Inexplicably sold as the Audi 5000 in North America, this is the car that nearly led to Audi's demise in the North American market. Or rather, the bogus "unintended acceleration" argument against this car nearly did, in addition to their bad way of handling the situation. As usual, it was the fault of users.
A nice car in its day; I always wanted one.
Also a huge influence on the 1986 Ford Taurus that took North America by storm.
@karskot The Audi record was in 1982. Citroen launched the XM in 1989 and while the XM indeed had a better drag factor than the 100 (the XM's drag factor was of 0.28), the Opel Calibra, also launched in 1989, had a drag factor of 0.26.

I've allways called it the Audi One-hundred myself and others I know call it the same. However it could also be called the Audi hundred.
The Drag factor of .30 is a bit dubious though. On the Audi test cars it was .30 but the production model was different. Look at the car in the ad, it was a test car as it had no N/S mirror and it had 155/165 profile tyres to cut down on drag. All this to beat the drag factor set by the Ford Sierra.

@dougisamug Welcome to the 1980's, when the passenger side exterior mirror was an optional extra even on expensive cars.
