Texas really isnt Southern. The population of Texas like quadrupled a few decades after the Civil War due to immigration of Europeans, etc. Parts of East Texas feel Southern and there are Southerners around but generally its a different feel.

when people call us down here stupid, i remind them of a few things. without the south, there would be no coke, no pepsi, no cnn, fed ex, william faulkner, corn bread, biscuits, waffle house, rem, b -52's, cartoon network and so on..... it isn't perfect down here, but it ain't hell either. leave us alone, we are not stupid, inbred, toothless residents of trailer parks. we have culture, education, class, and taste. take care.

When I drove down to Miami last year I was pulled over by the "cops" as soon as I crossed the Mason Dixie line because of the NY plates on my "foreign" car. the sheriff said "y'all aint from 'round here are y'all - I can tell by yer farrin car". I just said "yes sir" didn't want to wind up in a southern jail with no chance of justice. plus - no NPR in the south - that's alot of hellfire preacher radio!
