  • This is one of the best films I've ever seen. Wuthering Heights (1939), John Huston's "The Dead", & Cinema Paradiso likewise devastate me

  • pure merveille merci

  • Great scene, no cuts at all when it zooms to his face as he hears the truth. Not many actors can do that. Tremendous acting and film.

  • it's a rare American actor who can act with his face like this Lion.

  • @mowriter Who is American?

  • @biggus8888 : LOL, no one in this brilliant movie. I'm simply saying there are precious few American actors who can act as good as this man, as evidenced in this movie!

  • Superbe.

  • this classic scene is just so tragic.

  • Yves Montand was a real old fashioned performer who could sing and act. A rare talent.Un vrai bon acteur.

  • best scene in the history of cinema.... a real real tragedy.......

  • I think this is quite possibly the most memorable movie scene I have ever scene. After watching two long films - this is the ultimate sting in the tail. Incredible cinema.

  • saw this today in my french 3 class ( we saw Jean de Florette a couple of weeks ago) and i was just speechless.

  • What's the name of this old lady, need it for school :s

  • @speedstertje Delphine

Welche Tragig!!!!

  • devastating

  • This is a marvellously shot scene. It is mostly the blind old woman who is speaking, but most of the attention is on the great Yves Montand, playing a bitter old man who is totally crushed by what the old woman is telling him, which is all about a letter he should have got many years earlier from the woman he loved.

The words "Enceinte" and later "Vivant, mais bossu" finish him off.

  • a heartbreaking end to this most beautiful film, my heart breaks always at this point..

  • HEARTBREAKING ENDING TO THE FILM.

  • Fabuleux Montand!

  • These are my 2 favorite films ever. Montand's dramatic acting capability makes this scene go deep into your soul: his eyes, lips, skin make you feel all the suffering from this greek tragedy.

    "Chapeau bas" all'arte francese dall'Italia!

  • dont speak french so need subtitles

    very good tho

    also try Ryans Daugher

  • 6:00 best acting ever, it really looks how the book describes it.

  • exceptionnel

  • Superbe cette scene

  • it remembers me Sophocle

  • best film ever

  • The most emotive scene I have ever seen in a film.

  • I think this is one of the best films ever made [I recommend reading the book, too!]. I recorded it from the UK Channel 4. They're bound to show it again, sooner or later. It'll have English sub-titles too, but when you record it they seem to disappear. I don't know if there's any way around that.

  • incroyable, incredible

  • The best scene of my preferred movie. In other words, the best scene I ever seen in a movie. Montant at his best, deeply sincere, and heart-breaking.

  • Montand's performance is awesome, up there with the greatest ever !

  • I live where this film had been shot "la provence" in the south of france, it's a beautiful place, I like watching Marcel Pagnol's film. They're so powerful, and more for the one who live where the films take place, like me. see his film, they 're very beautiful I assure you

  • Whats the movies name....and is it available on english subtitles?

  • It is manon of the spring. Yes it is on dvd with subtitles. This scene is very very powerful if you had seen the film. Make SURE to get Jean De Florette first

  • it remembers me Oedipus from Sophokles the moment when he knows whom he is

  • This is a truly majestic pair of films (with Jean de Florette......but maybe people should not see the denoumente????

  • the climax of the best 2 films i have ever seen. I get everyone i can to watch them but sadly most of my friends find it boring. It it torturous watching Montand, he is incredible.

  • Yeah, Yves Montand's expression at the around the six minute mark is DEVASTATING. Even without subtitles here I could still remember the line from seeing this the first time inmy high school French class. "

    "Yes....it was born a hunchback."

    .

  • in french it is

yes he was born alive ... alive and ... hunchback

  • Read Marcel Pagnol's novels prior to watching all the adaptations... You'll have more fun.

  • maybe you can try to download it from a torrent ....

  • does anyone know where i can watch this movie on the internet?!?! we started it on the last day of the term in french class and i wanna know what happens!!!

  • One of the greatest scenes in history.

  • awesome movie, I consider the two movies some of my favorite movies.

  • Saw this movie in French class, it's amazing. Very sad at the end.

  • It's sad what happened to ugalin

  • At 6:06, I adore the look on his face when he realizes who he plotted against and murdered. This is possibly one of the best scenes in movie history.

  • Une scène magnifique.
