The problem isn't presenting Bond as a three dimensional character but it's tough to find the right balance between an action hero and a thinking/feeling person. It takes just the right script, the right director, and, of course, the right actor. I think Craig has done an incredible job mixing Bond's nearly-superhuman abilities with a certain level of vulnerability.
Stupid blonde woman! I'm glad she's not in charge of Bond otherwise she would have vetoed Casino Royale. I think there's a bit of human emotion from Bond in there!
My list of best bond actors: 1 Sean Connery: the first and the best he was the best bond!!! 2 Timothy Dalton: for me the only bond that came close to being the best really underated wish he did more bond films pity!! 3: Roger Moore brilliant charm to the role he was a good bond for his time!! 4 pierce Bronson overated bond nothing special was good in goldeneye but that's it!! 5 George lazenby was not bad deserved another film!! 6 Daniel craig nothing brillant average!!!!
Brosnan was a great Bond him and Connery were the best it was a good time for him to leave when he did because he was getting old I wish he got the role in the 80's so he would have done more then 4 films
@12skolvikings I agree. Remington Steele had him by the balls there... They knew they had the next Bond and wanted to milk him for as much as they could get before he took on the OFFICIAL Bond role for EON.
yes it sucks because he would have been the Bond of the late 80's. I just a kid in the 80's but I remember when Bronson had the Bond role and then Remington Steele decided they wanted another season. They cancelled the RS series after a few episodes.
funny how they say in this Bond can not be 3 dimensional cause the next Bond Daniel Craig proved to be the first Bond to get critical acclaim and for playing him very seriously
I bet if they saw the future of bond now they would soot themselves. they tried way too hard to develop a 00's bond and now it's like watching Moonraker 2 &3 with it's overboard special effects and under use of weapons. That's not what Bond is all about Daniel Craig
Bond having his wife killed was perfect for the series if not for that particular film. It added more depth to his character, so people need to lay the fuck off.
Its obvious that blonde lady hadn't read any of the original books. If she had she would know that Bond was VERY 3 dimensional. Charming on the one hand but flawed on the other.
Timothy probably was the best Bond.Of course he may not be as loveable as Roger Moore or even Sean Connery. But he played Bond in the realest sense possible and I doubt anyone will come close to what he done.
yeah i agree the blonde women is fucking stupid James bond is meant too be an Assassin a cold blooded killer dalton and craig are prob the cloest ones in terms of the novel and the Character of bond hes not a light hearted guy who goes around shooting ppl he just happens to be working for the good side which is MI6
This makes me sad. Bond, any Bond was good. Why they took a 40 year franchise and format than millions loved and turned it into this James Blonde garbage I will never know. Daniel Craig isn't fit to clean George Lazenby's boots with his tongue. If you wanna say Casino Royale was a good movie, fine. Sure. But it isn't Bond. Sean, Roger, George, Tim, and Pierce. I hope they get their heads on straight again and start making them like they used to. Fun.
"Undoubted", we'll be making more films with him (referring to Brosnan). Well, no...not quite. One thing all fans agree upon is this: Michael G. Wilson has stayed too long at the party.
Dalton was way ahead of his time. He is a superb classicly trained actor and a first class Bond. Licence To Kill was simply 20 years ahead of it's time.
James Bond had such interesting inventions! Imagine trying to eat with that tray in the cafeteria, from The Spy Who Loved Me! There'd be food all over the place! o_0 That'd make a kick ass April Fool's Day joke, though! I don't get that invention on the car with the hoses, in Thunderball, either. Where the hell does all the water come from?!
I didn't like the way OHMSS ended. Good movie, but it's the only Bond movie that really depressed me with the ending, not the way a Bond movie should end!
bought volume 2 of the ultimate edition, it had LTK on it. It was awesome, too bad that lawsuit lasted 6 years, would of loved to see him in GE, he didn't even look a day older since LTK in the mid 90's
I like this 3 dimension aspect, I think it makes the character more interesting, deeper! And it's a weapon producers sought to turn Bond more interesting than ever, after it took a misdirection with "Die Another Day"...Brosnan is my favorite Bond, nothing wrong with him, and his first Bond's are perfect action-packed, but from time to time it's necessary to re-think and re-direct the Bond movies, as it has been previously...so Craig's Bond films are valid as a re-direction of it, sure!
I have to wonder who made this docummentary. All that stuff about the books and then a load of people saying Lazenby and Dalton were the worst portrayals of the character. Anyone who's read the books will know that Dalton was by far the best portrayal of Flemming's Bond. And while Lazenby isn't much of an actor, OHMSS was one of the most faithful adaptations.
casino royale was the only bond movie that was done twice it was a movie that came out on tape way befor connery was thought of..the bond series was on video tape then it hit the theaters but i will watch them all as long as i live but i will say quantum of salace that bond film was backwards the gun barrel was at the end of the movie for the first time and with craig they play the bond theme at the end on the credits and not during the movie like the old ones
Pierce was good as Bond. You can see him asking for a vodka martini shaken not stirred. Craig is more like "Hey dere buddy, me names James Bond gimme a beer and don't forget the change."
Well, I've seen lots of people complain about Casino for having character development and actually making Bond (for the first time since License to Kill - in my opinion) seem like he may actually die. So, she may still feel the same....
"What happens to Bond after Brosnan is in the future...." Unfortunately the future is now and it is everything else than what we expected from Bond. Now it is just like any other movie.
Casino Royale was very much a Bond movie if you think about it. It brought back the old style of Bond with a new twist and was the best since Goldeneye.
Quantum of Solace, on the other hand threw more than half of the Bond elements out the window and was too much like "any other movie." I hope they never make that mistake again.
What pig-ignorance. It was more a Bond movie than half the movies ever were. Flemming's Bond has dimension, the movies are usually the charicture/false dichotomy of the Bond name.
Well, he did also have that part right before it, where he's thinking about everything that just happened, and what he's going to do, and he was certainly angry at that point. To me, that is what Quantum was. Taking that moment, where he's talking about how he's going after this threat (SMERSH), going after the the threat that creates spies, and whatnot, and making it into a movie....
well I don't think so I think Craig's bond is diffrent from the others like Pirce, Roger, Sean, and Tim I think what's holding Craig back is because his flims are very diffrent and I think thats what people look at but I think Craig is going to be a great bond he did well in the late 2000's and he is going get beter in 2010's when he has his gunbarrel sequnce in begaining of his next flim after QOS Craig going to be awsome in his future movies

I wish was still doing Bond Flims. He is much better than the current Bond actor. However, anyone that does not like Sir Roger Moore as James Bond, is not a real Bond Fan. He is the best.
I think Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig proved that lady's comments wrong about Bond being one-dimensional in Goldeneye and Casino Royale respectively.
I think one of the comments hit it best when they mentioned Bond being a product of his day. People who are down on the Dalton films because they perceive him as too serious tend to forget that his films were a reaction to the Moonraker or View to a Kill type of films that just weren't working in the late 80s. Moore, who was great in the 70s, fit the style of film making at that time. I remember when Living Daylights came out and the sighs of relief that we were getting a serious film.

That blonde woman is so wrong. As if Lazenby and Dalton took it too seriously as an acting role. I think Brosnan and Craig are far more full on when it comes to the acting.
@mvfF1Fanatic yeah I felt insulted by that because OHMSS is one of the best Bond films and Dalton was an amazing Bond who shown vulnerability and Ian Fleming's vision of Bond
@RyanDahlReturns I also think it one of the best Bond films as there is a bit more to the plot and in my opinion is the best John Barry score - although I would have to put Live and Let Die ahead which he did not write.
I agree, Timothy Dalton was one of the best. I really wish he would've done more, and they hardly gave George Lazenby a chance but I still think the best has yet to come.
Bond is not just an action hero. He is in many ways a bad guy. He is the bad guy's good guy in a way. He is nothing more then a killer with a government job and great taste. That is him at is must effective. He could at any moment become a villian if it were not for his belief in king and country. It is very much so an acting role and even Moore said it's a hard acting role. Thats my point of view at any rate. The films have many fans and that leads to many points of view.
