I had the privilege of seeing him play for fulham once, against (my team, ahem) crystal palace.3-2 to fulham, he scored one of them. no matter which team he played for, against whichever opponent, he was still 'george best' - the greatest player there has been.
Super goal. There have however been better goals because they were scored against better sides. Giggs' goal against Arsenal in the '99 FA Cup Semi-Final or Maradona's incredible goal against England in '86 are just as good, if not better, than this one stylistically, but they were scored against far tougher opponents. Yet, this one by Best is still a very good goal indeed - I just don't think it warrants the title 'Best goal ever'.
@ElFitzo16 Its not actually. I live in East Belfast and if you check the map you will quite clearly find its in the black line of the map that seperates the two countries of Northern Ireland with that Republic of Ireland. Also, my British passport, My God Save the Queen, My BBC, My pound, My British Flag all say otherwise that this is infact not ireland.
@RemyVEVO haha i know was a rhetorical question but without a doubt Pelé is the King, cuz if a have to qualified somebody just for a short period in a whole carreer, probably even Adriano could competite with Diego and in that case only Garrincha should be the best. Cheers
This goal came on July 22, 1981 against the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers. The defenders who Best beat were Ray Hudson (a Brit), Thomas Rongen (Dutch), Steve Ralbovsky (Yugoslav), Jon Pot (Dutch) and goalie Ken Fogarty (a Brit). So that's two Brits he humiliated in this short clip. And those retarded idiots come on this site mocking Yanks? LOL I guess basic logic isn't their forte. Half the NASL was comprised of drunken washed-up Brits.
@ScumLimeys At least we're not as arrogant to have a sport, play it in our own country and call it the World Series. Cuba could beat you anyway. And, my little Yankee mate, who wants to play a game where you dress up in a suit of armour and have 40 plus players most of who don't touch the ball?
So wind your neck in and change your name because you've got a chip on your shoulder.
@ScumLimeys Drunken washed up Brits? they were hardly drunken and washed up, they came to play in america because of the high salary that the managers were offering and it was the best thing that ever happened to an american sport.
why dont you yanks take a history lesson regarding britain. also this was best at the end of his footballing career. he would have been stopped at the first tackle in britain.
Haha, some of the comments here are so hypocritical. You Brits crack me up. First you say that Best scored much better goals against much better competition, then you go on to say that if this was against better competition, he would've been tackled, even though he made tougher competition look foolish too. Can't have your cake and eat it too ;)
@garethac81 How do YOU know no has done it? We don't have many videos from the MLS because it was a really poor league. I can reassure that americans are not that good at soccer. I used to make american defenses dance like a ballerina . My back got injured in college so I could not keep playing. The levels of football in other countries are so much higher than in the U.S. When I said I could have done it in a wheel chair I wasn't expecting you to take me serious. Better goals could i score
@KingDcome11 I think not. Don't get me wrong, the MLS is a poor league but that was true genius that few players could manage. That kind of control when space is tight is magical.
@Gfresh844 I agree that not everyone could have managed to do that. But in the MLS there are huge chances that many regular players will play like maradona or pele.
@KingDcome11 you are probably a young chap, who grew up hearing the names of Pele or Maradonna, Best was much better than both, anyone who saw him in action will know that, what he did to Benefica as a young player when he won the European cup for MU is football history.
@KingDcome11 sure you could, please post a video of your self scoring such a goal , even if the defence was made of your parents and grand parents i do not think so.

@negromanful thank you! tell that to HulmeBoy09 and TheDonCristal. they didnt seem to like my point. but hey they are the type who start name calling at the first sign of someone disagreeing with them, so they are probably not very bright.
Gary Lineker as good as George Best? Excuse me while I climb back up from the floor after I collapsed there in a fit of laughter. Even the most ardent Gary Lineker fan, and even Gary Lineker himself will admit that he's not in the same league as George Best. The closest England have had in the past 20 years is Paul Gascoigne.
George "Alagiah" Best was certainly a good footballer and a noted womaniser. What is less known is what a good cook he was. Long before the gnawing, egotistical Ramseys and Olivers of this world pretentiously picked up a pan and started barking about peas, Best had already collected 3 Michelin stars and a host of admirers around the world for his range of sauces (sadly now defunct after the recipe was burnt by the state), buns and ice magic, which he invented in a cellar in Gdansk in 1962.
I have had the privelage as well as the pleasure of seeing Best, Law and Charlton play with Man United. Living in London I did not follow any particular team, but never missed an opportunity to see Man. United whoever they were playing. I was not alone, half the population of London wanted to do the same thing. Very few teams, if any, before or since had that wondrous magnetic appeal. If they were not the best team ever, they were most certainly the most popular
@eDemocracyUK wht r u saying pele said tht? or.. cos id agree buthardly no internationals so.. pele 4 me but pele was lazy as and he had lots of average moments, George was was more of a worker if he playedmore better teams internationaly he'd b my pick.
I was actually at that game in SJ sitting with my soccer teammate up in the nose bleed section of Spartan Stadium. I literally had no words and was in complete awe at what I saw and that was coupled with goose bumps. Still remember being completely floored by that surrealistic experience. Just before his goal, Best was arguing with the ref and was really pissed off. You can see that he had words with the ref after the goal. This goal was in response to him being pissed off at the ref
@hasnainjackson Nah man, I´m watching this in 1983. WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK?! Can´t belive that a comment just like that is the highest rated on every damn video on Youtube...
I'm not gonna put any anti-yank comments or bitch about how old he was... or whatever, just.........what a fucking good goal! Best player to never play in a World Cup
i mean yeah its a good goal but in all reality this is a george best well past his peak and he is playing against players that would not get into our sunday league team.......................and its FOOTBALL!!!!
Hugo Sanchez , George Best , Alfredo Di Stefano , Zinedine Zidane , Diego Maradona , Pele. These legends are the best of all time. Its also a proof thats footballers where better in those days.
@g0d0faer0x Hugo Sanchez at this list??? Oh my god, he was just quite a good scorer, there've been hundreds better than Hugo. Even in recent times, Henry, Del Piero, Stoitchkov, any of the brazilians begginin' with "R"
People do not like that they put in this video, you do not understand anything about football... is an extraordinary goal!! it is not every day you see a player score a goal like that, no matter what the season is. Is simple fabulous.
@solenstyle Exactly, you're admitting that the US isn't putting all it's sporting resources into soccer. Which is essentially the reason the US needs to buy 2nd rate or aging players to improve the league, though it hasn't done the hugest success. If the US did fund on soccer, I sure the USMNT an the MLS would be better than it is. Though for a country with really no infrastructure, you can say they've done well for themselves.
@shxppxy Please tell me the most logical, scientific reasons with facts of why "American men" don't "have it in them" to play? WTF, if a squad with no youth training at ALL can beat countries like Spain (as you contrasted) and have about the same level as the English national team not "have it on them"? Again, WTF? I don't know what "have it in them" means, but I can tell you America's history athlete record-breakers can disprove by MILES of truth. Sorry, nice try but....you FAIL.
@pwntno0b "International sports" wasn't exactly the term I meant to say. Just look in the olympics and you'll see, also look at women's soccer. Clearly the women put all their resources into playing that sport and it's given them divinity. So now if the US funds youth academies (just began), let's see if the US will improve. See we have have "College Soccer" as our 'youth development'.....you can say we have handicaps because of that..
@MMAmachinhead92 If you knew anything about football, you'd realise that football ability is innate. You either have it or you don't. And American men don't. A friend of mine from Australia spent 4 years in a US academy, and as awesome as he really is at football, he and everyone at the academy will never play in anything above our less-than-average pro league. If English football academies are struggling to produce players at the same level as Spain, Brazil and Germany, the USA have no chance.
@Kyle136cc ....because you know Americans are trying so "hard" and using all their resources when it comes to soccer, right? Is there some sort of misconception when it comes to the popularity of soccer in the United States? Do you believe it's the #1 sport or priority in the country? Hmm, let answer: No. I think South American and Europeans should feel grateful that the US hasn't dominated soccer than same way they (we) dominate other international sports. Well have fun while it lasts..

andrewgnr85 5 months ago
I was actually at that game in SJ sitting with my soccer teammate up in the nose bleed section of Spartan Stadium. I literally had no words and was in complete awe at what I saw and that was coupled with goose bumps. Still remember being completely floored by that surrealistic experience. Just before his goal, Best was arguing with the ref and was really pissed off. You can see that he had words with the ref after the goal. This goal was in response to him being pissed off at the ref

the fact that it was against the San Jose Earthquakes, makes it not "the best goal ever."

Hugo Sanchez , George Best , Alfredo Di Stefano , Zinedine Zidane , Diego Maradona , Pele. These legends are the best of all time. Its also a proof thats footballers where better in those days.
g0d0faer0x 8 months ago
@g0d0faer0x Hugo Sanchez at this list??? Oh my god, he was just quite a good scorer, there've been hundreds better than Hugo. Even in recent times, Henry, Del Piero, Stoitchkov, any of the brazilians begginin' with "R"

1. George Best - Proved himself in what is the hardest league in the world
2. Pele - Just look at his record at Santos and for Brazil
3. Maradona - Look at career and look at what he did at Napoli

People do not like that they put in this video, you do not understand anything about football... is an extraordinary goal!! it is not every day you see a player score a goal like that, no matter what the season is. Is simple fabulous.
Filipe19143 8 months ago
maradona's goal is still better. thses are just a bunch of bums standin around that dont what they are doin.
crazygamer241 8 months ago

MMAmachinhead92 8 months ago
que golazo primera ves q lo veo creo q despues del de maradona el segundo mejor gol q e visto en mi vida
MultiEstalin 8 months ago
@pwntno0b "International sports" wasn't exactly the term I meant to say. Just look in the olympics and you'll see, also look at women's soccer. Clearly the women put all their resources into playing that sport and it's given them divinity. So now if the US funds youth academies (just began), let's see if the US will improve. See we have have "College Soccer" as our 'youth development'.....you can say we have handicaps because of that..
MMAmachinhead92 8 months ago
@MMAmachinhead92 If you knew anything about football, you'd realise that football ability is innate. You either have it or you don't. And American men don't. A friend of mine from Australia spent 4 years in a US academy, and as awesome as he really is at football, he and everyone at the academy will never play in anything above our less-than-average pro league. If English football academies are struggling to produce players at the same level as Spain, Brazil and Germany, the USA have no chance.
shxppxy 8 months ago
@Kyle136cc ....because you know Americans are trying so "hard" and using all their resources when it comes to soccer, right? Is there some sort of misconception when it comes to the popularity of soccer in the United States? Do you believe it's the #1 sport or priority in the country? Hmm, let answer: No. I think South American and Europeans should feel grateful that the US hasn't dominated soccer than same way they (we) dominate other international sports. Well have fun while it lasts..
MMAmachinhead92 8 months ago
'other international sports'? name them
