The problem isn't presenting Bond as a three dimensional character but it's tough to find the right balance between an action hero and a thinking/feeling person. It takes just the right script, the right director, and, of course, the right actor. I think Craig has done an incredible job mixing Bond's nearly-superhuman abilities with a certain level of vulnerability.

yes it sucks because he would have been the Bond of the late 80's. I just a kid in the 80's but I remember when Bronson had the Bond role and then Remington Steele decided they wanted another season. They cancelled the RS series after a few episodes.

James Bond had such interesting inventions! Imagine trying to eat with that tray in the cafeteria, from The Spy Who Loved Me! There'd be food all over the place! o_0 That'd make a kick ass April Fool's Day joke, though! I don't get that invention on the car with the hoses, in Thunderball, either. Where the hell does all the water come from?!

I didn't like the way OHMSS ended. Good movie, but it's the only Bond movie that really depressed me with the ending, not the way a Bond movie should end!

bought volume 2 of the ultimate edition, it had LTK on it. It was awesome, too bad that lawsuit lasted 6 years, would of loved to see him in GE, he didn't even look a day older since LTK in the mid 90's

I like this 3 dimension aspect, I think it makes the character more interesting, deeper! And it's a weapon producers sought to turn Bond more interesting than ever, after it took a misdirection with "Die Another Day"...Brosnan is my favorite Bond, nothing wrong with him, and his first Bond's are perfect action-packed, but from time to time it's necessary to re-think and re-direct the Bond movies, as it has been previously...so Craig's Bond films are valid as a re-direction of it, sure!

I have to wonder who made this docummentary. All that stuff about the books and then a load of people saying Lazenby and Dalton were the worst portrayals of the character. Anyone who's read the books will know that Dalton was by far the best portrayal of Flemming's Bond. And while Lazenby isn't much of an actor, OHMSS was one of the most faithful adaptations.

casino royale was the only bond movie that was done twice it was a movie that came out on tape way befor connery was thought of..the bond series was on video tape then it hit the theaters but i will watch them all as long as i live but i will say quantum of salace that bond film was backwards the gun barrel was at the end of the movie for the first time and with craig they play the bond theme at the end on the credits and not during the movie like the old ones

Casino Royale was very much a Bond movie if you think about it. It brought back the old style of Bond with a new twist and was the best since Goldeneye.

Quantum of Solace, on the other hand threw more than half of the Bond elements out the window and was too much like "any other movie." I hope they never make that mistake again.

Well, he did also have that part right before it, where he's thinking about everything that just happened, and what he's going to do, and he was certainly angry at that point. To me, that is what Quantum was. Taking that moment, where he's talking about how he's going after this threat (SMERSH), going after the the threat that creates spies, and whatnot, and making it into a movie....

I think one of the comments hit it best when they mentioned Bond being a product of his day. People who are down on the Dalton films because they perceive him as too serious tend to forget that his films were a reaction to the Moonraker or View to a Kill type of films that just weren't working in the late 80s. Moore, who was great in the 70s, fit the style of film making at that time. I remember when Living Daylights came out and the sighs of relief that we were getting a serious film.

every one who plays bond is specifically right for that movie, pierce was perfect for the 90's and even in die another day, but now its a new generation and now its up to craig to do be good for the future movies and who knows if he will continue after his 3rd, there might even be a new bond when craig is done, every bond is perfect for that specific movie, its not about who is the best, its who is perfect for that movie. but i personally loved the pierce movies.

Bond is not just an action hero. He is in many ways a bad guy. He is the bad guy's good guy in a way. He is nothing more then a killer with a government job and great taste. That is him at is must effective. He could at any moment become a villian if it were not for his belief in king and country. It is very much so an acting role and even Moore said it's a hard acting role. Thats my point of view at any rate. The films have many fans and that leads to many points of view.
