The G55 AMG is more expensive than the G500, so not only does it have better brakes, suspension, and engine, but the luxury department does not suffer either. So it's either more luxurious than the G500 or it's on par with it :) Go to AMG website and you can see all the specs on it
I'm seriously considering buying the G Class now, just need to take one out for a test run, already taken an ML 270 with all the top spec on it and liked it, but the G Class seems to look stronger and be better built than the ML ?, i am sure i will be convinced immediately after test driving the G Wagon, not the new shape though. The G and ML are completely different class of offroad vehicle. It sounds like you have a lot more reading to do before committing to this for 4x4 purposes.
G-Class: Solid axles front and back, locking differentials, better approach, departure and breakover angles.
ML-Class: Independent front suspension, no lockers ... it's a grocery getter with 4x4.
True, G and ML are completely different, but the ML has fully independent suspension all around, body on frame construction (like in trucks) and it's not a grocery getter 4x4. Actually, it's pretty capable in poor conditions (my parent's have it and during the snow storm here it was AMAZING - better than my Bronco :O

Sorry for not replying sooner, its a 4 litre twin turbo V8 diesel which they stopped fitting to the G wagen 2 years ago and put the more eco frendly 3 litre V6 cdi in them. Although they are now fitting the same engine into the GL but calling it it a 420...

Last time I checked, a Land Cruiser, which is built in a factory by robots, has better reliability than pretty much any car out there on the market (as well as awesome on-road and off-road performance). Don't get me wrong - I love the G - it's probably my favorite SUV (well, ML63 is super nice) but 100k+ is a price tag that's hard to justify :)
No its not a Cummings. Its probley one of the many Diesels that Mercedes made. 2.4 and 2.5 4cyl Diesel / 3.0L 5cyl Diesel / 4.0 Supercharged V8 Diesel. I dont know whitch one the vehicle has in the video.
These are good for mild trails and some extreme off roading.. Those are very heavy will sink in anything too soft. Not many people want to spend 60K on a high end Mercedes SUV and go off roading with it. But I do love the Diesel that it has in it. He needs a bigger lift and Tires use the right pedal little more.
mercedes GL is an american car made for soccer moms. The name 'off roading PACKAGE' says enough. Two metal sidebars don't make an SUV a good off-road car. The mercedes G was off-road to begin with.
