    I think you are mistaken on these two points. Freddie often played spread voiced triads (which contain the root and the 5th!), not to mention many of the 3-note Freddie voicings for 6th and 7th chords typically have the shell of the root/3/7 or 5th/3/7.

    Nick Lucas, Eddie Lang, Lonnie Johnson, Carl Kress, Dick McDonough, to name a handful, preceded and in fact influenced Django.
