All of my cats have done it. It can be related to stress, senility if they are old. They get confused? I have one that I swear just likes the echo in the hallway. I had one who did that when her sister died. She still does it sometimes to this day and I lost her sister about 7-8 years ago.
My cat would be sleeping downstairs with us. We'd all get up and turn off the lights to go to bed. About a half our later she'd wake up and start making a sound like that, as if to say, "Where did everybody go?!?" She wouldn't stop until we called to her or went and got her! This kitty sounds like he's saying "Maru," maybe he likes the Maru in the box videos! LOL
My Maine Coon sounds exactly like that and sometimes he combines the sound with mad dashes from one end of the house to the other. sometimes, he jumps on top of the cat tree and bellows with his eyes facing the ceiling. Must be the breed?
Our 1,5 year old nutered maine coon (also male), makes this kind of sound when he wants to know where we are in the house. If we call him then he acknowledges that with a soft purring meow, and he comes walking to us. If we don't call him, he keeps making that throaty sound, and starts searching until he finds us, and then he makes a soft happy higher sound. Our cat came as kitten with his mother in our house, and it sounds like they used to when looking after each other, only much lower now.
I think he's lovely. Like my cat, he probably just wants a cuddle, or to go outside or something to eat. He might just be talking to you. My cat will sit and meow at me when i say things to her.
That's the irony - it's a male :-))). The owner of the house sad that he (the cat) was neutered a long time ago. I was told that the cat is at least some 13 to 15 yrs old.
I've searched Youtube for similar sounding videos, but found only one with a female-cat in 'heat' as you said.
my cat is weird i scratch him under the mouth and he starts swinging his leg like if he wanted to scratch himself

My cat used to do that when she was lonesome, or wanted my mother, whom she had declared her human, to return.

Mainecoons are always odd sounding and rather talkative cats. Very pretty kitty. Don't forget to brush often to keep mating down!

My boy cat does this when he wants to go outside and sometimes he just does it. I'm sure he is probably ok and just wants to talk to you.

Is it a female? If so, sounds like she's in 'heat'.
