It's apparently an experimental prototype Strider they plan on using in future installments. its apparently more detailed, more agile (i.e. doesn't look like it'll keel over all the time) and more organic (i.e., it can gib just like the antlions, as you saw Dog rip its brain out)
they scripted this scene as a testbed, so it acts in a controlled manner.
Huh, interesting. I took a look at this particular model in GMod and the only real difference I could find was the presence of the cavity and hatch which contained the brain. If they mean behavioral differences, like it's fast and agile impailing attempts and it's sheer speed, then yes, I'd find Striders significantly more threatening and have all the more reason to find shelter.
