It was mentioned how old this video is. Wow! I had no idea. I'm still laughing at this 30 years later. My wife never got this show so I divorced her. No, just kidding. This skit is brilliant. It is great to have the ability to see this again thanks to the Internet. SCTV was one of the very few shows that I would actually schedule into my weekend during the '70s.
I'm watching SNL while watching this clip, I turned this up so I could watch it again. There is no way I could have done this part without crackin up and the director say cut continuously
"He makes me want to just stand up and stretch" How great is that line? I totally agree with Richardjduke's assessment. Levy has done some fabulous work throughout the years, and his role in American Pie was under recognized and brilliant!
"He makes me want to just stand up and stretch" How great is that line? I totally agree with Richardjduke's assessment. Levy has done some fabulous work throughout the years, and his role in American Pie was under recognized and brilliant!
Lmao!!!!!!! Eugene levy and the sctv cast were brilliant. That pause and delivery of Cmon during celebrate .Classic! And that half dead smurk on Levys face during the whole bit. Rock on SCTV and thank you to everyone who posted these great episodes!
I remember Perry Como was a presenter at one of the Emmy shows a few years back, and was presenting for best comedy series. He read the nominees, and he got to SCTV and announced "SCTV...." looking to the rear of the auditorium, he added "m favorite fan club"...(with a smile on his face). You could hear one of the crew yelp in surprise. He definitely loved this skit. And it is one of my favories
@PacRimJim what do you mean especially Eugene Levy? He co-wrote and acted in some of the greatest comedies of the past 15 years. Best In Show...Waiting For Guffman...A Mighty Wind. And his work in the first American Pie was classic. I feel he did the other ones for money. But he did create a great character the first time out.
Thanks for posting, but my memory tells me that this is not the complete clip. Do any SCTV fans recall an interview bit with Moranis playing a British hipster who is interviewed after the show, talking about how much he digs Perry and has all his albums? I wonder why that was deleted from the DVD box set - - perhaps this is the syndicated version? It's still brilliant, but I do miss that clip!
eugene levy was the best actor of the group, this was the funniest show on the air in the 70's. Thank you for uploading these, for those of us old enough to remember Perry Como this never fails to completely crack me up.
@eilujnosliw They're all brilliant, but I'm on the same page as you: Levy was particularly awesome, and my personal favorite. His range was unreal, and he could evoke so many emotions: from smarmy and smug, to poignant and pitiful. Amazing actor.
@eilujnosliwhahahah, i agree with you this was one of the funniest shows ,and this was one of my favorites sketch.too bad we dont get to see this kind of shows anymore.
One of the best things about this brilliant sketch is RIck Moranis looking especially preposterous in a tight-curl wig prancing around stage. But what an unforgettable image of Perry lying catatonic: "Celebrate good times ... come on..."
@AmericanPowerBase I'm sure we'd all like you to enlighten us: ".....like Obama loves blac......": Please, finish this bit of racist brilliance! Another Teabag charmer, ay? Welcome to my page; now stay off in the future, jackass!
I remember the crew of SCTV sent Perry a letter apologizing if they offended him by the parodies. Como wrote back saying he wasn't offended at all. He laughed his head off!!
Let's split the difference on this and say that, while the audio quality could be improved, the clip makes certain people laugh — particularly me. Alright then. On to the Holy Land to solve THAT problem...
Great! Thanks! I last saw that skit at the Porthole Tavern in Ship Bottom, NJ almost 30 years ago and its still as funny (I like to bow-gee) as I remembered it... (even without the draft beers and the pitchers of Kamikazis) Thanks again!
Funny clip but... I get really tired of the massive technical problems on these videos. This clip has really low level audio on the right channel only.
Unfortunately the on the streets interview segments with Rick Moranis' British character and Joe Flaherty's bespectacled goofy character have been lost.
I can't thank you enough for posting all these SCTV bits. I am losing my voice from laughing. I remember so many of them so clearly and now I can share them with my kids. Thank you!
WTF does MORONis have to do with this skit abacab! Perry HOMO was played by Eugene Levy, who was probably the funniest of the crew! You gotta LOVE Bobby Bittman, c'mon!!!The whole cast was something special. Only the Canuckleheads can appreciate the sarcastic humor, that goes over the Yanks heads!!! lol
Hey, I'm an American who loved this show. I got this show when I was 13 and it was syndicated here in the States. BTW, I'm a huge fan of "The Newsroom", too.
Dave Thomas in a cardigan, ''It was a little too uptempo for me, but I still love him.''
I thought a funny kicker might have been to cut to the audience, all of whom were sleeping.Dunno, that might be considered too mean-spirited.

Sad, though, that many of them wasted their talents in unimaginative Hollywood movies. Such a waste. Especially Dave Thomas and Eugene Levy.
