Survivorman shows you first hand how to survive without any help. If you want to see a show where the guy actually goes through everything then watch Survivorman. Man Vs. Wild is educational entertainment! If Bear sleeps in a hotel, WHO CARES! It's not part of his job to stay out in the wilderness.

There are no venomous snakes in the Dominican Republic, neither life threatening animals, maybe a wild hog, but they're very rare to find and usually avoid people....If he had known, he would have found lots of edible roots too.
