  • God only knows how 50,000 blubbering Geordies are going to sound singing this on Saturday but with your help up in heaven we will do you proud, just like you did us proud every time you pulled a black and white shirt on. RIP Gary.

  • Rip Gary Speed - We shall always love you in The Toon !

It's funny I have lived in Australia for 5 years, every Aussie takes me as being welsh - I love it! proud to be called welsh and being a geordie!

Only one Gary speed never to be forgotten!

  • RIP Gary Speed. Toon legend. We love our football club but we also love the people who are proud to pull on the black and white shirt. Gary you was one those people. On Saturday you will hear us sing for you.

rest in heaven never forgotten !!

  • We'll be singing our hearts out! God bless you Gary.

  • RIP SPEEDO! Do him proud SJP I am sure you will. From Colin the Mackem ;-)

  • @colindlynch Loved that comment! As you know we love to hate each other but when a true supporter respects a player (and man) regardless of the colour of shirt he plays in then that is a true football fan. Respect you Mackem!!! Toon Toon black and with army!!!

  • I will be one of the 52,000 Toon Army singing this on Saturday at St James' Park. RIP Speedo.

  • @cla5hb0y68 Ditto. RIP Gary.

  • @cla5hb0y68 I wish I could be there, not a Newcastle fan but a proud Welshman, do him proud mate for those that cannot be there. I will be watching in tears.

  • rip speedo always in our minds

  • RIP Speedo

  • Love it! It reminds me of the rugby games at Arms Park.

  • AWESOME! Great rendition. My mom's family was from Averhavesp / Welshpool.

I think all that is left of Averhavesp is a 500 year old church.

Someday I am going to get there. :)

  • I'm not even Welsh and this hymn brings me to tears every time I hear it. Thank you for posting.

  • Great song and a great video. I can't wait to go back to Wales next June.

  • Sang at my Da's funeral too.

  • We sang this at my wedding 6 months ago. Beautiful setting on a lake in Kenya... the local pastor introduced it as, "The famous Irish Hymn"! I leant over and corrected him. He said, "I am so sorry if I have upset the people of Wales with my mistake. We shall now sing the famous Welsh hymn..."

  • If you can't get moved by this then you've already had it sung at your demise.

The Welsh might have a strange relationship with sheep but boy can they stir up passion in song.

  • @dtr748..this has nothing to do with rugby...its a traditional Welsh Hymn and sung beautifully in English aswell in Welsh. Its like Jerusalem being labelled an English rugby song!!!!

  • so much better sung in Welsh

  • Wales has loads of rugby songs. All belters.

  • i sung this song in my leavers service year 6 and all off the boys were literary crying cause it was our last day especially the girls

  • Great song.

  • If this doesn't show how good us Welsh are with songs and singers, then i do not know what will!

  • This is such a powerful song,I'm not a church goer but this makes me feel strength and always seems to be played at loved ones weddings and funerals xxxxxx

  • Finally found out what they're singing at the close. It's Welsh! O! am aros

Yn Ei gariad ddyddiau f'oes. Great song! And it's proper name is Cwm Rhondda

(Guide me O Thou Great Redeemer)

  • Great

  • This was sang at both my Granddad and Grandmother's funeral. It will be sang at mine too. The most moving hymm I have ever heard without a doubt.

  • @fluttergirl34 oh well, your text just brought a tear, wonderful peiece of music, I hope you are far far away from your funeral. . . . x may you always want to live and never live to want

  • @mrspenn1611 Thank you very much. What a lovely reply. I attended my uncle's funeral last week and Bread of heaven was chosen by my aunt. It's becoming a family tradition! It was when we had to sing it that I broke down. This piece of music gets me every time. I hear it and makes me proud to have welsh blood pumping through my veins. It's especially moving when a Welsh male voice choir sings it.

  • i only know about this coz trevor evans was singing it in fireman sam!! X'D

  • Prachtig lied en heel mooi gezongen

  • Wow. Gorgeous. Thank you!

In the peace, truth, limitless love and divine mercy of Jesus Christ

  • My grandmother was an organist and choir director for 62 years. She also taught at a Baptist seminary in the 50's.I spent 12 yrs growing up in her home in Valley Forge, PA.This was one of her favorites.

  • Interesting! My grandmother, too, was an organist for a long time at our Episcopal church--she also loved this hymn and "How Firm A Foundation" which is another of my favorites.

  • Nice and soothing...

  • Beautiful! Godbless you Rex.
