Some of you guys are wrong, the movie is not based on Sherlock Holmes books. It's based on Lionel Wigram's comics. that's the reason why the main character doesn't look like the Sherlock of Conan Doyle in many ways.

The movie looks good, Downey will do a great work, I'm sure. Just watch the movie without thinking you will see a Doyle's story

it's called an INTERPRETATION people. u know, a portrayal, an elucidation, a representation...there's actually a literary term for it used in creative writing and film theory...they don't have to stick to the books exactly in fact they shouldn't. try making book into a movie, let's see if you don't lose your audience in the first five minutes bec. u followed every word in the book. better yet let's see if you can even translate every feeling, thought, sensation written into audio-video format.

I dont agree with how hollywood is portraying Holmes. Its ashame, but almost nesscesary for hollywood to portrat holmes like this. Not many people would be interested in seeing this movie it was truly holmesesque. Which might make you ask, "why even make the movie then?" But as its been pointed out before, half the movies being released are remakes or inspired by previous movies. Films and movies have been around for over 150 years. Its kinda hard to come up with a truly original idea any more.

Actually in several of the stories he shows a more stronger side. One in which a bad guy came in and threatened them by bending a iron poker to show his strength, Holmes laughs and bends it back. Not to mention taking on a few guys at a time that had attacked them, and let us not forget "The Final Problem" where he finally kills Moriarty in a hand to hand over the Reichenbach Fallsand has to climb the sheer wall of the mountain to get away from Moriaities killers.

To me there was only ONE who could consume and portray the essence of what Sherlock Holmes was like.

yes, if you actually read the sir arthor conan doyle stories Holmes is rather an popus ass. He is almost always right, almost always smarter than those around him and flaunts it. He routinely would get into fights, verbaly and physically, with the local poilce over cases and praised the use of cocaine which would "stimulate the mind and body" (direclty from the text i might add) the idea of him wearing the goofy hat and being more of a professor came about later by other writers,

Star Trek got a reboot and everybody was complaining about how it was going to ruin the intelligence of the franchise, yet everyone loved the new Star Trek. This is a reboot, and it looks like it could be really successful.

Also, it's good to see Guy Ritchie breaking away from his typical British gangster films, which don't get me wrong, are really good, but we just want to see some more variety.

I thouhgt the same after I had seen the movie. It looks like a story about superhero but not about Sherlock Holmes. Common story consists of a main guy, his girlfriend, his best friend who is always ready to help and the evil, which must be destroyed. Do not forget a great battle at the end and you get something similar to Iron man. Americans can make such films better than anybody else. But Sherlock Holmes is another story.

I've read all the Holmes stories, and he was physically fit and could box. Remember, this is a trailer, and any action scenes will wind up in the trailer. A film can be 92 minutes long and if there is one 2 minute fight scene, every one of those 2 minutes will be in the trailer.

You know, the "real" Sherlock Holmes has been done many times. He is the most filmed fictional character of all time when you include all of the television. My favorite Sherlock is still Basil Rathbone and yet, in that series, all but 2 of the films were set in contemporary times (the 40's). This looks intelligent and when Guy Ritchie is on, he's pretty damn good.

It's always hard to tell from a preview what the full film will be like. To be honest, I'm glad there's a bit of humor here, because many adaptations take the whole thing too damn seriously. I'm glad though that we've got a Holmes who looks like a drug user and who actually gets into fights. Perhaps a scene recounting Holmes' knowledge of Bartitsu?
