before he managed to win a cup with the Devils....the same time it took Messier to win a cup with the Rangers...
and scott stevens couldnt win a stanley cup without having Brodeur & the famous "neutral zone trap" helping him out.

Oddly enough my favorite playoff memory wasnt 94, it was in 97 when the Devils were the No1 seed & the Rangers were the No 8 seed & Graves (who played on the Red Wings longer than he played on the Oilers) outmuscled the Devils best defensemen Stevens & beat Brodeur on the wraparound AGAIN to knock the "No 1 Devils" out of the playoffs in the 1st round.
