Just what what this country needs, more government sponsored obesity. Our kids are already some of the fattest on the planet because of the internet, and now the President wants (us) to foot the bill. What do you think kids and most adults with broadband are doing (trust me I have kids) reading the Wall Street? No most of them are sitting on their fat asses in chat rooms, Facebook, Gaming Sites, streaming bootleged movies, and yes looking at Porn Sites.
the internet would be getting dropped all day long. Servers will crash. Now we thought of being set for students only. but that would mean a nation wide password for students only. But once the password is out, everyone will beable to login on it. Then back to the bandwidth drain.
The closest way we could think is about how it is now.(around here). Anyne within so much of a municiple building, school, firestation, counrt house, police station ect... Can link up to the net.
I talked to some networkers today about it. The one thing that kept coming up beside paying for it was. How? The government pay each and every ISP for a segment of their bandwidth to dedicate to just government access or dedicated servers for free internet access.
Either way, people that think it all free will drop their ISP's to get the free net.ISP's will be in a loss having to charge the government even more. Then taxs go up more. Then massive bottleneck of everyone connecting at the same time.
Don't let government touch the internet our we're bound to loose our speech here too. It's bad enough on TV and Radio. You really think Obama's gonna "stick it to the man"? He's as establishment as it gets. You really think he'd get all that money from banks and businesses if they feared him?
what do children need on the internet? go talk to a librarian and ask how children find information.learning how to point and click is not enough.there are kids who do not know how to source info from books much less locate them. this is a valuable tool to lean. or are we going to remove books and everything will be electronic.sets up for nice contolled information acess, huh
First of all, the internet is the single largest source of information in the world. Second of all, it is important for anybody to be able to get information from the internet because of what you and I are doing right now, communication about the information we have to received, never before was this kind of mass forum aloud to take place. I love books, and it breaks my heart to see newspapers shutting down, but this is an amazing proposal that really could help our economy.
I think it is sad when people who voice honest concerns get nothing but greif from those who seem to be so out of touch with the real world. Guess the saying is true, "When people are dead wrong, they tend to do nothing but attack and show immaturity".
This truly is a sign that we picked the right guy! I just don't see McCain realizing that building out Internet infrastructure is key to strengthening our economy...he's still stuck in the 1990's and not today!
there is nothing to fear but fear itself...and letting your kids be taken care of by an electronic baby-sitter. if you are worried, teach them how to be safe or find someone who can.
I am sorry I think your comment shows the ignorance of most. Obviously you do not read, or watch the news. As for mine that was never an issue, but you need to take in the facts that this is a danger like it or not, and save the stupidity for your 15 secs of net fame for anouther time.
That's classic. I wasn't attacking you, but you come out swinging. Save your fear-mongering for yourself. Fear-based thinking is not the way to make ourselfves safe. It creates more problems.
As for the "dangers" of the internet: would you also like to remove the roads from the world because some children die there?
By the way, what the hell are you doing on the Internet if it's such a bad place? Go back to your knitting...
a classic non-care till it is your child then you'll cry and moan something should have been done. My point here was simple. It was hence you missed it entirely this, we need to make sure the net is safer for OUR children as we do with roads ( your example) or with all the other things in life we try to protect our children from.
Ok, your words are ceasing to make sense. By the way you express yourself, I can tell you aren't very intelligent. So, I'm sorry I picked on you for your stupidity. Feel free to get the last word in by commenting back if that will make you feel better, but I'm done here.
once again, it is up to the parents to teach your children how to sift information and make sure your sources are accurate. The internet is wonderful because as soon as your given information, three seconds later you can either back it up or refute it with other information. it's not about getting somebody to take care of our kids for us, is about allowing them to have access to all the knowledge they want, and teaching them to be smart enough to not believe the first thing they hear.
So you the kind that want the to be a grownup at age 6. The only thing they will learn is porn, downloading music, gaming, down loading game cheats and copy/paste homework.
Nice stereotype. Anyways, that is not my case. Instead of that bs you mentioned the internet somehow managed to make me crave for knowledge. The average kids in America will lose those traits once they gain more rights and see more purposes in life.
I'm saying that it can be and no that doesn't mean kids that don't use it get left behind. The ones that don't use it might be more likely though. Now why the hell would any "minors" give a damn about world issues when they have no representation and no right to do anything about it but complain with no one acknowledging. The last bit you said was funny.
jesus christ, obama! What are u gonna spend money on next, free gas for all Americans? This is ludicrous. Offer them easier access to college and shit to GET OUT OF POVERTY! A handup, not a handout. A handout still keeps them in poverty, even if they get access to some goods. This is dumb. Is Internet really that much a priority to subsidize it like this? I think not. Plus, most Internet companies offer it for pretty cheap. netzero has it for 10 bucks a month!! come on.
President-elect Obama did not say that he was going to make the Internet "free" to all Americans. He said that we need to adopt broadband, and there is no need to "subsidize" it. The technology exists to provide it to everyone for less than $10/month. What needs to happen is for the government to stop allowing Big Media companies to manipulate unused spectra. Let companies develop the UHF spectrum for broadband use instead of allowing Big Media lobbyists to control it. It's that simple.

everyman should be entitled to some free internet porn. the government could give every man and woman a FREE 3 Day Trial period.
Then if don't cancel in time you will be charged $39.99 a month.
The national debt should be paid within 8 months.

So you're saying the kids main education is now via the net and the ones without it get left behind.
or you somehow thing that a kid of the age in the video really give shit about the NWO and what is going on around them.
Just give them some games, hot pockets and a skateboard and they are happy campers.
