Its truly amazing how much the drug war has turned chemical substances into "zombifying killing monsters". If anyone here really is blaming the drugs, and therefore Andy Dick, because he have some coke, something that is as common as a beer in Hollywood, to Brynn, and this led to her relapse, and Hartman's death... Find another scapegoat. This was her issue... She did what she did because of what was going on with her mentally. She chose her actions.. Coke was a component, but minor.
I too don't think Andy should be vilified for this. I don't know when this show aired, but even if it was 5 or 6 years after the event, he obviously feels pretty bad about it. And from someone who has done puh-lenty of drugs in my past, I will say that drugs are not the menace--it is the person inside of you that fears or hurts which causes the destructive behavior. Yes, drugs, and in my opinion, even more so, alcohol, make this behavior worse, it is not the culprit. Also, Lovitz was venting.
I hate that gold digging cunt, Brynn.....not only for what she did to Phil who wasn't an abusive husband...who didn't use drugs and by no way imaginable deserved what she did to him....but what she did to their kids.....I hope she's in hell!
And like he had said like if your looking for something your going to go searching for it, like if someone dies from drug overdoses it isn't the supplier fault that they died, the drugs had killed them it's no ones fault but well your own.
It wasn't Andy's fault, he didn't put the gun in her hand and say shoot him, that was her Own doing. And like someone said she would have gotten the drugs from someone else, Yes he shouldn't have given it to her but your brain is so messed up alters your thinking, and her only problem wasn't the Cocaine. I wish she could have gotten the help needed but It's always well if He would have done this and he wouldn't have did that! who's to know the outcome would have been any different!
The problem with Dick, is that he doesn't even feel any remorse.
If somebody died because of my POSSIBLE action, even if it wasn't intentional on my part, and even if I had no idea it could be dangerous, but it led them down to a path of self destruction - I'd feel badly.
Andy is totally - who gives a shit about it. That's really bothersome to me.
The term Andy seems to be ignoring is "facilitation." No, his cocaine care package didn't kill Brynn, but it got her BACK into her habit. "It wasn't me, I didn't do anything." Typical denial of an addict. For those of us who knew and know Andy, this is typical of his self-destructive, self-absorbed behavior.
I, for one, applauded when I heard of Lovitz' beat down of Andy. Jon and Phil were good friends, and the world lost a true talent in Phil Hartman.
Jon Lovitz is the last person to talk "smack". That loser KILLED "News Radio" (one of the best shows on tv!) within a yr! And god knows how many he actors who never made it, to suicide? I feel bad for Andy, I think he has been on a path of self destruction becuz he blames himself. When you are in a headspace where you are doing coke, you will certainly offer it to others without meaning any evil, how many people have thrown down lines at a party and everyone said thanx and no one died? Brinn was a phuquetard, I wish Phil had left her, but he didn't. I don't think Andy is a terrible person at all, I think he is stuck living some kind of hell that he does not know how to escape.

Also, to those who said she is responsible for it...I agree to an extent, but in no way is he blameless.....if she hadn't had so much access to it, who is to say they still wouldn't have been alive today? @Chloey0789 come on now, honestly? This is fucking Hollywood; she would have scored some coke within the day if Andy didn't give her any..and like he said, this was like half a year before the murder. This woman is not responsible "to an extent", she is a cold-blooded murderer who had no remorse for her actions (proven by the fact she called her friend instead of 911, brought the friend back to her house, and killed herself only when police arrived and she knew she had to face the consequences)
Also, if he knew the effects of it, why give it to someone that you clearly knew had the same if not worse problem....? No excuse... and the fact that Phil Hartman asked and wanted to help his wife out of it is all the more why this man should feel like the worst possible person ever! Phil wanted to help his wife and this idiot got him killed....nice...!
@Chloey0789 Are you lazy, deaf or just like hating on Andy? He didn't discover her problem until he was already in rehab when Phil called him up, "did she have a problem" @ 2:16. This could have been weeks, months, who knows how long after he gave her the coke. Stop hearing things that only you want to hear.

i dont "blame" andy dick for the death of phil hartman but his actions did bring upon his demise. and if you ask me, that gives me reason enough to hate him.
@qukarlz alright hate is too strong a word, i actually do think andy dick is funny. i guess theres just that what if factor in my mind. apologies for the stupid remark. and im not retarded i just wasnt stoned enough to think rationally ha. peace.
Wow, he is truly insane. I agree with his point that he shouldn't be blamed for their deaths, or what Brynn Hartman did. However, he's got a whole lot of problems himself. It's his perceived insensitivity about the whole thing that's the problem.
Andy is a good (albeit very odd, lol!!) person with substance abuse problems. I suppose no one here has talked on the cell phone while driving, bought their underrage friend a six-pack of beer, got your friend hooked on cigarettes (which will cause them to get hooked, and eventually develop lung cancer at age 50 and die).......
Get off your high horses, losers. Projecting much? I think so. :-)
@tygersflowerz Seriously, I hate the self righteous types who fester on sites like this. Brynn was head-case, full of the same insecurities many other spouses of famous celebrities suffer from. Yet THEY don't go KILLING their more talented spouse because of it. The truth is this country via the media has conditioned us to believe women are somehow never responsible for their negative actions, like kids. That a dick must be sought to blame. Conveniently for some, Andy absolves her culpability.
@FREAKNIZZLE100: Again, Andy lives up to his last name, but you can't blame someone's own decision on other people. In this case Jon Lovitz' wife chose to give in to her weakness, and paid the price.
Jumping to conclusions is part of the reason why we have politics, sports and hollywood all in denial. They don't want to deal with the pain of telling the truth, so they avoid it until they get caught. At least Andy Dick had the balls to fess up to what was going on.
Brynn was a good person. When ppl mix perscription drugs like Zoloft with alcohol theres an EXTREMELY common side effect of suicidal tendncies. read any label. she wasn't crazy u ppl r just trying to find someone to blame. no ones at fault. she was sober for 10 yrs til Dick came around and she slipped just like any person would trying to quit smoking/drinking. Bush did coke and he led our country. ppl have struggles. Remember that this was a life that was lost. not just a story for the tabloids
@LetsRainDance Bush led our country into two wars, one of them ENTIRELY unsubstantiated, infringed upon our civil liberties (Patriot Act), spent more money than ALL the previous presidents COMBINED! Supported Cheney when he outed a CIA operative which is a treasonous act, rescinded more environmental laws than any other president, had ONE and ONLY ONE veto for his entire first term. The guy was a simpleton because of the coke. Leader? Keep dreaming.
The guy is a Dick, what can ya say!??! I don't mess with any drugs other then ones for a headache, or my case of adema I had, from too much salt. I always thought Andy Dick is naturally about as crazy as Tom Green but Green's got his THING under control in recent years. Remember Andy from GTA San Andreas?!? Maurice?!?
Wow! What an incredible idiot Andy Dick is. I mean I always thought he was an idiot, but how stupid could one be to not realize in the matter of 3 minutes he both denied knowing Mrs Hartman had an addiction problem and then admitted telling Phil Hartman months before he provided his wife with the dose that ended in her murder/suicide act., that if she had an addiction problem, he ought to get her into the addiction center he was using at the time. This guy may be the stupidest person on earth.
@thku4grace Wrong! You have chosen to hear only what you wanted. He said he gave her the coke months before the incident. He didn't provide us with any more details. How do you know he didn't give her the coke just days, weeks or even months BEFORE he went to rehab and discovered her problem? Be careful taking things out of context. As far as I observe Andy did nothing wrong.
To trolls and actual idiots alike: read Larry King's interview with Phil Hartman's brother's transcript. Phil was close with his borther, in this interview with him, after Phil passed away, Andy Dick's name is never even mentioned. FAGGOTS.
Tom Green pauses for ages after Dick's incomprehensible attempt to shift all of the blame for Hartman's death away from himself at the start of the clip, and you can hear Tom thinking: "That didn't make any fucking sense, Andy. You ARE partly responsible for Hartman's murder."
@greenwall100 maybe so, but why is andy dick so fucking cocky about it? he sounds like he`s trying to cover his ass, but either way he doesn`t care. By the way, it`s spelled ETC you faggot
I dont understand how people can blame him. If you go to a bar and get drunk then leave and kill someone on your way home does that mean the bar tender is to blame. im sorry but the only one to blame is the one who pulled the trigger.
Andy Dick may be a major fuck up, and I may loathe the man, but the only person responsible for her own sobriety was Brynn Hartman.
Addicts have a hard time staying clean and Brynn Hartman was clearly one of those people. Andy Dick didn't force her to do drugs- Brynn did it willingly. What Andy did was stupid, but she would have found drugs some other way if he turned her down.
@Calikola well said. I, too, detest the very sight of Andy Dick, in any context other than NewsRadio, where his being annoying was a plus. However, yeah... it's not like he's the one who coked her up the night it happened, or combined it with drinks and prescription drugs.
@Calikola- Great words that your wrote, and I'd like to add that Brynn's own brother blames Zoloft and its manufacturer Pfizer more for Phil's death than he does Andy Dick. Zoloft is an anti-depressant that causes horrible side effects when someone tries to quit or even misses a few doses. One of the most common side effects of Zoloft withdrawl is suicidal thoughts and actions, as well as impulsive behavior. As a result, a class action lawsuit is going on NOW, 13 years later agasint Pfizer.
Guilt is eating away at him, but its not really his fault, yes he gave her the coke, but he didn't say kill Phill Hartman, so this reaction of anger and joking about it is a coping mechanism to deal with it.
Well apparently she was the one who was so selfish she couldn't appreciate her husbands wishes enough or love her kids enough to stay clean because even if andy gave it to her, i'm sure he didn't shove it up her nose. And no one has a reason to murder someone. She was a selfish a hole if I can't have him noone can type and killed a great man. i wish she just killed herself or overdosed and left him out of it....
In Newsradio mathew and bill where great characters....veeery funny both of them....but i didn know phil or andy.....maybie phil hit his wife when they were alone...who knows....she killed him..she was high at the moment..but its still her who did it...and she probably had a reason.....so my point is...if we start judging every actor we probably wouldnt have any show to watch....cause Nobodys perfect...
I loved Phil Hartman on SNL and The Simpsons. He was a great man. Brillent comedian and serial impressionist. Andy Dick gave his wife the damn drugs. I've done more of my homework on this since becoming a fan of Phil and watching documentaries about his life. Andy Dick is a disgusting toad!! How dare he give this mother of two drugs after she promissed Phil to stay clean. I swear if I ever see Andy I'll hit himself.
The guilt is eating the guy up. I don't buy his confession, even if he didn't mean to be responsible. He was partly responsible. Also half a year isn't a long time from the time he introduced her the coke. that's frickin short!
How about being an adult and responsible for YOURSELF? I find it amazing how it's ALWAYS someone elses fault for peoples' so called "drug addictions".
I agree with you that Phil Hartman was wonderful. A great comeidan and actor. I called him a serial impressionist due to the fact he did so many voices. It's a shame I never got to sit down and chat with the real Phil Hartman. I am sure he was a sweet man who loved to make people laugh. It is still amazing that last year he would have turned 60!!!! RIP Phil I hope that you and Chris Farley are making God smile.
Everyone makes mistakes so I'm not holding it against him that he gave her cocaine. If we never forgave anyone, this world would come to a quick end. But the fact that he said he didn't know she had a drug problem to begin with is ridiculous. It doesn't matter whether or not someone is a drug addict, DON'T GIVE THEM DRUGS.
If you know someone with a drug problem, please help them before it's too late.
God damn this four-eyed, pencil-necked piece of human waste.
I can see both sides, that it is his fault, and it isn't. No he didn't pull the trigger on Phil, in that aspect, he's guiltless. But, he did get Phil's wife started back down a BAD road, and that led to both of their deaths. She started the ball rolling, but managed to stop it. Andy came along and the ball started to roll again.
In my mind, he lead to their deaths, and personal demons or not, he can go straight to hell, that asshole.
Right. I'm sure drunk drivers would like to blame the gas station attendant, bartender, grocery store clerk, waiter, club owner, etc for allowing them to purchase a drink. Or maybe the stoner would like to blame his dealer for making him late for work or being too lazy that it got him fired.
I'm sick of people getting blamed for bullshit... Marylin Manson, Judas Preist, Video games.....fuck the media always looking for a scapegoat and the government putting on restrictions...as human beings, we are able to learn from our mistakes. We must take responsibility for ourselves and our actions otherwise we will be even more dependant on the government to dictate our lives. Moderation and personal responsibility people, for fuck sakes.
he's abviously drunk, and thats what they do, claim and deny, i feel bad for him, and i hope he can realise that shit happens. one point its all there fault, and then they had nothing to do with it. he so lost that he doesnt want to remember. so he ganna rant about it. good or bad. the guy needs help. i hope he gets it.
This is absolutely ridiculous. How can he keep rabitting on about his supposed lack of guilt? I'm so sick of him ranting on about this issue when really he should just admit that he did help feed her drug habit. He seems really insensitive about the whole thing. "Then months later they were BOTH dead.". He speaks about it so clinically, laughing even at points. It sickens me, Phil was so talented and Andy is so selfish.
I don't know how far the responsibility game goes back but, I had a friend in high school who, while drunk driving, killed his best friend, completely without a doubt 100% responsible for it. Could you imagine having to live with that guilt? I bet if Andy thinks he is just 1% responsible, he must feel like complete shit everyday of his life. That's rough.
Yes Andy is a bit weird but I have to agree with him. He is not responsible for Phil Hartman's death. It was wrong for him to give cocaine to his wife since a good friend wouldn't give that garbage to his friend's wife but that doesn't take responsibility away from Mrs. Hartman. She pulled the trigger. She did wrong. Drugs are not an excuse to do stupid and/or evil things. Period.
Of course andy is responsible. The man is a walking time bomb. He should be put to sleep. Phil Hartman was one of our NATIONAL TREASURES. andy dick has NEVER been funny, NEVER WILL BE funny, and is still reproducing. I hope someone offs this fucking brat.
Hey unionyour right 100%,he says in the interview that phil told him of her problem, and the whole way he talks about this as if its no big deal is sicking,no dick didnt kill them, but he sure didnt help, and he sure wasnt a friend to phil,he gives phil wife drugs lnowing she has a problem, how is that friend and how can you defned someone who passes out drugs?? all the obsene language wont prove your point any better!
Giving drugs to someone is somehow ok,since you didnt know they had a problem, yea keep telling yourself that, dick what a perfect fit for such a dick,by the way whats so funny about andy?
that was very heart felt look at his face as he talked about phil... you can tell he feels guilt... he's just trying to get validation from others... but guilt... is an evil thing...
Andy is not Responsible for god's sake how can anyone blame him? so a person who is taught 2 drive a car then 5 months later mounts a sidewalk and kills a person head on!who do we blame the person who taught him 2 drive? or the person who gave him the car? Andy dick is a new modern day comedian who works extremly hard under intense pressure, we don't know what it's like 2 be stars for gods sake, Andy you enjoy life bud no one has the right to judge you least of all the public your a top guy bud
how can you compare teaching to drive with dealing drugs? just ridiculous. he may not be directly responsible, but he surely is an asshole giving a friends wife drugs.
jesus.. poor guy. i mean yeh.. he fucked up... but he didn't know. i dont think he sleeps well. its not his fault anyway. drugs are bad. everyone makes up there own mind about to keep going or stop.
andy dicks the shit my friend one of the funniest mutherfuckers alive...he didnt shoot phill hartman...his wife shot him 5 months after her started addiction his wife was the only person responsible...not one man can be responsible for another persons actions...stop putting the blame on andy because his wifes dead and you have no one else to blame....i feel sorry for andy dick...great actor one of my favourites...
this was the least genuine performance ive ever seen. i bet dick is self obsessed , he doesnt seem genuinly moved or affected by whats happened at all. fake tears etc , horrible to watch
Andy says it himself "Phil called me and asked if it was good cause he wanted to get his wife in there" Andy says " why does she have a problem?" Phil says "yes"
Don't say you didn't know she had a problem jackass.... you are a lying sob with both of their blood on your hands. You should be charged with their deaths.... this video proves you were aware. Go to hell Andy Dick-head.
Are you fucking kidding me? Andy Dick didn't fucking kill Phil Hartman. Did he shoot him? No. His wife didn't have to snort that coke and she didn't have to kill Phil. Get the fuck over and stop blaming Andy for Phil's death.
I miss Phil Hartman....As for Dick, he knows what he did to the man & his wife, that's why he can't get well-demons. It's obvious to all of us here that he knows he's responsible. Your lies & mischief eat you up Andy...
Quit your bitching. Everybody takes responsibility for their own choices. You blame Andy for their deaths, then go blame the people that introduced drugs to him, and the people that introduced drugs to them, and so on... numb nuts.
You are at fault Andy. You sat there and wanted tom green to say it was not your fault. It was you ass wipe...You are a Dick and stupid actor. You killed Phil Hartman because you gave Blow as you said.Scum some one should kick your ass you little coke head
Proud to say Ive never even touched coke, literally. FUCK THAT SHIT.

Oh, the crocodile tears for his "surrogate father"!
Andy Dick is a loathsome, talentless little nobody - and in this babbling, creepy interview his guilt and complicity are obvious.
I detest him, and believe his actions led directly to the deaths of both Phil and Brynn Hartman.

I think so. :-)
tygersflowerz 1 year ago
@tygersflowerz Seriously, I hate the self righteous types who fester on sites like this. Brynn was head-case, full of the same insecurities many other spouses of famous celebrities suffer from. Yet THEY don't go KILLING their more talented spouse because of it. The truth is this country via the media has conditioned us to believe women are somehow never responsible for their negative actions, like kids. That a dick must be sought to blame. Conveniently for some, Andy absolves her culpability.
IfitBleedsWecnKillit 1 year ago
But Jon Lovitz is an ass for laying that guilt trip on Andy....

SolidSnakeRules 1 year ago
@LetsRainDance Bush led our country into two wars, one of them ENTIRELY unsubstantiated, infringed upon our civil liberties (Patriot Act), spent more money than ALL the previous presidents COMBINED! Supported Cheney when he outed a CIA operative which is a treasonous act, rescinded more environmental laws than any other president, had ONE and ONLY ONE veto for his entire first term. The guy was a simpleton because of the coke. Leader? Keep dreaming.

MetallicBill 1 year ago
This guy may be the stupidest person on earth.
thku4grace 1 year ago 5
@thku4grace Wrong! You have chosen to hear only what you wanted. He said he gave her the coke months before the incident. He didn't provide us with any more details. How do you know he didn't give her the coke just days, weeks or even months BEFORE he went to rehab and discovered her problem? Be careful taking things out of context. As far as I observe Andy did nothing wrong.

RIP Phil Hartman. We all miss you terribly.
Calikola 2 years ago 87
@Calikola well said. I, too, detest the very sight of Andy Dick, in any context other than NewsRadio, where his being annoying was a plus. However, yeah... it's not like he's the one who coked her up the night it happened, or combined it with drinks and prescription drugs.
Xphile78 1 year ago
@Calikola- Great words that your wrote, and I'd like to add that Brynn's own brother blames Zoloft and its manufacturer Pfizer more for Phil's death than he does Andy Dick. Zoloft is an anti-depressant that causes horrible side effects when someone tries to quit or even misses a few doses. One of the most common side effects of Zoloft withdrawl is suicidal thoughts and actions, as well as impulsive behavior. As a result, a class action lawsuit is going on NOW, 13 years later agasint Pfizer.

RealTime88 2 years ago 2
Everyone makes mistakes so I'm not holding it against him that he gave her cocaine. If we never forgave anyone, this world would come to a quick end. But the fact that he said he didn't know she had a drug problem to begin with is ridiculous. It doesn't matter whether or not someone is a drug addict, DON'T GIVE THEM DRUGS.
If you know someone with a drug problem, please help them before it's too late.

alanpartridge2008 2 years ago
God damn this four-eyed, pencil-necked piece of human waste.
I can see both sides, that it is his fault, and it isn't. No he didn't pull the trigger on Phil, in that aspect, he's guiltless. But, he did get Phil's wife started back down a BAD road, and that led to both of their deaths. She started the ball rolling, but managed to stop it. Andy came along and the ball started to roll again.
In my mind, he lead to their deaths, and personal demons or not, he can go straight to hell, that asshole.

Does anyone even give a shit about Andy Dick?
roderickgreene 2 years ago 6
Right. I'm sure drunk drivers would like to blame the gas station attendant, bartender, grocery store clerk, waiter, club owner, etc for allowing them to purchase a drink. Or maybe the stoner would like to blame his dealer for making him late for work or being too lazy that it got him fired.
Your choice. Your problem.

I'm sick of people getting blamed for bullshit... This is absolutely ridiculous. How can he keep rabitting on about his supposed lack of guilt? "Then months later they were BOTH dead.". He speaks about it so clinically, laughing even at points. It sickens me, Phil was so talented and Andy is so selfish.

bemjamin 2 years ago
I don't know how far the responsibility game goes back but, I had a friend in high school who, while drunk driving, killed his best friend, completely without a doubt 100% responsible for it. Could you imagine having to live with that guilt? I bet if Andy thinks he is just 1% responsible, he must feel like complete shit everyday of his life. That's rough.
crunch65 3 years ago 3
Yes Andy is a bit weird but I have to agree with him. He is not responsible for Phil Hartman's death. It was wrong for him to give cocaine to his wife since a good friend wouldn't give that garbage to his friend's wife but that doesn't take responsibility away from Mrs. Hartman. She pulled the trigger. She did wrong. Drugs are not an excuse to do stupid and/or evil things. Period.
