Blowtorching hair off of elephants? I know humans do some painful things to rid themselves of body hair but I've never heard of using a blowtorch. If blowtorches start appearing in the personal care section of the store for hair removal, I dunno. Elephants don't even have much body hair so why remove it? Just let the elephants be elephants. Let all the animals be themselves. Put them in a wild animal park or someplace more natural for them. This sucks.

I have been trying to get our local "community organizations" in Highlands Ranch Colorado which invite C&B to town to not do it anymore. HRCA director Jamie Noelle dismissed the video as fake and insinuated I was just some kook who had been sending them the same message for ten years. They refused to look at the USDA complaints authenticating the video as real. C&B is now taking the tact with prospective clients denying this is them saying it's another circus even after the USDA complaint.

Anyone who has stood in on a training session or even been to a show can clearly see the way the elephants and tigers are commanded about with the bullhooks, whips, and more. Progressive zoos and sanctuaries which keep large animals do not use these torturous tools, but rather positive reinforcement, which is what Ringling should also attempt to use!

@circusboy90210 Breeding elephants in captivity may be 'better' than capturing them from the wild, but "training" them via these methods - involving harsh beatings with the bullhook, electrical shock prods, extended hours of being chained, etc - are still wrong. Just because the elephants weren't from the wild doesn't mean they should be treated like any less of a wild animal. They deserve respect and admiration.

(captive born still have the wild instinct, it takes a long time to breed this out of them> how we got dogs.) also this is not a video of a ringling facility. .

Why is Ringling Brothers even mentioned on this brutal video?? This so called animal trainer should have his balls cut off and locked in a cold box and see how well he enjoys it....no animal should ever be trained or handled in such ways....however, as far as Ringling Brothers go, I have yet to see any evidence that they treat animals the same. For this reason I believe PETA is also full of crap and desperate for attention by tagging Ringling Brothers to such a cruel video.
You can check out many other sources than PETA for this information, if you're still interested. Unfortunately, these brutal 'training' sessions are mere standards in the animal entertainment industry. Few laws exist to protect these intelligent, social beings and even fewer are actually enforced. Ringling, though, has pages and pages of lawsuits and fines from the USDA against them for animal abuse. I used to enjoy the circus, but can never support them now that I've seen this.

One elephant actually gets wild during a show, and cops just shot it. So much for going after its trainer. Humans are so fucked up when it comes to animals, so much torture is going on.
While this man is obviously a fiend, we also have to realize that animals' thresholds for pain are much different from ours. When I used to work on the farm, we would occasionally have to wake up a sleeping cow, to move it into a barn. The only way to get a cow to even wake up is to use a shovel or metal object and "thunk" the cow until it woke up! Allegedly, elephants have such tough skin, that you can blowtorch the hair off, without the animal even noticing. Their skin is over an inch thick!

Also, most of the audio that does exist on the video has been deemed fake in the Federal Court of Law. Finally, elephant skin is so incredibly tough! Have you even fallen while wearing a regular leather jacket? You can take quite a tumble without being hurt at all! That illustrates the toughness of bovine skin, and an elephants skin is many many times thicker!

Blowtorching hair off of elephants? I know humans do some painful things to rid themselves of body hair but I've never heard of using a blowtorch. If blowtorches start appearing in the personal care section of the store for hair removal, I dunno. Elephants don't even have much body hair so why remove it? Just let the elephants be elephants. This is sick. What happened to using positive reinforcement? Negative reinforcement doesn't work on animals or people. This is just humans bullying animals into conforming. Humans also bully other humans into confroming & are cruel when people are different. Nobody should be forced to do something or to be something they aren't. Some animals enjoy performing but no animal or person enjoys being abused. The animals aren't even doing anything wrong! That trainer needs psychiatric help.

I have been trying to get our local "community organizations" in Highlands Ranch Colorado which invite C&B to town to not do it anymore. HRCA director Jamie Noelle dismissed the video as fake and insinuated I was just some kook who had been sending them the same message for ten years. They refused to look at the USDA complaints authenticating the video as real. C&B is now taking the tact with prospective clients denying this is them saying it's another circus even after the USDA complaint.

@circusboy90210 While this footage is shot at Carson and Barnes, it is routine treatment of these animals. Anyone who has stood in on a training session or even been to a show can clearly see the way the elephants and tigers are commanded about with the bullhooks, whips, and more. Progressive zoos and sanctuaries which keep large animals do not use these torturous tools, but rather positive reinforcement, which is what Ringling should also attempt to use!

Carson and Barnes' winter quarters are in Hugo, Oklahoma, but they were originally from Sarasota, FL, after being founded by the Miller family, beginning as a mere dog-and-pony show. History aside, animal treatment should always be first and foremost. I realize a few trainer may love their animals but as evidenced in more videos than just this, it is clear that many handlers are not as "kind" as they should be to these intelligent animals, who are generally willing to cooperate.

@circusboy90210 Breeding elephants in captivity may be 'better' than capturing them from the wild, but "training" them via these methods - involving harsh beatings with the bullhook, electrical shock prods, extended hours of being chained, etc - are still wrong. Just because the elephants weren't from the wild doesn't mean they should be treated like any less of a wild animal. They deserve respect and admiration.

Unfortunately, these brutal 'training' sessions are mere standards in the animal entertainment industry. Few laws exist to protect these intelligent, social beings and even fewer are actually enforced. Ringling, though, has pages and pages of lawsuits and fines from the USDA against them for animal abuse. I used to enjoy the circus, but can never support them now that I've seen this.

While this man is obviously a fiend, we also have to realize that animals' thresholds for pain are much different from ours. When I used to work on the farm, we would occasionally have to wake up a sleeping cow, to move it into a barn. The only way to get a cow to even wake up is to use a shovel or metal object and "thunk" the cow until it woke up! Allegedly, elephants have such tough skin, that you can blowtorch the hair off, without the animal even noticing. Their skin is over an inch thick!

Also, most of the audio that does exist on the video has been deemed fake in the Federal Court of Law. Finally, elephant skin is so incredibly tough! Have you even fallen while wearing a regular leather jacket? You can take quite a tumble without being hurt at all! That illustrates the toughness of bovine skin, and an elephants skin is many many times thicker!

My wife wanted to go to a circus a couple weeks ago. She loves all animals but she is like so many other stupid humans that does not understand the animal cruelty that it takes to put on a circus. However, I would go to a circus made up of humans that have been conviced of animal cruelty. NOW THAT WOULD BE FUN TO WATCH!
