^ Actualy Soundgarden were signed to a major label before Nirvana and all of them.

Nirvana and Pearl Jam really popularized grunge, But Soundgarden and others were key factors in the sound of it.

Bleach was definitely grunge, have you even heard it?!, Pearl jam, soundgarden and alice in chains sound nothing like nirvana anyway (or each other for that matter!) grunge just basically meant that they were loud and came from Seattle, and Kurt had more songwriting talent than you'll ever have, so shut it! Nirvana define grunge!
