Its not hard to see how she got to have such a big international career.. because this is some really good singing. Even tone throughout over two octaves. Fabulous. and. Free ringing high notes.
that's what I'm saying. most singers don't seem to understand verdi at all. you can't punch notes, bang into the chest register or compromise any of the technical aspects of the music if you want to sing it well.
Her voice was very potent and powerful indeed but Giowarsaw is right. She sings in force, harsh and strident. No belcanto, no legato nothing here. This is young Verdi for God sake not Wagner!
I'm amazed by the flexibility of her voice here. Later at the Met when she sang Trovatore, it was a disaster, by then the voice though beautiful and with immense power, simply could not negoiate the more bravura passages in the role of Leonora- But her Forza? Wow-
Ok, if you ask someone who plays the piano, says that it is true - this is due to reasons of how the piano is made to have equal distances between the notes. However, in reality, a D- sharp should be a tiny bit higher than an E-flat, a violinist is going to tell this.
Well said Ladynerva. Her voice last with the same power for almost twenty years after this performance and her career is touching now the 40th year!!! Maybe paulalalaetc. wanted to get a role as Brunhilde and decided to fall asleep for all this time. I dare to guess that Siegfried never showed up.
Muss aus der Margareten-Insel-Freilichttheater sein, habe damals noch in Ungarn die Übertragung gesehen. Fantastisch, dass soetwas noch existiert!!! Stimmfest!
The tempo of the cavaletta is much better than the aria. Even is a very conventional and not exciting at all, marton's voice is great! love the horses at the end...
A legcsodálatosabb Attila duett, amit valaha hallottam!

Very potent voice, but Verdi is not a synonym for verrismo. Wrong interpretation.

this is ridiculous. 2:18 falls like a lead balloon. this is not the right music for her- stick to wagner and turandot

Incredible, great voice, total lack of style. Verdi
is not ver
rismo.

Sorry, but at 2:18 she had a very strange way of ending the phrase.

Eva Marton was classified as a dramattic soprano.

terrible it looks like she's singing(?!) Santuzza on Wagner partitura!!!!
giowarsaw 3 years ago
She certainly has some strong high notes. I wonder if she ever sang an e-flat, she doesn't have the agility that some other sopranos have.

An E-flat? No.

Not last??? I won't pretend that I know of her entire carrier - frankly, even if I tried I could not. But have you heard her as Turandot in
New York Met in 1988 - some funny 16 years later? Or just the samples of her other accomplishments here around youtube?
Anyway I really do not understand what you mean by that that this voice did not last...
Here, she is really amazing, the diction, the technique, everything is compact. (Probably later she had to sing Turandot standing on a piano.....)

For the tempos you can aprehend to Maestro Gardelli. He conducted this open air performance.
