  • THIS! I call conducting with vision, imagination, and understanding of the tragic story Tchaikovsky (who caught on to Lord Byron's manic suffering all too well in the poem) is trying to tell. And to think Tchaikovsky was, at best, lukewarm to the idea when Balakiriev proposed it to him!
