i think alot of people suffers from depression do to the lack of vitamin D. people who live further from the equater tend to be vitamin D deficient. check your vitamin levels stay natural with your intakes. try to get some sunlight when it's available. don't run to the docter for every little issue. do research on what your real consumption of vitamin D should be you would be surprised what your lacking. most multivitamins only have 400 IU. we should have about 10 000 IU in a weeks span.

Even when prozac applied for new patent it was on the fact (written in their own patent request) that Prozac R will not cause the usual side effects of suicide thoughts and attempts. Is the 17% an absolute figure or a relative figure or dont you know. I am a doctor and know that most ssri drugs do more harm than good and their are a lot of other ways to treat depression> which is not from a lack of drugs.

I've always stayed away from anti'd's but you still have to deal with the depression I just didnt want to be dependant on them and of course side effects could make depression worse in some. There are alternatives that do help.

As usual, what they failed to tell you is that most depression can be beaten by taking a good multiple vitamin and mineral tablet high in B Vitamins. If that doesn't work, try taking 2 tablets per day. This often works in a day or two but if it doesn't don't quit. If it doesn't help, it doesn't hurt and may help with other health challenges.

its a danger to stop cold turkey on the drugs because it causes a fast chemical change in the brain that makes people kill themselves you have to gradually get off so your brain slowly comes back to normal chemical balance. you can also overdose on them if the drug is too high and the chemical is in toxic overload in your brain.

The work on some people. The problem is that drugs giants get more revenue from increasing their customer base than developing new cures. They care about money, not people, so they will push their products on people who don't need them.

Advertising and marketing is at fault not the drugs themselves. There's a minority who need the drugs, but drugs companies benefit too much from overselling them to people who don't. Drugs can be used for good or evil, we need to stop the evil and keep the good.

Word of advice...NEVER EVER TAKE any type of antidepressant. If you read the insert on any of these drugs...the first thing you will read is mechanism of action: UNKNOWN.

It is all based on conjecture and there are absolutely no peer reviewed research articles that definitively link depression to low serotonin, dopamine or noradrenaline in the brain. One of the most common side affects is Insomnia with these drugs...that side affect alone can lead to serious health and depression issues.

SSRI's often cause permanent changes to the number of Serotonin receptors at the post synaptic membrane. Your works by RE-UPTAKING ( RE-USING) Serotonin. When you take an SSRI it prevents your brain from RE-USING the Serotonin at the post-synapse. The result is a drastic and often permanent decline in the number of Serotonin post synaptic receptors. If you get of the SSRI...even if Serotonin goes to normal levels...you will not be able to utilize it due to the low receptor levels.

Don't take SSRI'S! I was prescribed Prozac and I did my research and was scared as hell to ingest it. Thank God, I wised up, and went on Flax oil, B vitamins, fish oil, and exercise.
