  • This is how NOT patronizing his is to pop ballads, Ive loved John McCormack for years, and, until today, I thought he was an irish ballad and pop ballad singer! His I Hear you Calling Me from 1918 is a perfect recording. As another listener said, indeed, he doesnt bellow to remind you hes an opera star. There are touches of his beautiful operatic tenor here and there in his ballads and popular songs, perfectly modulated and wonderful.

  • My favorite McCormack--thanks.

  • I only wish I could have seen Mr. McCormack in concert :)

  • This makes me remember when I was a very little boy back in the late 1930s. My other loved John McCormack's tenor voice and she would play his old 12-in recordings. "Ave Maria' by McCormack was her favorite.

  • A perfect example of topclass crossover. He sings this with no hint of being patronising.Just perfect diction and wonderful melodic line. As an allrounder McCormack was beyond compare.

And he doesn't BELLOW to remind us he's an opera star.

  • @bobparis Good point! This is absolutely beautiful - some of today's opera stars who do cross over could learn a lot from Count John McCormack ;)
