  • Any plane will suffer form fatigue, the f-15 has been around a long long time and improper maintenance is bound to happen. I remember hearing about wings falling off our Starfighters, they were 30 years old needed 30 hours of maintenance for every hour of flight and I bet these f-15s are worn out too.

  • made in china

  • a dude landed a jet fighter with 1 wing... thats skill

  • Just build newer F-15s and then the future of them will we guranteed...duhhhhh!!!!!!

  • F-18 E and F will stay in service as the navy's "high" model and the f-35 will be the lo model. Air forces is f22 high and f35 lo.

  • I like F15

  • Made in China . Based on facts :)

  • @Bibazavr

Made in China is actually better, never heard of a fighter jet made by Chinese that broke up like that.

  • @Mikeybikey88 LOL, yes, never heard of made in China jets broke up, made in China products exported to USA are crap, but military products are superb.

  • i'd still take it over an Su-27.

The damn thing's practically sticking it's neck out to be cut.

  • haha yeah

  • "Tum tum te tum... tuurrrrn... What th- EJECT!"

  • What gets me is that people were paid to inspect and ensure that components are to spec. Whether its a 50c split pin to a compressor blade. Some one obviously had a good lapse of judgment when it comes to quality control on the F15 line. Shame. good bird. Got to be hurting you guys in the states.

  • It means: GIVE US MOAR MONEY.

Yes, you, the tax payer GIVES US MOAR MONEY for the f22. Thank you.

  • sure I'll just go to the bank Monday ^_^

  • Like I'm ever gonna give my money to some guy who can't spell more. Probably spend it all on ice cream and candy.

  • Hmmm I missed the good old days when the F-14's where still flying in the air :( miss those days. F-15 never really had a real challenge I mean Mig-21 aren't challenges.

I'd like if F-15 go up against Su-30, it would be a thriller of a match up to witness.

  • @PROeLiTeZ My money would be on the F15, and it definatly will have the BVR advantage.

  • @PROeLiTeZ There were several air-to-air kills against MiG-23's and two MiG-25 Foxbats during 1991 as well.

  • the US should purchase Su-37s and use those to replace the F-15s or atleast gt some of the TOmcats back

  • that's what the F-35 and F-22 are for

  • yeai agree but its still a long time the f-35 should replace f-16's but f-35 project is in threat of cancellation and f-22s are too expensive and insufficient numbers to equip full squadrons. in my opinion, i think that USAF F-4E's shold be reactivated to replace old f-15s although the f-4 is old, it did a good job in vietnam and should be respected.

  • your kidding right? the f-15 was the replacement for f-4.

  • firebat, it's the f-22, f-35 is intended to be more of an attack role plane, but still carrying the "fighter" mark...

  • F-22 is similar in role to F-15C

F-35 is similar in role to F-16, F-18.

  • and a-10

  • nothing can replace that and it's not gonna get retired till 2021

  • it will begin the process of replacement. However they have not come to a conclusion on how soon it will be retired. Yes there are upgrades being made but theres no saying when they can stop that process and scrap them before 2021

  • yeah I thought about that after I typed that

  • F-35 is replacing the F-16 F-18 hornet and the Harrier

  • the hornet is already replaces except for the marines. Navy now uses the super hornet, which is not getting retired.

  • it is cause I saw a movie about the on the X-35 and X-32 and it said the X-35 is replacing the F-16, F-18, and the Harrier

  • why does everyone hate the f-15 so much? besides, the su-37 is cancelled, and the f-22 is the f-15's replacement. the f-14 was retired due tohigh maintainence costs, and may be ressurected temporarily in emergency.

  • When Hell freezes over (about the Su-37 thing). No offense, but if I ever become a pilot for the USAF, there's no way I'd even look in a direction of the Su-37. It's not an American jet. I don't wanna offend, but I have more American standards than to fly a Russian plane. Yes, they are extremely effective, but I'd rather stick with an F-15 or F-16.

  • best video i've seen on youtube this year. 6 stars!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • im a f-15 crew cheif for first fighter squ. at langly afb in va. the f15 is the greatest jet ever made. the f22 will surpass it but thats the only jet to ever really beat an f15 in a dog fight. it is not a copy of the mig25.

  • F-15 was made because of the MiG-25. It's not a copy.

  • The US thought the MiG-25 was a fighter capable of mach 3 and dog fighting under a G-load of over 9. Therefor the USAF developed a fighter capable of fighting an aircraft of that ability. Where in reality, the MiG-25 is only capable of no more then 3 G's and any run over mach 3 burned up the compressors and rendered the jet usless. The US' over-estimate of the MiG-25 developed the most formitable fighter the world's ever seen.

  • yeah, it's turning is actually rather sluggish, as it was made for interception

  • The MiG-25 is a piece of crap compared to the F-15. How could you even say the F-15 was a copy of the MiG-25?? But like others say, it was made to kill of MiGs. Bah, MiG's are good, but in my eyes "MiGs were born to die"..

  • The MiG-25 is capable for its job; a high altitude, high speed interceptor. Once it hits the merge, it can't turn, and has poor weapons... The F-15 was a direct answer for requests to build a high alt. interceptor capable of finding and killing Mig-25s. The F-15 is a great airplane and a joy to fly... Kill Migs...

  • Have you actually looked at how both planes look? Do you know what kind of hysteria was caused in Pentagon at the end of 60s due to MiG-25?

Of course F-15 was/is "an improved copy" of MiG-25. Both superpowers were doing it all the time. There's nothing wrong with it. If you have probem admiting it due to patriotism, it's ok.

  • but the mig 25 was exagerated in the pentagon, when a mig 25 defected and went into japan the west understood that the mig 25 wasnt all that impressive

note that the f-15 is the only plane to have ever flown with one wing

but in the end its the pilot and not the plane that wins the battle

  • @TouchTold It wasnt a "improved copy" because they knew hardly anything about the Mig25, they thought it was designed to dogfight. If they knew the Mig25s real capabilities, they probably wouldnt have built the F15.

  • The F-15 Has shot down the F-22 with its gun in red flag

  • the one that broke up was made in china

  • that was a dumb joke

  • Unit cost US$137.5 million (2008 flyaway cost)

THAT IS ON WIKIPEDIA THE F-22 is 137.5 million go look it up

  • the narator dude sounds like an ass...

  • Narrator is spelled with two "r"s.

  • he sounds hella weird

  • Why are you people talking about the Raptor?! This video is about the wonderful Eagle. Of course the Eagle is getting old, but put one of them in the junkyard and I'll go get it.

  • tell me so i can go with you

  • me too.

  • because they all think the 22 is god you can see from there comment's that they are just fighter buffs, you need to understand airframe design and the concepts of air to air engagement, red flag 08 we will see the 22 will be met my the worlds greatest squadrons WE WILL SEE

  • The F22 flew against 6 F15's in a mock battle in the US. All F15s were eliminated, and the only F15 that ever saw the F22, and that was after he'd been 'eliminated,' and the 22 flew over his canopy.

  • Me 2 it's great the F-15 Strike Eagle,F-18 Super Hornet and the F-22 Raptor are great if u put 1 of eachother in a junkyard i'll be there.

  • this was made on a mac...

  • Their was a Air National guard F-15 that went down in the ocean 60 miles off the coast of Hawaii. The pilot ejected safely and was rescued 30 minutes later.

  • that guy has the best voice

  • Well this vid was only talking about the f-15 A-D models. They didn't mention the F-15E, which should be fit for service for another decade. the F-15 is still a legendary fighter for the United States.

  • Dude you are SO far off.

The first production model of the F-15E was delivered to the 405th Tactical Training Wing, Luke AFB, Ariz., in April 1988.

Fit for service in Another decade...try a couple of decades ago.

  • That would make for an interesting ride, pre-ejection at least

  • how can the jet fly with just one wing?

    i don't believe it

  • cuz if it has fly by wiring....it can still give you enough control to land your plane

  • The F-15 isn't fly by wire. It's flight control system is hydraulically boosted with mechanical rods and cables going to the actuators on each flight control. It also has a CAS (control augmentation system)on the roll, pitch, and yaw axies to prevent the pilot from overstressing the flight controls.

  • the body of the jet provided some lift. when afterburners were applied the f-15 was able to recover and be controlled, somewhat. the f-15 landed at over 200 knots far above regular landing speeds and barely had enough runway length. this help?

  • That and a pilot with a lot of skill and a set of great big brass ones.

  • you know... it's stupid to land something with one wing... I'd just use common sense and EJECT!

  • the pilot couldn't see the damage. due to a tremendous stream of fuel pouring out on that side of the aircraft the damage was not obvious. the fact he was able to regain control it would have been counterintuitive for him to eject. having said that, i'm sure had he known the true extent of the damage to his fighter, no doubt he would have ejected.

  • Sure. Your probably right that he couldnt see the damage. But, and I am not a pilot, the fact that he needed to come in at twice normal landing speed leads me to believe that he realized a good portion of the wing must have been missing- and he increased speed to avoid stalling? Interesting insight Gear, thanks!

  • that's what he said in his vid.

  • @BryMelhus If I was that pilot, I would have tried to get my 30-80 billion dollar aircraft back to base, now, if it was totally impossible, I would have ejected. The whole purpose of being a fighter pilot is if it has to be done, take even the slimmest chance.

  • It's possible. I know because I was an F-15 crew chief for seven years. The horizontal stabilators in the back are 3/4 the length of the main wing. When the wing was shot off, the pilot trimmed the airplane full left, which also trims the stabs differentially to maintain control. The Eagle was built with a tremendous amount of redundacy to get the pilot home in the event of an emergency.

  • cool. now i've learned something today i think im gonna go back to sleep

  • those planes are so pretty.

  • the F-15E's will still be around until 2025 because there not affected

  • Well thats good to know. I love this jet.

  • Good video, great explanation.

  • Our Air Forces had just purchased about 24 of the F15 from Boeing, wonder is this a right move, especially we have the option to buy either the Mirage from France and the Euro fighter Typhoon.

  • Hmm guess my post was deleted correcting the video on the mid air collision part with the F-15 losing a wing

  • Please watch the video again. You'll find that the post was incorrect -- not the video.

  • For clarification: The black and white midair portion of this video has been edited but is illustrative of real events. It is separate from the actual one-wing-landing identified by the subsequent still image.

  • oé boff

  • Good Job AV Web !!

  • woah!

    41.5 million for one f-51?

    daaam

    there goes my tax money

  • well .. those machines ain't cheap you know ?

  • it's a f-15. you actually think that is expensive, the f-22 is way more. each planes price tag is approx. 137.7 million.

the b-2 bomber price tag is from 727m - 2.2b

  • the f22 is 20 to 40 billion dolloars

  • What? Are you Dr. Evil? The F-22 costs anywhere from $133 to $240 Million each. Not 20 to 40 Billion.

  • dude its 20 to 40 billion....go even check on wiki.....the f 18 might cost that much but not the f22

  • No, still wrong. The cost of the entire program is around $62 billion. That is for 183 F-22's. That makes the cost of each individual aircraft around $340 Million per aircraft.

You need to read it a little better. Your looking at the total cost of the entire fleet.

  • if you're right, then the usaf has 91.5-183 times more money than bill gates, plus maintainence, and the hundreds of other aircraft to support. THaink about it man. if they had that much money, then why didn't they just blast money at their enemies? bullets made of pennies.

  • Don't you just love it when people don't know and still insist they're right? LMAO. The F 15s still in service will be there for years to come. A new and more intensive preventive maintenance co sponsored with MD will see to that. Its just too good an aircraft just to chuck away, The F-22 will be the new air superiority fighter but the old bird will still soldier on and on for quite a while.

  • omg that narrator is putting me to sleep...

  • everybody vote ron paul!

  • the wheels are coming off in more places than one.

  • gran huevada... a quien carajos le importa!

  • pa q lo ve entonces...

  • Que clase de ignorante !!

    Para que lo ve entonces?

  • Ok that means the money we've wasted on this phony war in Iraq, wont be there to replace these faulty F-15. Great, just great.

  • it's ok we've got almost 700 more

  • The UK...America's puppet.

  • hehe why do you cry over youtube videos?

  • damn i only said crappy planes hehe. someof you americans dont have a sense of what humor really is. some of you think sand is funny

  • I think Spam is funny.

Spammity spam...wonderful spam! I'm having the spam, spam, spam, spam, baked beans, spam, spam and spam.

  • this doesn't make me feel as bad about all the F-15s Bush is selling to the Saudis and UAE; it's still a hell of an aircraft

  • my last comment was supposed to be to "mixindave1" and his comment below...

  • I think they should build new F-15 Eagles. The old ones are obviously amazing flying machines. It'd be sad to see a great fighter plane go like that. They just replaced the Navy's F-14 with the F-18... I think they should improve the fleet, not replace them with a different plane...

  • do whatever it takes to keep the f-15s in the air. one of Americas most deadly and beautiful achievements ever.

  • Yep, need to keep up on maintenance. Kick the tires and light the fires.

  • Not to blueprint specifications? Somebody call Boeing and ask for some of our money back.

  • haha yeah

  • damn haters and their crappy comments.

  • how much of this did you watch?

did you listen to the part where a wing was blown off in a collision and it was still landed???/

    ur a dumbass

  • Yeah crappy US planes...with its 103 to ZERO kill ratio...damn those crappy planes!

  • "damn crappy U.S. planes"??? I'm glad you're profile said you're from the U.K. If you're in the States somewhere, someone should boot your ass back to where you came from. The F-15 is one of the best fighter jets ever designed. ...

  • The F-15 was the greatest combat aircraft ever. There is no other fighter that has proven itself like the F-15. It is legend. Period. The F-22 is amazing but it still must prove itself.

  • F-14 Tomcat is much better than the F-15 :P

  • F-22 RAPTOR BEATS ALL XD

  • I disagree; the Eagle is superior all-around. However, the Tomcat carried the Phoenix missle, which was one of the most ridiculously awesome air-to-air weapons of its time.

  • Better? Why is it not in service anymore?

  • @astralmagickcraft That's why F-15 jocks refered to Tomcats as "Turkeys" when viewed through their gunsight from behind.

  • thanks for the negatuves americans, why would i listen to it all???? the voice is making me fall asleep.

  • PPPPPHhhuuuhhh!! 60 Mins should hire you.

  • Don't you measure fatigue and cracks on your aircraft?

  • This is a professional presentation.

  • his voice is so boring

  • F-15 = GOAT

  • Really? A Goat? Ask the Air Force pilots who have flown the F-15 if its a goat and see what they say. The F-15 has been the best fighter ever made until recently when the F-22 was put into service.

  • I was an avionics tech on the F-15...so I knew a handful of pilots...they generally tend to love planes with %100 win ratio.

  • Who wouldn't? So what is so wrong with it? And what do you think about the F-22?

  • Nothing is wrong with the F-15 besides the insane amount of operating hours they've racked up over the past 30 years. F-22 is superior in practically every way and hypothetically will be the GOAT, but it has alot to prove.

  • No doubt the F-15 is the best fighter jet to have ever graced the air combat realm (second only to the glorious P-51 in my book). I mean cmon, 100 to 0 record? I don't care WHO those F-15 pilots faced, they still were facing dangerous pilots, in dangerous MIGs, with fatal missiles and guns.

No matter how you cut it, the F-15 is the best of the best.

  • Well, the second best... F-14 was a little faster, have better manouverability at low speeds and higher angles of attack. And have a AIM-54... ;-)

But no doubt, until JSF and F-22 won't be fully operational in higher counts (music of future, though), these two fighters will be the best of what ever flown (R.I.P. Tomcat - F/A-18 is only poor stopgap...)

  • First off R-tard the F-15 Broke all the speed records when it was revealed to the public. The F-15 was build after the F-14

  • Who cares which is "better" the F-14 or F-15? Both are amazing planes, I personally liked the F-14 better, and it always was my dream plane to fly when I was younger.

The F-14 DID have an armament advantage with the Phoenix missile over the F-15, and the F-14D model could actually achieve higher speeds...HOWEVER, anything above I think 500-600MPH, and the F-15 could outturn the F-14. Plus it could outclimb the F-14. Both were superb though.

  • "F/A-18 is only a poor stopgap" The super hornet is easily the best operational naval fighter aircraft in the world.

  • "naval" ;]

  • No it's not.

The best by far is the Naval derivative of the Tornado. The F-18 sucks. It's cheap. It works, but it's damn cheap. Janky.

  • the f-15 c model as shown in the break up will be around for a few more decades the airforce will begin to scrap the f-15 A and B models to gain parts to the more advanced C,D, and E models...they need something before the f-22 can fully replace a superb fleet!

  • american superglue sux lol

  • i think the paper mache hadn't dryed yet or it was raining

  • F-15 is the only undefeated fighter in the history of the world except for planes that have never seen combat.

  • True, however what have they faced? Some decent migs 28's in Iraq, but with REALLY bad pilots.

That's like saying the super bowl champions beat the shit outa my local pee wee league every time they faces.. well YEA NO SHIT.

  • It has 4 mig29 kills in the Balkins conflict and 100.5 kills to zero loses since introduction in 1974. Not too shabby. And if it's the superbowl champ and makes all it's enemies look like the pee wee league teams, good. That's the whole idea. The goal is not to have competition and good sport. The goal is to dominate. And that's exactly what it has done.

  • Hey I agree with yea. It's a great platform. It's record speaks for itself. However you can see how my comparison is as ridiculous as the other.

  • It wouldn't matter, the Eagle can engage beyond visual range. Name an Eastern fighter that can do it.

  • they were MiG-29 fulcrums. the fulcrums are actually a very good fighter and are just as good as the f-15s. the pilots were just as good, it came down to a battle of tactics, weapons and training. if you were to put our pilots in a fulcrum the could possibly defeat a f-15

  • Slight nitpick

The F-15 was developed to take on the MIG-25 not the MIG-29.

That being said with a 103 to 0 kill ratio the F-15 is an aircraft to be dealt with (assuming it flys again).

    F-22 vs MIG-29...no contest.

  • it all comes down to the pilot

  • lolz

  • the f-15 is the best jet ever....i love it...love it so much

  • The F-15 fleet has been going through wear and tear. It's natural that they'll start failing after hundreds of hours of use. Like the F-14 the F-15 might go through some type of retirement.

  • The F-15 needs to go. We need more better planes.

  • No, you need to save Africa by giving the 1% of your GDP because thats what it takes from a power like your country to save those dozens of kids that DIE every day. K dumbass ?

  • There isn't a better plane right now. Yes, I know the F-22 is bad-ass with incredible capabilty, but it won't be in service fully until for at least another 5 years. The squadrons that are just now getting them have alot of mods and tweaks to do on them, plus, believe it or not, ALL F-15's have some features (because they've been modded)the F-22 doesn't have yet.

  • good video, thanks!

  • yeah, and some people actually believe that aircraft alluminum alloy could punch a hole into steel & concrete when an f-15 could break apart in air like that.

  • wow i never saw this on the news, thanks for uploading!!

  • what about the raptor?

  • omg!

  • Well at least our old people have drugs.

  • very nice report

  • first

  • Good video!
