@kayshkorn thanks for your insightful and relevant comment! I really appreciate it when strong, black women like you bring ign'ant realness to a tongue-in-cheek post and make people feel bad for something like their sexuality or the sound of their voice. Congratulations, you really "read" me good, sistah friend. I really love all YOUR videos upon reviewing your YouTube account. Big White Women Butt... OMG LOL that's so novel and original.
@aegetheus Seriously? I think kayshkorn's comment was funny. Why do you ppl take such offense? The sensitivity level is too liberal. Put down those guards and take something else for a change -- like a joke! ha. ha. funny? Geez! Your comment is subliminally racist and prejudiced. But I think you were going for sarcastically poignant. Fail.
I was impressed with this beautiful movie. Kathy Bates made this film - absolutely brilliant performance. She should have won the Oscar or at least being nominated for this award. Jennifer Jason Leigh and Judy Parfitt were stunning as well.
Fantastic movie based on a book by genius Stephen King.
Classic scene; one of the most memorable from the entire film. Loves it! I've quoted Vera many times over the years when offering advice to distraught friends... Even if they don't transform themselves into "bitches" they always smile when hearing that line.
I think there was a point in my life where I did watch this every day; this or some other Kathy Bates movie (incl. Misery, Fried Green Tomatoes, etc.). I had recorded the audio track where Annie Wilkes storms into Paul Sheldon's room and accuses him of "murdering [her] Misery," then smashes a chair over his hospital bed and calls him a "dirty bird." Classic.
There was a time I watched Dolores Claiborne and The Hours at least once per day. Two great movies! I love Kathy Bates. She is such a talented actress -- I have to admit I prefer her in drama rather than comedy though. Have you seen her in "The War at Home"? Another powerhouse performance!
One of the most memorable characters in a dramatic role. Vera Donovan was simply way before her time. Her insight and upfront nature of what advantages can be gained from a woman's precarious position ring true without apology
Kudos to you. And if you're heterosexual...double kudos! I long to have a drawing room like Vera, and in it people can address me by my Christian name. Where is my china pig?
Thanks for the kudos. Drawing rooms and china pigs are a sort of kitsch aspect Vera has going for her that I love. Why should it be "double kudos... if [I'm] heterosexual" (which I'm not)? It doesn't really make you a better actor if you're straight and are able to perform a gay role, does it? I think it only makes you a bad actor if you can't.
You were a queen long before you saw this movie, honey -- that lispy voice is all you gotta hear.

Interesting that Vera seems to be confessing murdering her own, cheating husband. Loved the "high riding bitch" phrase. What a movie!!

This is one of my favourite lines from a movie and so true "sometimes being a bitch is ALL a woman has to hang onto" indeed.

Those stone cold blue eyes of hers are absolutely chilling.

Absolutely. Judy Parfitt was perfect for that role.

I totally agree with you, you high riding bitch!
I'm always at my best as Marilyn Monroe on every Halloween!

Thanks, Bobbie and Steve. Us High Riding Bitches (i.e. the Gays) have to stick together these days.

My favorite line of the whole movie was, "Now look mister grand poobah from uppaa butt crack"
Now that's a classic and Dolores Claiborne was THE high riding bitch of the movie!
