I don't know her range but I do know that when she first came with Through The Storm, she had every soloist hurting trying to get up there where she was at.
I think Yolanda (now) is more of a dramatic mezzo-soprano. When she first came out she was definitely a first soprano though. She can still get up to G5 most days but she has gained more power behind her voice since her tessitura has lowered.
I agree and sort of disagree with what you said. I think she is more of a second soprano now because i think she is more comfortable in her soprano range than alto range. I rarely see a video of her singing really low the whole time. But i also agree with kmaur21 that when her voice is rested she can do first soprano.
I'd say she's in between alto and soprano tessitura. I'll put it this way. If she's singing in a church choir, she'll probably sing alto, but if she sings in a concert choir she would probably sing first or second soprano.
I would still have to disagree...i saw videos of her singing backgrounds in both Jesus be a fence w/ Fred Hammond, Donnie, and Shirley and Heaven w/ Shirley caesar and she sang the soprano part both times and Held it DOWN!! I DO AGREE with you that her tessitura has lowered but I still think she herself would prefer to sing in the soprano section.
I think I'm going to change my opinion having seen her sing "You'll Never Walk Alone" in that tribute to Patti Labelle. If that wasn't soprano, I don't know what is! So I'm with you now, lol.
LOL BRO who you tellin!?!?! I was on the floor rollin like patti when i saw that!!! I love Yolanda because she sings and don't do all that extra runnin and riffin stuff and her TONE is PURE!!!
i love that performance too, but the highest note there was "only" f5 - yolanda's signature high note. but i've seen a behind-the-scenes video and she hit g5 there during the rehearsal
Lol I'm glad you put the only in quotes. My favorite performance of hers is I'm Gonna Be Ready at the Soul Train Awards when she went up to a sustained G#5 and did F#5's like crazy!
I think should would be a soprano in a gospel choir and probably a first alto in a concert choir..considering the fact that in gospel u use more of your chest voice, concert choir requires more of the head voice..however both genres of music at times require you to mix...just my opinion
This video is really getting me through the completion of a HUGE task that I never dreamed of completing. Within my acknowledgements section of my dissertation I HAVE to reference this page... thanks so much!
Mine was playing and stopping too so I just paused it abd let the bar get completely red then it worked fine. I needed to hear this soooo bad! Thank Ya Jesus :-)
They should have made an album out of this!! They should get some contemporary artists (like Mary Mary) and some gospel legends (like Yolanda Adams) and make a tribute CD to the Clark Sisters like this! This is amazing!!
I don't know what happened to the rest of the video. When I upload it, it says 6:14 but when it gets finished and converted up here its at 4:12. i did it twice so oh well.
aww I wish you could get the rest of it on here, cuz she straight killed it and I loved how she added Karen's "It Aint Over" message in it... but Thanks for this much!
Yes!!! Thanks for re-adding. I have worn this video and audio out since the first time you uploaded it. "But it ain't over...till God says it over..." :D
