  • james is not fuckin usin only five frets retards !!! he use 5 chords on evry fuckin ballad which he writes ... fade to black , unforgiven, the day that never comes...

James guitar round is with the sounds of : ... A,C,G,E,D this chords he uses mostly ...

  • Dam... wish Bob Rock was there for Death Magnetic...

    They needed some management.

As far as I understand, Rick Rubin was only like "fine by me, do it, yeah, great". :P

  • 2:23 Hetfield's chipmunk face lol

  • 0:21 the girl you blew the night before

  • Garage is just a bunch of cover songs, but they rock even more than the originals.

  • I always thought Turn The Page was one of the best songs on Garage Inc.

  • 1:02 - love this moment <3 amazing riff

  • Good tones??? They have have probably one of the worst over processed guitar tones on there most of their albums.

  • @Coonetta Bitch, are you retarded.

  • @MrCherryKush you think "and justice for all" was good guitar tones? Oh bye the way, tell your mother to drain her tuna hole cause I am going there tonite for fuck her bearded axe wound..... Then I am off to your sisters to diddle her whiskerditch.

  • @Coonetta It was... It's unique. Better than a lot of tones today.

  • 0:14 gotta love them

  • what exact model guitar i he using?

  • @metalmaniac426 ken lawrence explorer

  • How can people say they only veiw James a the vocalist? WTF, he is the most recognized rythm player. period.

  • My opinion is that James is the best rhythm guitar player ever. I'm sure he can shred too - in fact there are some videos with him playing lead guitar.

The thing si that people think of him as "the Metallica's vocalist" and they don't give him enough credit for his guitar work. He did all the rhythm work, harmony guitars and even some solos, while Kirk recorded only the solos. What you hear on the rhythm sections of each Metallica songs is acctually James, no Kirk at all.

  • its all in those emg pickups...

  • at first i thought it was a guy who looked like james but then i saw bob rock aha

  • my fucking god what a beutiful guitar!

  • He fucking feels the music.

  • i love james!!!!!!

  • seeing metallica play live on the Wherever I May Roam Tour when I was about half the age I am now made me wanna pick up a guitar

  • 1:43 so much passion on it...

  • @Golfinnder no he's trying to shake of a bug

  • 19 dumbasses, who dislike it? WTF is wrong with you?

  • I liked Garage Inc quite a bit, the second disk more than the first one...I enjoyed it.

  • U guys know how he had a Hot Wheel's Cap?

Cause in the game of Hot Wheels theres Metallica song in the entrance =Fuel !

  • @bliztrieg yes....hot wheels turbo racing

  • man james went from the punk/metal look to the Nascar/biker look then to the

Cowboy then to the 50s retro look lol

  • personally i think hes better than kirk but kirks still really good

  • He is the best of all time in every ways! ♥♥

  • The best rhythm player of all time

  • i got a bass guitar made out of that same kind of wood

  • james can always pull out the best riffs and hes always got the coolest gotees

hes always gonna be one of the best guitar player he can be till the day he retires which i hope never happens

  • fuckin love that guitar..... ken lawerence explorer custom

  • what amps does kirk and james use anyway?

  • @gentleman92596 They used to be big on Marshall but when I saw them they were using Line 6. They also went through a Valve and Mesa Boogie phase.

  • @Ruskiedann metallica run on this setup - marshall heads and mesa heads for james, with a custom board full of line 6 effects, for kirk its a couple of modded mesa heads and kirks signature randall amp, all run through there st. anger custom mesa cabs. some amazing tone from such a great setup.

  • what DVD is this?

  • @MrMrkfuk It was on a limited edition release with a single. It was called electronic press kit with one of the singles from Garage Inc. cant remember which one. It was before alot of other bands started doing it

  • @MrMrkfuk

It's from the Garage Days press release DVD kit.

  • hrmm that's an Ibanez TS9 @ 2:15 if I'm not mistaken? : D

  • STOP WRITING ON THE SCREEN

  • he play turn the page ;p

  • whats the song called hes playing?

  • @mightymightable the song is called ´´turn the page´´

  • James looks like a red neck with that hat LOL metallica went bad after the load and reload albums

and justice for all... best album ever!!!!!!!!

  • who's MJ? o.o dont tell me.. ok tell me

  • Michael Jackson ? :L

  • @obsessivemusician Its his Explorer. :)

  • Does anyone know what kinda guitar james is using in this video? one more thing, how is he playing the chords? he plays them different then i thought

  • It`s an Explorer!

  • @obsessivemusician

    its a ken lawrence guitar

  • his guitar is a custom made lawrence.killer guitars he owns two of them

  • It's a Ken Lawrence Explorer guitar, not his usual ESP EXP he always use

  • @zodiacxkiller

    wrong

  • looks like some custom explorer. the chords are all regular open chords and power chords.

  • @obsessivemusician

    ken ;awrence guitar

    awesome custom guitar

  • Lol at 2:21

Its like he likes it, but he doesn't

  • Todellaki :D

  • suchh an underrated guitarist

  • I always felt he was the best in my opinion.

People always say "not even close" but how many other guitar players could become that succesful playing various types of music with feeling other then just using the first five frets.

  • @BillyxRattlehead ...agreed. Love em or hate em, Metallica did shape and influence a lot of things in heavier rock and metal, just like great bands that influenced them (Black Sabbath, The Misfits, Thin Lizzy, Motorhead). James is pretty much the crutch of Metallica in my opinion though, without his lyrics and awesome lead guitar rythyms, I'm not sure there would be enough glue there for the rest of the band to ever function correctly.

  • @ptschafer: + Lars ofc.. who puts the pieces together so the whole song sounds the best it can.

  • I agree. I also think that Lars brings a lot to the table when it comes to arranging songs and really bringing out the final product. James is a rock legend though that's for sure

  • Comment removed

  • @BillyxRattlehead

Oddly enough, I think Hetfield is overrated. He's always praised so much about how fast his downpicking hand is and how he can play and sing at the same time. I always hear praise for him and criticism of Kirk.

  • @Hooah1984 Downpicking as fast as him is very hard to do. Not a lot of guitarist can do it WITHOUT VOCALS let alone doing it both at the same time. I think he deserves the praise. Kirk is always criticized because he always uses his Wah-Wah Pedal for solos. Not to mention people hate him because he replaced Dave Mustaine who is one of the best Guitarists of all time.

  • @mudkiprules4 i love wah wah too...

  • @BillyxRattlehead He even wrote most of their music

  • @BillyxRattlehead He is definitely the best rhythm guitarist of all time

  • @BillyxRattlehead

    funny

i saw a live perfomance of dream theater on youtube

they were playing master of puppets,

john petrucci couldn't downpick the second riff of the song towards the end, he had to alternate pick it lol

james is one of the best if not THE best downpicker in the world

  • @strikeout1991 im sure he can play it downpicked...but its not his style...even i can downpick all master of puppets... but i agree with you james is an awesome guitar player

  • @BillyxRattlehead I agree, He may not be king shred, but as a rhythm guitarist he took heavy metal to a new level

  • @yotboy3 agreed.he made me wanna start playin guitar.

  • @BillyxRattlehead

    One of the best.

Don't forget, that there are too many great guitarists, to pick the best.

  • @BillyxRattlehead Actually most of James riffs use just first five frets, he's a vocalist after all too.

  • his down strokes were the original lol

  • your right man how he can sing to some of the metallica songs let alone play them is insane

  • @emgrocks92 hahahahahahahahahhaaaaa

you're joking right? I mean.... seriously, every person who's heard of Metallica, knows what a great guitarist he is. James has been praised in all the best rhythm guitar rankings that I've read in my life.

  • @emgrocks92 Underrated... not sure kid

  • @emgrocks92 I get annoyed when Kirk always makes the list.Don't get me wrong, Kirk is way better than alot of people give him credit for but it takes alot more inside to write and play the songs MetallicA have made.

  • @emgrocks92 hetfield?underrated?

  • @emgrocks92 if he was under-rated he wouldnt have his own signature guitar and be considered one of the greatest rhythm players in the world

  • @emgrocks92 Bullshit, he has been called the best rythm guitarist by maaaany people

  • @KingOfParrots For a good reason.

  • @MasterofKnees Yes ofc, still not underrated :)

  • Comment removed

  • That's a Ken Lawrence custom Explorer Het's got. Should run ya about 7 grand.

  • whats the song at 0:58 ?

    its cool

  • "turn the page"

its off the garage inc album

its a cover for a band i cba to remember or look up the name of aha

  • ok

    thanks guy!

    it´s a really good song!

    :)

    MetallicA rules!!

  • The Band is Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band

  • It's a Bob Seger song. Not sure if it was just Bob solo or with the Silver Bullet Band, though.

  • Bob Seger...

  • turn the page...

  • Its the same song all the way. Turn the page is it called

  • turn the page.originally a bob seger song.

  • I fucking hate Bob Rock. Great tone though.

  • nice hot wheels hat. lol

  • i love it. it's a great song.

    badass guitar

  • I love this kind of footage, I could I watch this stuff all day. I wish they would release a DVD set with all the recording sessions from the prevoius albums, that would be kick ass!

  • killer tone

  • did he actually sing "the girl you BLEW the night before"? :P haha he really does love pussy like a maniac

  • nah he says Knew xD and he didn't write the lyrics xD

  • nope, he said BLEW, clearly, listen to it attentively.

  • and pedal used was a ibanez tubescreamer? 2:17

  • 2:16 even

  • No they need flemming rasmussen

  • agreed

  • it was randy who did all the mixing! bob too most of the credit for it.

  • took*

  • Oh yeah, because he really got them far.

  • They became the biggest metal band ever under his production. Sure, St. Anger sucked, but Load and The Black album are kickass albums, and ReLoad is solid too.

Or they could just bring in whoever mixed these albums, and get Rick Rubin to stay the hell away from the actual sound quality.

  • It was Bob Rocks idea to change their style though... which pissed a lot of fans off. Not me of course because I was just a little kid during that time. I like the black album, Load and ReLoad... but Rick Rubin turned them around back to their old style (kind of).

  • whith a shity production... Bob Rock did a real good job (exept the drum in St angers), I just want to see metallica make a good trash album with him

  • Tried to turn them back. It only happened on Day that never comes". Which is a perfect title for the situation they are in musically. And Bob Rock is satan to most any fan who has listened to them since they were good. I hate you Bob Rock. No true fan has anything but contempt for the guy. How can anyone can compare the garbage after Justice to anything like Ride or Master. RIP CB.

  • I think that the entire Death Magnetic album is ten steps ahead of anything they wrote in the 90's. But a true fan wouldn't hate on Bob Rock or their 90's music. A true fan understands. A true fan Enjoys all music Metallica makes.

  • Bob Rock weaseled himself into a higher production position because Jaymz was in rehab for half of the duration, he burrowed himself so far beneath the skin of Metallica that it took them until 2008 to rid themslves of that parasite. And no, a true fan doesnt enjoy seeing the name of Metallica turned green by lackluster attempts at gaining what they lost years ago. Imagine erasing Kill, Ride, Mater, 5.98 EP, And Justice. You would leave a mismosh of sub par MTV drivel. RIP CB.

  • It really depends on how you look at Metallica's career dude. You obviously look at it as "selling out" and going mainstreamed and whatnot. I look at their career as changing their style to get a wider fan base... and it failed. They lost their old fans but gained new ones. But there still are some die hard fans like me that dont give a shit if they changed. It's still music.

  • QUOTE: changing their style to get a wider fan base... and it failed.

    I'd say that's selling out.

The die hard fans are not listening to post Justice Metallica, I can assure you.

    CHeers.

  • If you consider that selling out, you might as well call every band on the face of this motherfucking planet a sell out.

  • Dude I've been a die hard fan for a long time. Stuck by them through all the sell out talk and the Load and Reload and all that crap. I still listen to both of those albums because I am a die hard fan, and all the others. KyleJPie10 is right. Everyone who gets radio play, sells albums in store, or online is a sellout. They changed for themselves not the fans.

  • I dont care what venue used to get your music out there, I just hate the fact that their songs now sound like something pieced together from fans who won the contest "Get to write your very own Metallica song" Release another Ride the lightning quality album and you can play it at the grocery for all I care.

  • I hear what your saying. DM is a good start though.

  • its all bob rocks fault

  • you mean they are not sell outs?

when you change because thats the way you are wanting to take your music thats not selling out. it is like when kiss did disco. if you change not because you want to but for the fame and money, THATS selling out.

im assuming you just did a typo considering all your talk about being a diehard fan.

  • They did it for themselves dude, they lost a lot of fans because they changed there sound. I would think if the wanted the level of fame they were used to they might have stayed on track with the heavier stuff.

Fact is Bob Rock helped to push them to change, he wanted more mainstream, more radio(which means more money for him). I really don't think losing fans from the get go is what they would consider fame.

P.S. they make money because it's there job. Capitalism is great.

  • wow. you said an awful lot with no real point. like edgar allen poe, really, but with really bad spelling.

  • I don't think you have a clue about any of this. If your just trying to argue go somewhere else.

  • whatever dude. im not trying to start an argument. im tired of youtube fights. so long as everyone here understands metallica did not sell out.

  • Dude that's what I've been saying. I've been on here forever trying to convince people they didn't sell out. I'm glad we finally understand each other.

  • hhmkay. im glad we've come to this point because all your messages make it look like you were calling them sellouts.

  • Hot Wheels and Harley Davidson :D just awesome!

  • hot wheels lol

  • But the rest is nice and it sounds great :D
