  • Astonishing footage.

  • if i paid all that money to use the admiral's club and they brought in a bunch of whiney relatives of economy class passengers, i would be pissed. i hope AA was decent enough to give refunds to the superior first class passengers they disturbed

  • I remember passing by the next day to go to the Indy 500 & seeing body part markers & smoldering..my late grand parents & uncle were driving in from NY & passing by right as it went down they saw the dive & fire plume...

  • Poor Catholic ethnics. Ethnically cleansed from Chicago by uncivilized southern protestants. Then an airplane crashes into their home. God bless them.

  • The way American Airlines treated the families of the victims was criminal. Do some research and find out. As far as I know, their policies have not changed.

  • @crispycritterz Yeah, I've seen several air disaster docs about this event, a couple of which went into some detail about the behavior of AA towards the survivors--it really was shocking and disgusting what the airline and their lawyers put the families through. I'm glad they've been called out on it but I don't know either if their survivor policies really are more humane now or if any changes have just been cosmetic PR.

  • Jim Gibbons who was on the scene was as good as it got in Chicago. He passed just some years back actually this whole news team was legendary on ABC7 for years.

  • @depaul11 I remember he died of cancer in 1994.

  • The blizzard of '79 and 191's crash - it was a tough year in Chicago. My dad worked for TWA at O'Hara and he saw the fireball from his office. I remember how he and his coworkers considered the pilot of 191 a hero for not crashing in the trailer park or oil tanks and making this disaster far worse. My heart goes out to all of the victims, families and friends affected by this terrible tragedy.

  • A memorial is finally a reality. Its about time. I understand that American Airlines will provide the accurate passenger/crew manifest,as well as $20,000 USD to help with the build. I am glad this is finally happening. Respect being shown for all those lost on a very dark day in aviation history.

  • FINALLY!!!!! After 32 years tomorrow (5.25.11) I heard that a Memorial will be finally completed in the fall of 2011. As the husband of one of 272 people who died, I will be there. Took a bunch of grade school kids to finally get this moving.

  • @138ozzilla Yeah, I just heard this on the news. I'm glad it's finally happening and I'm so sorry for your loss.

  • @138ozzilla I can't believe it has taken 32 years for this to happen.

  • My 12th birthday that day. I'll never forget this tragic disaster.

  • there is a warehouse now on the site of the crash.if you google the locaton you see truck trailers lined up next to the trailer park and a building where the field was.

  • This is really great reporting. The modern networks should be so professional. They are not hyping the story, just telling it without being drones. The explanation of the crash was exactly right. That man was good.

  • I for the life of me, can't understand why a memorial is absent from this site? Huge loss of life, and countless lives changed forever because of this. Just think how many people drive by this field daily, and have no idea what a sad history it has. It is still the single worst airplane accident (Non Terror Related),in U.S. history.

  • 8:50 “Oh yes it could have been.”
