In essence, a simple rock-n-roller who had a muscial gift that we could relate to in the raw, exposed moments of anxiety or in the simple, sweet, moments that brought relief. And for that we have been Blessed. Thanks for the upload. -M.
I hear you Neiccee.I had a lot of great times in my teens and especially in my 20's.I wanted to grow up fast and the 70's and 80's passed by so quickly. While I disagreed with alot of my parent's ways, they were right on the money on how fast life goes. Bob Seger amongst many musicians and concerts I attended are etched in my memories and the people who were a part of my life. Mom and Dad are 79 and 84 and tell me to "stay tuned." It goes faster,I am now 52 with heart failure. Keep the faith!!!!
It's not on M ain Street in Ann Arbor, Michigan but it's a restaurant called ANGELOS, you know from the famous song, Lets go to Angelossss.....it's right by the University Hospital on the corner.. best breakfast I have EVER had. Just amazing
I remember going to see Bob Seger when I was 9 months pregnant with my second son..and not being able to leave to go to the bathroom because I didn't want to miss not 1 of his songs!! <3 this guy!!
Reminds me of when my grandparents used to play this song a lot. I miss those times when we used to drive down main street and play this song in the car. I'm only 16 but I know good music and this is great.
December 9th he's somewhere in between Normal, IL and St. Louis (passed a sign on the way to Missouri, lol). Wish I could go if only to hear this live...
I'm 58 but listening to this song is like being transported in a time machine to much simpler time. Only lasts as long as the song but well worth the trip. Thanks
@AaronisRadder Man thats funny. Im reading this a week later and it got only 2 likes. I can just see it like some show. "You got 2 days" and the the poster just sits back in his chair with his arms behind his head waiting for the likes to come in. Then it says "1 Week later" and it pops up 2 likes. That's good comedy.
Bob Seger reminds me of those good old days and things were so easy in my life. The years have gone bye so fast since I used to listen to him with all my friends partying away, now times have changed for me at 45 I found out I have Cancer and many other disorders but I don't complain I just listen to the oldies and it brings me back to those wonderful times I had to enjoy :)
@Neiccee What you say really hits a chord with me. My life seems to fit happiness into a song of the quality of this song. I heard it on the radio, and the only thing that could come to my face was a smile. I'm jealous you had this music to grow up to. I want you to know. I also have grown up to this music. Although not with friends, the best feelings I can have are with loved ones and listening to this tune. God bless you for growing up to this inspiration.
@camby911 You have lived in a way that I never will know except only in my own love for the music. I hope you beat this shitty cancer. Live as pure as you can, and hopefully you can supersede this mother fcker. Beat it. Live on. Love on. You lucky fck. This is how you used to party. Me too my friend. Me too.
@Neiccee Coming from Michigan I have seen Seger probably 25 times. You do NOT set down during his concerts, even before he got famous. The man rocks huge
For me, Main Street reminds me of Bruno Ward's A GoGo on Broad St in Augusta, Ga. God so long ago when I was a young man. Angie was her name. Such a Goddess as she danced. Gone are those days. Pray Angie has a good life. Hell, I can t compain. But, I do miss those days.
the only reason i can think of why we dont have music like this anymore is cause maybe all the good songs an good band names have been taken? lol thats all i got
I was born in '91, I'm white, a rapper, and pretty much only listen to rap. BUT, my dad loves bob Seger, it rubbed off on me. Along with Eddie Money, .38 Special, Styx, Nazereth, and many others from this genre. I can honestly say i'm jealous of those who got to grow up around this music.
@CalKansasCity: Props to you, Cal, for acknowledging the quality of music before your generation, which not every younger person is willing to do. I saw 38 Special live back in the 1980s and it was one of the highlights of my musical life. I used to play guitar and bass professionally, and those guys are superb musicians. Just listened to their music today in fact. Seger I have seen three times live, and all three shows were great - just unbelievable. The "Like a Rock" Tour was amazing...
@Jefyniggs91MK3 Old J-45.New Ones sound almost as good.Just have to know how to play it.Great nostagialic aspect on that one though.I'd give my right nut..
The famous lead guitar melody in this song is played by Pete Carr of the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, in case anyone is interested. The boys down at MS have cut hundreds - maybe thousands - of hits over the years.
hey hazel10987, what an insult Einstein. If you know so much about great guitarists, then why in the hell isn't PETE CARR in this video, I mean,,,,,,,,don't you think he EARNED a spot since he is the one playing intro on this song????
My favorite part about this song is the guitar so I think it's funny how you put pictures of a bunch of guitarists because one of the reason this song's awesome is because of the guitar.Good slideshow for a awesome song :)
you've got to be kidding- i'm a pro but not a guitarist-- even i know you left out cats like ingmar malmstein,, not to mention alvin lee-- give 10 years after a listen-- that's virtuousity-- get a grip man
How bout everybody enjoys the damn song and stops bickering about the pictures and which guitarist is better........Nobody cares if ted nugent is better than most of them. listen to the goddamn song
@djs0793 I was stationed outside Anchorage, AK in the early '70's. We used to do the clubs in town ~ they were wide open strip joints then ~ we'd finish at a place called PJ's where I loved watching a lovely little dancer dance to this tune. Takes me back.....
people are arguing about Nugent and Seger on here? The icons of Detroit rock? They are both great, let's just shut the fuck up and enjoy the music. Fuck, some people just have to bitch..
This song always takes me back to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, March-May, 1969, down on "D" Street, in Lawton, OK, of a Saturday night. Had one bar there with a little blond babe dancing in the window (in a bikini), and I would press my nose to the glass when she was there, until the "boys" dragged my love struck ass off to get drunk, and brawl with whomever wanted to brawl with drunks...sure brings back some great memories!!
Thanks Bob, I done been there, and YOU have stated it perfectly.
GREAT Masters of their craft, each and every one of them. It is sad to think some of the great ones are no longer with us, like Mr. Les Paul. The song is terrific - Segar remains an American Classic in his own right. I think the matching of great guitar MASTERS to this song was a great touch hazel10987!!!!!
Saw Bob Seger three times on the night moves tour. When the opening guitar riff started EVERYONE got quiet and stopped moving........Id never seen that before. The tone of that guitar just stopped everything. It was beautiful
This video is so beautiful and such a great song to this..... thank you!!!! I love Segar! He was my first rock n roll experience. Then it was bands like Bon Jovi... American Rock for sure! Older and proud :)
Thank you. Wonderful song! In the 70ies I turned on the radio an noticed this song on the radio for the 1st time. I got a shiver all over. From this time on I've been a fan of Bob Seeger and the Silver Bullet Band.
A dollar in my pocket, no place to go, standing on Main street, sweet girl going by. want to save her, but i'm a nobody on Main street, sweet Jesus save all those on Main Street.
The guitar sets the mood perfectly, so do the lyrics, the piano, everything. Makes me wonder what this bird looked like dancing in the smoke filled room
very rarely are there songs that sound exactly like the title, and this is one of them :D i could hear the instrumental of this song and not know the song, yet i would still be like "this makes me think of being on mainstreet" lol

With a shitty job on Liverpool's dock road, the rain, always the rain, there's Bob Seger to brighten up my day - brilliant song.
