  • Possibly my favourite PP+M song of them all - and isn't she incredible?!

  • Wow -- Mary Travers is the freak'in "mom" mtRNA|DNA to Gisel Bündchen, among the recent decade's mega-top-dollar-paid fashions models ever...whereas, many contemporaneous critics et al narrow thinkers, discounted Mary's "strong looks" as, at best, a cruder version of the "Julie Christie school of peroxide-locks"; whereas, in retrospect--at least for newer generations--review of the ubber-graphical stagings, w/high-key lighting, proves my salient point. Not my type, but lookers all the same!

  • これっていつの動画なんだろう?誰か知っていたらおしえて~!!

  • @miyukin28

From BBC "Tonight in Person" - 1966

  • I love both versions of this song, but I like their newer one better, though I am sure it is called someone different. Either way, I am 15, I love this kind of musi; it has nothing about sex, drugs, whores, pimps, murder, or heart-break; it is all just feel-good music and fantastic sounding and THAT is real music to me.

  • Just a little bit of it can bring you up or down.

Like the supper it is cooking in your hometown.

it is chicken, it is eggs,

it is in between your legs.

it is walking on the moon,

    leaving your cocoon.

  • Was this the double LP that had "Rock My Soul," and "Take Me For a Ride in Your Car Car?" Do you have the lP, if it's the same one? I've hunted for it and not found it, and wish more of it were up on youtube.

  • @musicmandon1

You're thinking of "In Concert" I have that LP , cost me next-to-nothing and it sounds great!

But no, this song is not on there... that album does have some great, great tunes though!

  • Effortless, wonderful, perfect. PP&M. We miss you Mary. We miss the trio and what they stood for. And always will. md

  • im 14 and i have listend to this music since i was little i didnt know that other people didnt think it was cool till i got made fun of for it i just said they were stupid for not loving this music

  • I didn't believe in Angels until I first saw Mary.

  • I'm 14, and I get a lot of ridicule now for what I listen to, apparently it isn't "cool" or something. If this isn't cool, I don't know what it is. Besides, this is so much better quality than stuff now! Why do people have to get famous now for singing songs that are mostly autotuned? Or being on the front of Playboy or being a porn star or all that crap out there? Why can't we acknowlege raw talent anymore? That's why I listen to PP&M. They will live on in my memories forever. Love you, PP&M.

  • @startrekkin1701

I'm 15, and I know just how you feel. I like Peter Paul and Mary, Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, people my parents listened to when they were young. Music was so REAL back then. Mary Travers is such an amazing beautiful woman. I wish there were more like her. But hey, she's going to be amazing forever, and in a year or so, nobody's going to remember Rebecca Black and her friday song. Stay true to yourself sister, your not alone.

  • @kittykat4161 I'm 60, and I still feel the same way when I hear these songs. I used to play these (not as well as PP&M) to my kids when I put them to sleep at night, 30 years ago. They hold up well over time.

  • @startrekkin1701 Good for you! You obviously have something that your peers don't have...an innate sense of quality in music. Good music needs young people like you to keep traditions alive - whether it's folk, blues, or jazz. It's more than just being a "fan", whatever that means nowadays. It's recognizing true genius, and carrying the tradition forward....so don't let anyone make you feel "uncool". Without people like you, the REAL music wouldn't survive for future generations!

  • i am 53 years old and i have been litening to these guys since i was 8 years old..i still havent heard anyone to compare ...

  • Mary Travers was amazing. Love you Mary.. X

  • love these guys....love love love them!! makes me sad that there isn't much in music like them anymore. they are beautiful together. and Mary....she just feels the music, you can see it all over her!!

  • It looks like they were having a lot of fun singing together. Mind you, having rediscovered them via YT, I think they are great too!

  • Thanks for posting. . .PPM were the a transition from beatniks to hippies. . .

  • To my knowledge - yes

They worked so hard on their arrangements

  • To my knowledge - yes

  • I know Peter and Paul were Jewish. Was Mary also Jewish ?

  • @gendres1 Paul was raised Buddhist and converted to Catholicism

  • @gendres1 Peter Yarrow and Mary Travers are/were Jewish. Noel "Paul" Stookey is not Jewish.

  • Funny how the audience is not enthusiastic or smiling in the end. I guess at that time they didn't appreciate PP&M as fully as we do today.

  • She looks so happy doing her "cha cha"!

  • What in the heck is this song about??

  • @wyvernsc - Good question! I wonder, too.

  • They are Awsome

  • it's true, their performances were so impeccable, they sounded so incredible, and not that it matters, but they also were so great looking!! Just such an incredible group, I grew up hearing them but I wish I'd been born earlier so I could have gone to see them in concert during their heyday :) thanks so much for posting the video!

  • It was always Peter Paul and Mary in the limelight, with some lonely unrecognized bass man in the background, without whom the music would lack.

Hats off to one or more of them that accompanied them.

  • @tablloyd5

It was the same guy for 45 years... Richard Kniss. At their concerts they acknowledged him (well, at the one I saw anyhow..), something like 'if he'd joined a bit earlier we'd be Peter Paul and Mary and Richard'

  • @tablloyd5 i was also gona say that sometime :P LOLZPICKLES

  • i reckon theres not much to say

  • One of the best groups of all time.

  • One of the best groups of all time.

  • man this fingerpicking is hard to figure out.

  • @iammrchubbsful well, during the chorus (send thee 9 by 9 8 by 8 etc... peter just strums with a pick, and when it gets back to other part he catches pick under pointer finger and finger picks.. if you know the fingerpicking he does, please tell :P

  • @giraffeman3705

thanks for that info! i haven't had time to study this further but when i do ill get back to ya

  • My god this is good. I have never heard this before. No one does this style of music like they do. Like the other comment said, too bad we could not lock them into this place in time. Thank you for sharing this video. It is wonderful.

  • They look spectacular here. I wish they could have stayed just like this at this moment in time. Growing old and dying sucks. It's a fact of life, but it sucks. I'll always love these guys though. What a wonderful harmonious ensemble of talent these three were. And such wonderful music. I can't even listen to most of today's music. And I'm still a young guy.

  • Peter and Paul never make a mistake

  • What a Group! I love this song and i wish i was able to see them LIVE!

  • WOWWOWWOWWOW!!

  • Super set of folksongs...Hangman could use another verse....

  • NO one can top their harmonization :)

  • One word

    CLASS

  • beautiful song :D

  • Man did these 3 have it going on.

  • Those are the authentic and genuine smiles of people who are nailing, really nailing it, and loving the momentary magic of it.

  • Great performance !! Phalaïna

  • Great modern American folk.Fell in love with Mary Travers about this time. She fronted this group beautifully. Her lush, powerful contralto voice just washes over

    me.

  • damn, they had fun. thats singing!

  • MAGICAL HARMONY AND ENERGY...an American musical legacy!

  • Folk "purists" put P P & M down as "too commercial," as if spirituality is commercial (which it is becoming but never becoming.) As if P P & M did not pay 48 years together and did not a leave us a legacy of song, joy, enchantment.. As if they went to jail picketing for peace, mercy, and justice to some commercial end. I looked up to them as a child. I'm still looking up.

  • perfection

  • i remember singing this 20+ years ago in music class back in elementary but it wasn't this version it was much more upbeat and only a woman was on vocals

  • I adore Mary's voice. She's just such a fantastic counter balance to the quiet smoothness of Paul and Peter.

  • @nareyaword agree with you absolutely... two nerdy looking 'brainiacs' and a sultry blond.. the magic too, throughout their extensive careers, was in their authenticity and integrity as citizens and artists.

  • what melodic singing...beautiful storytellers !!!

  • wow, beautiful.

  • God rest you, Mary! There'll never be another!!!

  • good music plain techinnical and simple

  • they were the real deal.

  • PPM....Super Folksingers...THE BEST...jmr

  • PPM...they are the best folk singer...SUPER....

  • superb!

  • WOW!

  • They all certainly seem to be enjoying themselves with this performance....such talent....Mary will be missed.

  • RIP Mary!

    You are so beautiful!

  • No pretensions, no gimmicks, just pure talent!

  • definitely amazing sound

  • what a difference to todays 'artists'! Beautiful dress, suits and ties, perfectly groomed hair, beautiful harmonies, perfect control and NO screaming, loud jarring sound, scruffy hair, torn jeans and tees with lewd word!

    Bring back the 60's!

  • It's really brilliant how they harmonize the singing, instrumentation, body movements, and funny noises.

  • It just doesn't get any better than this . . .

  • 80 never a truer word spoken

  • Unbelievably Timeless.

  • i feel so stuck in the past, but in the best way and god am i proud to say i listen to stuff like this insted of the lame dramatic stuff (in my opinion, of course) of today! =D

  • Who's the author of this song?

  • Wo finde ich bloß den songtext zu diesem song :(

    hammer geiles lied

    :))))

  • @KidDeLuka

    hab ihn dir geschickt

  • Kingston Trio also does a very good version of this.. but this is beautiful.

  • Mary's whole body was a celestial instrument. Watch it move as she sings.

  • @electricslipper

Oh boy, did you ever hit the nail on the head!

  • @electricslipper i'd hit it!

  • This is the definition of good music. A reference to be used by other musicians.

  • This wasn't one of their most well known, but one of my all time favorites of theirs. I got the album (record) this was on for Christmas when I was 12. I can't say that I've ever heard another group do this song, and probably never hear as good a version.

  • Infused is a great word to attache to Mary. Kudos to BBC for their excellent audio and camera work. Mary was a randy lass. God bless her.

  • i was reading rock and folk magazine today and i read that mary travers died. she's one of my favourites singer and believe me, i almost cried.

  • Well, why didnt you cry,and if you didn't cry, why mention it?

  • because i wanted to.

  • this is just georgeous <3

  • She was so lovely and had the confidence that comes with inate talent.

She was always one of my favorites.

Thank you for posting this so we can look and listen again from time to time and remember when music was beautiful.

  • My personal favorite by them. They really cook on this performance, too!

Thanks for putting it up, Keeper!

  • marys voice...my god her voice...beautiful..so strong and angelic at the same time

  • @80spurplepickle i have watched this 20 times easy today. amazing. back in 1979, we sang a variant of this song in music class in kindergarten. how interesting this beautiful arrangement.

  • I heard this song for the first time a week ago. Now I can't get it out of my head. Beautifully sung.

  • This is my first time of hearing it the very moment as I'm writing and it got me immediately! R.I.P. Mary!!

  • Note how infused Mary is with the music. Note how she uses her shoulders to accent the lyrics. Pure majic!

  • Yours was the first album I ever bought. Such beauty you gave us, and such a message of love. Job well done, Mary.

  • pastaman999

Peter Yarrow did not try to rape a 14 year old in 1970. You should have tried to get your facts right before posting scurriolous remarks at what is a very sad time.

Mary was a wonderful lady and no way would she have been the enabler of a child molester, as you would have us believe.

    You ignorant retard!

  • pastaman999

    An apology wouldn't go amiss!

  • her voice is so strong she sings away from the mic and supressses her volume. Love you mary travers

  • It doesn't get any better than this.

Peace be with you, Peter, Paul, and Mary.

  • RIP Mary

  • This music is so refreshing and straightforward. Unlike today's artists who are more interested in being celebrities then having a real love for music.

  • Mary Travers was a wonderful singer. In this video, her voice is clear & powerful!

  • I own three of their original albums and a best of cd but have never heard this song before.

Its great and Mary is so lively as I have seen her twice in live concerts.

    RIP.

  • I'd never heard this arrangement before ... amazing! So beautiful, such lovely voices ... such a great loss, but the music (and their message) goes on.

  • what an amazing performance Mary. Thank you Thank you Thank you. You will be greatly missed. RIP *love*

  • I have always loved this song - thank you so much for posting these incredible old videos. RIP Mary Travers - your music meant so much to me.

  • Thank you, Mary. Rest in peace.

  • Rest in peace, Mary Travers..

    Thanks for the music

  • they all have great vocals....especially mary. i wonder what kind of star she would be now, if she was still young. music now is a popularity contest. u don't have to be good...just need to publicized right.

  • I was just a kid during this time. It's so great to see this now I'm almost 50 and understand what my father was talking about when he mentioned Peter, Paul and Mary.

  • I like this song. I had never heard this before. I had of course been aware of their classics - Blowing in the wind, puff the magic dragon, etc.

The other thing I like about this clip, is to see how young and beautiful they were back then. Getting old sucks. But that's another subject. Anyway, thanks for posting this.

  • Peter is on the viewer's right; and Mary's left

  • which on is peter

  • a song we sang in Vietnam in 1969....we were so homesick...

  • not to detract from the song, but mary's dress is fabulous!

  • I never heard of them and never heard this song before, but it is very nice!

  • excellent

  • no encuentro las palabras para describir lo que siento cada vez que escucho la voz de Mary en esta cancion......es hermosa

  • to thatsakeeper: thank you n thank you for ds great vid..never heard ds version..kip uploading!

  • Mary's voice so relaxingly powerful...

  • you're right. it does feel that way.

    mary is a true gift.

  • the guitar work is much better then in the record.

  • And the record is much better than the tape, and the tape is much better than the disc, and the disc sounds better than a MP3. I have the MP3 on my walkman and it is poor quality because it has small speakers. The CD played in a car sounds betten than on a walkman. The tape I play on my stereo at home is better than digital in the car (speakers). Nothing (except for the actual performance live) is better than the vinyl, even though it is on the same stereo as the tape. Vinyl sure beats my tape.

  • It's interesting to view a later version of this song and notice how their voices matured. I just love them!
