you dont loosen your grip.. you clearly have never played a decent drop shot in your life. Stop being an insult to real tennis players and learn something
Yeah, this guy doesn't know what he is talking about. I'm sorry but you're wrong expertvillage. The drop shot isn't a big scoop of ice cream like you did. You ended up putting a lot of spin on the ball and it went up so high that it looked like a lob. The opponent can easily get to the ball, therefore consequentially making the drop shot a fail shot, and a loser shot. You must have great touch like Federer has. Look at Federers' drop shot in slow motion, it's completely different than this.
the BH dropshot from the baseline is super easy, its not really that tricky just take your opponents topspin and hit it back slicing it the ball just doubles the backspin and pretty much floats and drops over the cord (atleast thats what it does for me)
@NolittleE No you are right! Eastern, semi western grips etc are used. You'll see Rafa hitting withthe extreme western grip when he's hitting the topspin forehand, the western helps add loads more spin when you hit up on the back of the ball, this makes his shots more consistent, allowing him to grind down opponents in rallies. But if you look at Federer you'll see he uses the continental grip since he's a more aggressive player and wants to hit flatter shots! Hope that helps =)
@theaceman888 3rd at sectionals last year, yeah i dont even know what tennis is. and any non-overweight player can move to the net in seconds. my point was I was making fun of his wording, not suggesting i dont know the difference between the baseline and net. this video isnt very good, and if im a dickhead for thinking that then im sorry il try to pretend i got something out of this.
I don't know what's the worser explanation and demonstration of the drop shot. You guys should check out the other "expert village" drop shot video, at /watch?v=jcCvNhaF6dI
Does expert village go out of their way to make videos that are as uninformative as possible? Scooping ice cream? Seriously? That shot from the baseline looked more like a lob than a drop.
@Naruto0519 When I went to your profile to see the videos of you hitting better drop-shots, all I saw was a little fat Chinese boy singing on webcam. Can you please tell me where you uploaded a video of you being awesome?
If i see him take his racquet back like that from the baseline, I know he's gonna hit a dropshot, I simply come on and hit a winner out of it.
If you want to use the dropshot succesfully you gotta camouflage it, pretend like you're gonna hit anordinary forehand or backhand and then quickly change grip and hit the dropper
he's pretty fluent in his speech so it's likely that he's a real pro. if you talk about something you don't really know, you won't be able to do so well. unless if you're from hollywood.

can't wait ti start playing tennis ^__^ been watching too much prince of tennis.. ehehehehe my fav shot through out the whole PoT anime is Tezuka's Zero Shiki Drop Shot xD
yeahh haha thats why i started and now im #3 in my school. it takes ALOT of practice but once you become consistant its really fun. it took me about a year of playing everyday 3-5 hours a day to get where i am now! (btw alot of the prince of tennis stuff isn't really possible lol)
@xXKuroiHoshiXx I'm a fan of swallow return myself. My dad used to hit a shot just like it when he was in high school. Really want to learn it myself but man is it hard.
first of all, the first one with almost letting go of your grip and drop your wrist. imagine trying to hold your racket when some one is driving a hard ball at you, 2 things will happen. 1 you lose your racket, 2 you break your wrist. regardless of where you are, the most important thing is touch! All you have to do is go at an angle from high to low and caress the ball. It's hard to do it the first time, need a lot of practice.
what the hell dude dont tell the people too scoop under the ball thats like putting the ball up in there strike zone to hit a winner do everything he says except scoop under it. if you try what he said for a drop shot at baseline and your beggining tennis it will not work
lol that doesnt even look like a drop volley. most vollies are what he just showed you kind of just punch at the ball but just barley to hit a volley. hitting a drop volley its like hitting a drop shot retartd

I didn't realize players use the continental grip for groundstrokes. I thought Eastern and western and their variations were used.

@AznShadowLuk No, a volley is a shot hit before the ball bounces. So a drop volley is just a drop shot hit before the ball bounces.

it can be used after a big topspin which your oponnent can only hit far behind the baseline.
It can also be used against players who are really weak at volley.
