in genenral, most of the characters seem pretty well-off compared to the 80s. i guess i should have been more specific. i meant the old-school working-class during the early 80s, living hand to mouth. there was massive unemployment, the unions were losing their power. Thatcher was in and old Labour was on the way out. EE just seemed grittier than now. The characters just seemed to have a harder edge. Guess the times changed, and the show reflects it, but it is still a show, not real life

Den was shot in the arm, he fell in the canal, escaped, went to Jan Hammond, who then planted his ring in the canal to make everyone think he was dead. One of the Firm Members then got shot and dumped in the canal, Vinnicome or something, and Jan helped Den flee to Spain. Vinnicomes body was the one they found and Sharon identified, but decomposition made it hard to indentify.
